There are a few other similarities, the team was disqualified temporarily on technicalities but several appeals made the committee overturn their decision. Their coach also was a U.S. Olympic team member but he had no medals and there was no cheating scandal associated with him. The real thing is actually much better as far as sportsmanship. Many nations helped them out providing spare equipment they could and showing the Olympic spirit. While they were underdogs they were cheered on by their fellow competitors rather than shunned and ridiculed as depicted.

IMO... What gets me is why they used the footage in the movie.... It's wasn't the same characters... The footage was real, and I imagine very personal to the team. While the movie, as a whole, was a comedy, the crash part was nothing but dramatic. Devon Harris, one of the actual bobsledders, said, "All of us enjoy the movie. All of us love it." They were still underdogs by being Jamaica’s first bobsled team and participating in a winter sport where traditionally countries with tropical climates don’t compete.

@@Simple1Jack hmm I'd have to disagree. Yes they were from a country that typically doesn't compete in that sport, however the movie portrayed them crashing and showing the strength and courage to still finish the run through pain and adversity. This was not the case. What I'm getting at is it created this metaphor that no matter how tough things seem and how out of place you are, you can do anything you put your mind to (finishing the run as a team with the sled). It didn't happen, they accepted defeat and had the safety crew push the sled home with their heads hanging. In essence they were the failures that the bob sled community said they were.
@Simple1Jack
3 жыл бұрын
@@Kontroll343 The movie definitely took liberties but it was ultimately all about having the chance to compete and represent their country.

All of us love it." For him, it accurately represented "the essence and spirit of the team." I suppose that's the most important thing about the movie.
What a great team though, they had a dream and achieved it and nobody can take that away from them.
I didn't hear them say "Cool Runnings!!!" at launch. THAT MOVIE WAS FALSE!
I nearly cried watching this. It looked absolutely terrible. They could have easily been killed, on camera, in front of millions watching! 🎵🎶"Jamaica, we got da bobsled team!"🎵🎶 Stuck in me head LOL 😂😆
Before the crash, the inexperienced Jamaican team did hell of a job to be on pace for 7th or 8th considering there were almost 30 countries competing.
Now after watching this, I wonder why Cool Runnings was made. There was no underdog story with them carrying the sled across the finish line. The movie built up respect through an idea of strength through a struggle. Who would've though Hollywood would lie to us.
@Simple1Jack

They were still underdogs by being Jamaica’s first bobsled team and participating in a winter sport where traditionally countries with tropical climates don’t compete.
@Kontroll343
3 жыл бұрын
@@Simple1Jack hmm I'd have to disagree. Yes they were from a country that typically doesn't compete in that sport, however the movie portrayed them crashing and showing the strength and courage to still finish the run through pain and adversity. This was not the case. What I'm getting at is it created this metaphor that no matter how tough things seem and how out of place you are, you can do anything you put your mind to (finishing the run as a team with the sled). It didn't happen, they accepted defeat and had the safety crew push the sled home with their heads hanging. In essence they were the failures that the bob sled community said they were.
@Simple1Jack
3 жыл бұрын
@@Kontroll343 The movie definitely took liberties but it was ultimately all about having the chance to compete and represent their country. As much as like to make light of this because of the film, this is just about the scariest thing the average viewer has ever had to watch at an olympics.
