2:03 I don’t really think you can actually hold a door open using traffic cones they are pretty light. This landlord is so dumb as he hasn’t used any logic into this sign. And if he has a problem with homeless druggies then why can’t he make this building a bit more secure

Problem may be because some of the idiots who live there let the druggies in, the caretaker must be trying to do a thankless job and needs more support from the housing officer.

@@keith800 Well he's doing it in an utterly disgusting way.
The content over the last 2 months has been amazing . Please keep going with this series.
One place I wouldn't recommend is Grotty Chatham if you hate disturbing old abandoned places (Although feels nostalgic?) great video!
For those Schindler smart elevators, yeah they could’ve just put in a sump pump…
Even though i was laughing at several points, the lift moving so slowly that you couldnt feel it made me laugh even more

Those signs are utterly disgusting. Also, "resisents". I like that. You find one lift that works, and they've messed it up.
What an absolute state for a relatively new building

IME, most apartment blocks built in the last decade - and I've lived in a lot of them - have some fairly serious issues. They're not built to last, and tend to be maintained to the minimum standard. There are still some really nice ones out there - Warwick managed a solid 10/10 complex I lived on a few years back (although that had its own serious cladding issues) - but most "modern" blocks do have issues with plumbing, security, lifts, cleaning or *insert non-structural issue here*. I'd wager that most of the stuff that's gone up in the last decade will be demolished way before its lease is up.

One thing I don't really understand is the benefits of owning a lease. I can understand the advantage of owning a freehold, and I can see the advantages of renting on a monthly basis. But to me owning a lease seems to be the worst of both worlds. A lease often costs not much less than the equivalent freehold, so not much cost saving. You still have to pay a maintainer fee, and depending on the contract this can sometimes be a bit of a con, and can sometimes be open ended (for example the residents are forced to pay the cost of the cladding being replaced). Then there will be loads of conditions and rules set on the lease. Freehold advantage - Its yours to do whatever you want with. Freehold disadvantage - If lots of maintenance is needed you have to pay the entire thing yourself. Expensive to buy. Renting advantage - Flexible if you like to move area often. You don't get hit with a bill if maintance is needed. Renting disadvantage - Rent is expensive. You are tied down to the landlords rules. You can be kicked out. Lease advantage - I can't see any other than it is harder to be kicked out. Lease disadvantage - Expensive to buy. Maintance bills may suddenly be put on you. You are tied down to the landlords rules. Leasing seems to be the worst option. Am I missing something here?

I worry about the actual structure of many of these buildings. Looking at the new buildings going up in London there is little redundant strength in the design. If this is combined with the neglect seen here we will be looking at possible collapses in the future. It's sad for the younger generation who can only afford a lease in such a place.

@@benolifts No, you’re right. I bought a lease flat a couple years back purely because I was sick of private landlords, and the flat was cheap. But now that better renting options exist such as Quintain etc, I’ve sold up and started renting again.
Great video. Maybe you could do a video on the top 20 metro/commuter rail systems that you haven’t been to? I’d like to see Sydney on there as we have our really old V set and K set trains down here. The V sets are over 50 years old! Both trains have some awesome old Camshaft and chopper motors and can go up to 115kph. Then you have the Tangaras, an awesome old series of trains that have tons of different refurb variants sprinkled throughout the system kinda like Riga.
The worst kind of landlords are the investor types that buy up old houses and milk them. They typically buy them because of the low interest rates, and want to maximise their property in a run down neighborhood for super high rent prices for the unlucky tenants that have no other option.
I think you should definitely keep going on with these videos, Maybe someone of power could see them and realise some of the horrid state people are living in

why dont you revisit the 2012 houses and see what changed
You should include Antrim in your next episode. Here is why: 1. Dangerous estates such as Stiles, Springfarm and Rathenraw. 2. Dead shopping centres. 3. Loyalist sectarianism and naked bigotry. 4. Many, many more...

Right this is odd, straight after I seen this video with the Schindler Smarts broken, I get stuck in one. On my channel.
2:09 your supposed to rely on a fire alarm system for that
I honestly hope that the person who thought that grenfell was set on fire by a door being left open and thought of the know that says that the building will end up in the situation that they thought happened has wet socks for the rest of their lives so they suffer
Why am I watching this at 4:30 am? 😂
That slumlord building is the sorta place some clued up investor would snap up, make nicer to live, increase the rent, evict the pigeons and do alright. How much money to fix those non working lifts though?
Damn that was a lot of piss in the shaft...eeewwww😂
So we presume that the landlord's shittiness is at play in regards to the slow lift speed as well -- but why would management intentionally slow the lift speed down like that? (Unless you're presuming that the slow speed is due to it being in such disrepair?)
I guess, being generous, that they were referring to the risk of leaving fire doors open during a fire when pointing out Grenfell? Still tasteless, but at least explainable?
what was the sound of the d series maconic at the end of the video
Imagine if the landlord of this building commented..
Definitly wouldn't want to live in those places described in this video.
Will this building get refurbished or demolished?
Wow... this landlord does not like Grenfell Tower... for... some reason... I guess...
I don’t mind the sign, at least it is straight forward and even the dumbest renter can understand why it is important to keep the door closed
Where i live there were perfet schindler miconics
7:50 why does the voice sound a lot like Celia Drummond, voice of the Northern and Jubilee lines and former voice of South Western Railway (SWR)

@@matthewsmith2787 There are quite a few ways to do so, yes. To be fair, I fully agree with you; those fire doors should be shut at all times.
I do know that Basildon is rubbish. Even when living in areas where there are lots of trouble around. Southend is kind of ok.
there are so many crappy places where I live
This series needs a continuation
Here's a question, if you were the landlord of this building, what would you do?
Crap places to live just go to Skelmersdale and the town is completely crap
Those signs were probably put up by other fed up tenants. Not the landlord.
Should have talked to Warwick
*residents 1:53
I wonder if the landlord is dismissive As well
A building is as only as good as the residents that live there ! , unfortunately a apathetic anti social few let the place down and spoil the environment for everyone else , I pity the poor caretaker who has to try to keep the place nice for everyone,
Your not really allowed to put props to hold fire door's open as if there's a fire it can spread or you could trip over them !!!!
