Did he seriously crash at the exact moment he said he wants to be a better driver?

Mate, you're saying that the key learning was to "...be smoother!" Your key learning should have been to focus 100% on what you're doing, not talking to the camera and taking your eyes off the circuit.

Take your hands off the wheel before impact Mike. You can snap your wrists and that won't be pretty. You don't know what the limits are until you crash. Well Done! Keep getting more seat time, only way to improve!
couldnt write a script for this pure racing
Getting better is part of the journey honestly. I mean, its your car, Mike! Fulfill that dream!
That right there is the reason is why you should start your 'racing career' with a cheaper car. :)

Such as? What cheaper car offers proper race car feel, is as safe and allows you to join amateur racing events?

Caffeinated AJ By the time you’ve added a role cage, new tires and other racing stuff I doubt it’ll be cheaper. Is that series in the UK though?
Aw, man, my stomach dropped when you spun out, Mike. I'm glad you had the v-box thing and a training day, though. It's funny how different spinning out and hitting a barrier is in a computer game vs. real life. In a game, it's a minor annoyance or no big deal; in real life, that's possible injuries and hundreds or thousands of dollars in repairs... I may not understand all the car/racing terms, but I eagerly await the next episode of this!
My first weekend, I spun in qualifying and got t boned hard. We didn't get out racing for two years. These are hard lessons but if they don't break you, they make you!!! :)
Happens to the best, just keep trying and learning.

The amount of effort that goes into every part of this is off the charts. Fingers crossed it remains free.
I feel your pain Mike, I got a stone chip on my 3 week old Mustang on Sunday and I wanted to cry 😄. I'm loving the series and I hope the conclusion is you looking happy after some competitive racing. Keep going man! Keep going!
Can't believe the Xbox Outside guy knows how to wrestle with a stick not just the controllers. We all make mistakes, good for him to have a bigger set of balls.
Oxbox fans where u at
Really what you don't want when you start racing. But I'm glad you're back on track and making good progress. Yea VBOX is a very handy tool. Best of luck Mike ! Great series +Carfection. Even though I can't afford any real racing, It's great to watch.
Carfection people are so nice compared to the rest of KZread
Distracted driving. Mabey we can all learn from this. Thanks for posting.
Maybe you shouldn’t be talking to a camera while driving on track for the first time...

He is literally doing a series on starting to drive, do you think he does anything the producers do not tell him to?
Awesome video. Keep it up man, im rooting for you! Can't wait for the next episode
Maybe get a cheap mx5 to learn in first......they are great cars to learn track driving on.
Oooops....!!! Maybe concentrating on talking and got caught out. Hard luck!
Looking forward to seeing new chapters from this epic journey. Well done team
Everybody: Talking about the crash. Me: Castle Coom
Learning is learning, keep it up great video!
So my advice: Get a simulator and something like Iracing or assetto corsa and get a lot of seat time in a variety of cars/tracks. It will help give you an understanding of the weight transfer over different crests bumps, etc and it's a hell of a lot cheaper to make mistakes with. Don't lose confidence! Seriously everybody makes mistakes! Trying to film and talk to camera in first session on track must've been overwhelming. If you look over your data, use simulators to learn the basics of handling, braking (and also gearbox use, I saw from one of the on boards at Blyton you locked the rears with no rev match), and then it's just a matter of gaining real life experience in your car getting to know it's quirks and how to set it up best. Good luck
Gutted for you with the bump but well done getting back in there! Great series by the way.
I love these kind of videos
Love this series
Fantastically excellent video from a fellow Bongart club member - it took a lot to post process - thanks a LOT for sharing your experience!!
If you’re going to race cars, you’re going to crash cars! Just learn from it and keep improving
Keep these coming!
That's the outside xbox dude! Go Mike!
I spent a day at Castle Combe driving the G40 under the constant scrutiny of a race instructor. As a complete novice the car felt incredibly 'raw' but hugely rewarding too. I managed not to crash and felt over the course of the day I had improved significantly. I asked the instructor to take me for 5-6 hot laps at the end of the day and was utterly amazed at how this guy was ringing the car's neck (and by comparison how rubbish I was). He had the car absolutely on the limit the whole time and the smell of tyres and brakes filled the cabin. Thrilling is all I can say!
Oh my Goodness - carry on regardless Mike
Beginning of the video gives me Gran Turismo 4 vibes
Jesus that rear end went like nothing else at what looked like moderate pace. Scary stuff.
Loving the sense of humour
Man it felt bad when his car spin out on the corner . Supporting u till end.
Good luck man!
good on ya mate.
All I’m going to say is well done for getting yourself out there and doing what you enjoy. I’ve never tried racing myself but I would LOVE to. Never let crashes/ incidents put you off, it can make you a better driver knowing where you went wrong.
Could you tell us how much did it cost to repair your car ? Love these episode btw, can't wait for the next one
I mean this is Mike were talking about I'm just surprised that there were no explosions
Bro his last words were I know I'm not a great driver but I want to be better. "At that moment he knew he FUCKED UP!"
Welcome to the club
This video is comedy gold, seriously that is funny🤣
Go on mike,live the dream.
Right when you said "I know I'm not a amazing driver". ROFL!!
OH NOOOOOOOO
Reminds me of what I was told on my first time competing at Castle Combe. "if you lift on Avon Rise you will hear two things. The first is the sound of physics laughing at you...the second is the accident". Physics had a chuckle at 1:28 and was pissing itself at 1:30. Rough way to learn, but the barriers at that corner have a history of trashing cars
And that kids, is why you focus when you drive. Guy keeps focusing on making a better video than what he says about being a better driver. To be fair, this is for a Carfection series so I really can't blame him for acting that way.
1:31 at this exact second, he should be hitting break as hard as he can to avoid hitting the barrier.
Needs more racing footage. I want to see in car shots over multiple laps to see a good lap vs a bad one
It happens, no problem.
Would you run a season's racing in the G40 for under 5-figures. I fear not.
6:03 is he shifting without heel-toe? The car seemed to squirm uncomfortably when he downshifted there
Never raced and then you try to chat to the camera. Genious!
Avon Rise claims another victim.

As soon as he said Castle Combe I knew it would be that corner!
I dont know much about this car, but it kinda reminds me of an mx-5 ND with a hard top 🤔
That's unlucky but hopefully will not be to expensive to repair. Wish you better luck next time.
One day i will understand people that go to trackdays without helmet and gloves... especially if they race that car too.... the feeling between helmet and gloves and none is so much different
Would be interesting to know how much the repairs cost, relevant to becoming a racing driver if your paying yourself!
I think the key thing for you to learn from that incident is to always wear a helmet and HANS every time you go on track, particularly in a fully caged race car.
Tbh 24h of LeMons or something significantly cheaper or even just basic trackdays might be a better way to learn a car safely :p Just my opinion lol!
...now it’s yours and it’s not pristine - get out there and get racing again!!
What track is that? Can I find it in Project Cars 2? 😁
Those panel gaps are shocking to say the least. You should start racing with a FR Honda.
So, the car came with 1 year of ginetta looking after it. did they repair everything for the initial cost or did he have to shell out cash for the repairs? 35k for basically a miata is kinda pricey. wonder how far ginettas help goes.
Will this fit in my Honda?
Is that the guy from outside xbox!

@@PBowyer123 My god dont buy such a nice car when your starting out. You want something cheap so that you can learn and make mistakes. Not this.
Gotta put in lots of track days if you want to improve
Start in a kart. The mistakes are far less costly.
I hope they line up the body panels better when they repair it than they did from the factory. Yikes.
How on earth did you manage that in a 135hp car... I'm legitimately worried to see where this series goes.
Someone get this man on a driving simulator (assetto crosa / iracing) and have him set consistant laps, before even letting him on track #FacePalm. there is a lot to learn, weight transfer, lift off over steer, braking oversteer, acceleration understeer etc etc
How is it road legal if it has no ABS?
Maybe just having the 2 hands on the steering wheel would help?
Damn, first day. 😛 Try learning to race drive with cheaper cars and move yourself up the ranks
When I was at castle Combe May Day Madness (I believe in 2017) there were many experienced drivers spinning on the crest. It was about the only place people actually spun/crashed. There was a white formula Ford car that spun onto the inside, and in a separate race a civic spun into another into the inside. Although, in the peugeot races a grey peugeot lost it and crashed into the same wall you did, just slightly later on, and unluckily head on. Pretty sure the car was totalled. There’s a video somewhere and if you look hard enough you can see me, my friend and both our dads in the background. kzread.info/dash/bejne/k2t4w8GsetPXkrg.html
It seems to have become a trend to film videos on track with no helmets. I just don’t get the logic or how it can be allowed ?
7:11 is that a porsche 911 right there
Press X to WIN ?
That's fucked up. I guess is better to crash while practicing than on race day... Keep up the good job and whenever you feel that panic sensations, drop one gear and grab your balls hard dude.👊
sorry for laughing. You can't push the limit if you never find the limit though.
Must..bite..toungue.. NO NO i cant do it.. id be scared that you was on a Castle combe action day let alone in an actual race :o
He looks like young Jacques Villeneuve :P
Mmm I need one of those ginetta they're schmexy
Sorry mate to see this, but it was to be expected,.... hands - focus on the track was all missing and that is a fatal mix that resulted in your crash.... There is nothing else to explain....about grip and braking... of course those are importend but all all fed by the focus and concentration of the driver I hope you are OK and back on the track.... That is how we all learn
Point a GoPro at him and suddenly he's Jeremy Clarkson. Ouch, expensive arrogance.
Why the hell wasn't he wearing a helmet? He got extremely lucky, especially since the car had a roll cage.
Ohhhh fuck!
Well.. that was discouraging.
If you're finding 8 seconds in a lap between sessions, then analyzing your data is a bit of a fools errand. Data analysis can be useful as a learning tool, but what this guy really needs is a small reality check. If you're new to racing, then have realistic expectations. No one walks into this sport with any skills to improve on, because they have yet to develop any skills. Saying things like "I know I'm not an amazing driver" is doublespeak for "I might not be the best, but I'm not bad either". Park the car, go buy a go kart (which is quicker and harder to drive anyway), find some people who know what they're doing, and run with them. You'll learn more, have more fun, spend less money, and become a better driver.
Wish I had the money in his wallet to repair my track car/daily as fast as he did his & I just got front fender bender
WOW! as soon as peps don't have have ABS - Traction control - BOOM ! Would have been better with a MX5 or something - slow car -fast = Cheaper.
broooooooo....
Looks like a z4 coupe
where's the part where he crashes?
