Crashed RC Plane Locator - Smart Tag vs Remote ID

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Testing out Sky ID, Spektrum's Remote ID module vs Samsung Smart Tag 2 being used as a plane locator. Not super surprising results but it was worth a test.

I was thinking that radio is big, then the camera panned over to your phone and I absolutely died laughing. 😂

Lol. It's a folding phone. Nice and big when you need it but small when you don't.

Lighter and easier maybe... But faster? Remote ID shows you on a map where your plane is. I've used beeper in the past and they work but you need to be relatively close to the plane to hear it and it's takes a bit for your ears to direction find a plane. They do work and work well. But looking on a map and walking directly to your plane is pretty damn easy. Now, I haven't tested remote id to it's limits but so far it's about the best plane finder I've seen. I've seen those direction finder systems where you have a transponder in your plane and you hold a device that beeps signal strength... Not so great, especially for the cost. But remote ID is very promising

@@all_rc No offense, but I've already had a bad experience with Remote ID... I was with a friend not too long ago who crashed their +$1.2k commercial cinematic drone with remote ID built into it, what was suppose to be a blessing became dread in 5 minutes and his massive drone was stolen near the side of a road ( just like your scenario ) and went dark a minute later. So YES, Remote ID is promising, but it's also problematic as well; If you can find your model on your smart device... So can other people with ill-intent using a similar drone tracking app. That drone was his bread and butter. And yes the beeper is FASTER, I can flip a toggle switch on my transmitter with my eyes locked in the direction of the crash and start walking / jogging; AND i can control when the beeper turns on. Where as you had to take your eyes off your model plane, pull out and fumble with your phone, look back up and guess the general direction of where you plane crashed and then start walking... plus the ID is always on from the moment you plug in a battery. That's about a Minute 30 seconds lead time I would of had over you using your fancy device. Simpler is always better, you can trust Remote ID all you like; I ain't putting that mobile data beacon in any model aircraft so someone else can take what isn't theirs and possibly get away with it... period.

I have a BETTER SOLUTION than BOTH of those HEAVY systems, it's easier, LIGHTER and 10x faster to locate your model plane / drone without a phone app. Ready, READY!?! . . . a LOST MODEL BEEPER!! Weighs 2g, emits a 90dB beeping tone that's programmed into the built-in MCU ( Micro Controller Unit ), and it can be EASILY used on traditional PWM receivers or FPV racing flight controllers bound to a separate channel with a switch to activate it. If you don't like to solder ( which is a necessary skill in this hobby EVERYONE should know how to do ), there are Brands that make units with Strobing LED diodes, built-in sensors that activate in a "crash", a tiny 1-cell lipo with a life-span of up to ~30 hours as well as the beeper in a 5 gram package. Simple is better my guy. Cool gadgets but it's over-kill both on time to setup / find your lost model and your wallet.

Lol, I mentioned that in the video. Would work real good on smaller, lighter models where weight is critical. Especially sub 250g. But for most airplanes I fly the remote id module is ideal. The weight isn't a factor. Buy one and put it in whatever plane you fly and you know instantly where your plane is. But yeah, i'd choose a beeper over Smart Tag any day. But the sky ID module is pretty damn good!
