Craps Money Management: At the table, work the rail like a pro

Ойын-сауық

A surprising amount of money "leaks" from your table simply because you're not in full control of the chips in your rail and don't have an accurate view of how much you've actually got.
Learning how to properly cycle your bankroll to the table and into your profits, keeping close, accurate, and constant tabs on the status of your money is essential to knowing when to walk, and when to strike.
Following a few simple guidelines will really help you to stay on top of your stacks.
Break up the chips in your rail into 4 Quadrants:
1: Bankroll
2: Money to use (only) on the active shooter
3. Profits
4. Random (tips, vids, etc)
Within each quadrant, use some kind of separator to visually break things up. For example, if you're planning to play 10 shooters, separate your bankroll into 10 segments. Insert a different colored chip (white, perhaps) or an acrylic separator between each segment. This will make it easy for you to see quickly how many shooters you are to play on.
In your profits, do the same thing, but instead of separating by shooter amount as you did in the bankroll quadrant, separate your profits into groups of chips you can color up with. This makes doing the math a lot easier.
Consistently bring your money for each shooter to the #2 quadrant and bet/receive from there. After each shooter, re-evaluate your rack, and build your bankroll back to it's starting level if you can, separate out your profits and leave a winner!
Remember that "Knowledge is Power" ... use your chips and the rail to give you good information about how you're doing with regards to your starting bankroll, # shooters you can play on, and your profits.

I started with quarters, too. But the lammers (especially the new ones) are better. They're thicker and easier to manage. Some casinos don't allow them, so then I go old school with the coins!

It's a lesson hard learned, that's for sure. Craps is such an emotional game. It's so easy be "on a run" and toss out horns and hardways and 5-5-5 on the ATS. Before you know it, a 20 shot hand becomes almost a push and you can't figure out why.

Excellent video and explanation of keeping track of your bankroll. I'm fairly new to Craps and tried to manage my chips in the rack while the game was going on and it seemed I spent more time counting my chips in the rack than watching what was happening on the table. Before your video I was separating my chips in denominations with $1 chips so I could at least count quickly how much bankroll I had at the moment. The quadrant explanation makes so much sense and it was good to see how the chips were separated and for what use in each quadrant. Thanks!

That's great to hear. I used to use dollar chips as well, but as I got older, I couldn't always tell them apart with the side decorations often looking the same. This is very helpful, practical and easy to use. I currently use dollar chips as separators , but I just ordered a pack of lammers since I oftentimes find myself pulling out the dollar chips to make bets or tips. I like the fact that the betting chip quadrant is on the left and it will naturally force me to handle the chips with my left hand and keep my right hand free to just handle the dice when I am the shooter. When a box number is rolled I rotate the corresponding chip up and down in the rack to remind me when to press or collect. I use a horizontal and vertical position for my profit bankroll. Thanks for the video. Great! What's happening is John wants to be comfortable/vision of bankroll throughout his gambling session. People usually say 10-20 units of table minimum or shooter minimum in John's case. Ideally (big if in reality) you would like to maintain that leverage from the 1st hand to close to end. All other information are extra/optional. Also if you are very near to end your gambling session or lets say just couple more shooters left before you want to take a break you can stop your money management work. Lol! No real value at that time. But thanks for the idea again and the concept behind it!!

I generally go with a planned $ per shooter, and I never pull from bankroll during a hand. So what I do is let each hand resolve itself (point made or 7) and then do a quick eval. If my bankroll was depleted, I see immediately if I can replenish it to get back to square. There are times, where, say, I'm down a full shooter and the person rolling is crushing it and I'm really up, what I'll do is refill bankroll right away, and then see where I am. If I'm still in that front rack with a full shooter, I go pretty hard, because that's all profit and he's still going. There are times where that is > 20%. I will almost always pull that aside, and say "I have a full bankroll, I have a full 20% (goal reached), and now all of this is what I'm pegging them on" and then I will go double-tap into a lux for as long as it takes, knowing I'm solid.

Generally have a one day session. If Im way up I may layover for a second day....Generally buy in for 2K to 2500 most tables in my area are $15 mins......I tip play for dealer alot, as well as make Horn or CE bets on comeout and cover any Even point on Hardwy for 5..maybe add $1 on each hard for dealer....Generally start with lightside min strategies inside...collect one or two then press and expand if shooter is apparently hot....how would you approach that kind of rack management to start?

  • @ProCraps

    @ProCraps

    2 жыл бұрын

The first thing I'd do is divide the rack into exactly what I need (and will stick to) for each shooter. If that means: $6 inside for the dealers $4 Horn $5 Hardway $15 Don't Pass $66 Inside That means $96 per shooter. I'd divide my rack into 20 slots of $100 with a $2000 buy-in. Now, you get to go for it 20 times Don't dip back in for more during a shooter's run. If they knock you off the don't, then let them come out and work your remaining place bets. Be disciplined, if that's the way you're playing it. Where folks get sideways is when they lose a bet and dig right back in and replace or chase it ... unless you're playing a ladder or a 3 point molly, you should never go back to your bankroll stack unless there's a new shooter coming out. Just my $.02

What is a good bankroll to take with you

  • @ProCraps

For me, I have a separate bank account where I put money that I'm willing to gamble with (lose) that's separate from my normal accounts to pay bills with. From that account, I take up to (but no more than) 10% with me to the casino. With that, I decide what strategy best fits the bankroll that I'm bringing. There have been times where that 10% $200, and times where that was $1000. And I play differently with each bankroll, because the bankroll dictates how aggressive you can be.

Are your acrylic spacers clear or are they now painted black?

I commissioned new ones from Spinettis Gaming that have my logo on them. They're black and white and have nice rounded edges. But the clear ones from Amazon are excellent

Looking forward to that! I’ve planning on re filming this one. It was the first video I ever made. Like the message but cringe when I watch it!

Why do you have Big 6 and 8 on your layout?

That’s my old green layout. It’s a generic one that I bought a couple of years ago on Amazon. My new layout is custom and does not have that net on it

Why do you make bets for the dealers?

  • @ProCraps

    @ProCraps

Dealers, like waitstaff, make only minimum wage and depend on Tips for the majority of their salary. They provide a service and I appreciate the skill it takes to do it well, as well as the thick skin you have to have to survive in a customer facing role like that. I worked for tips in restaurants most of my younger life, so I know what it's like, and therefore I set aside a portion of my entertainment money for the night for them.

@@ProCraps Wouldn't it make sense to simply give them the tip and tell them to put it in their toke box?

  • @ProCraps

@@jimklemens5018 I have debated this over and over. The short answer is an absolute YES. You want to make sure they drop the tip. But they also love the game and I find that enrolling them in the action helps them be a part of things and makes things generally more fun. I find that lately, I bet for them only when I shoot, and only a small amount that I can press them if we're winning ... so that I have a guaranteed toke for them at the end. I know people that pre-tip. But I do like to base it somewhat on their level of service as well.

@@ProCraps Have you considered giving them $5 and telling them to drop it in their toke box and also putting them up for $4 inside or $6 across?

@@jimklemens5018 I generally bet $4 inside for them, player control, and have them collect first, then press-collect-press-collect. If they don't get to $5 collected, I drop them the nickel (so it costs me more) ... I have a couple of great friends that deal. Let me pose the question directly.
