Crank No Start and Wiring Woes 1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ

Saints,
Just the age old question of what is turning my Jeep Cherokee off and not letting it restart, well to render the video useless it was the Crankshaft Position Sensor, but along the way I go through a lot of wiring problems that are worth noting and checking on your own rig. The process of going through all the steps may help you figure out what is wrong with your Jeep if it is having similar issues. So it is documented pretty well how I went down the rabbit trail to find my Crankshaft Position Sensor was wack. Biggest confirmation is ohm testing them off the vehicle. Range should be 100-250 Ohm, mine was at 500 Ohm, new one was at 155 Ohm. Jeep has been running smooth since.
Hope this helps,
God Bless,
Yourfriendstchris

Went through all these same issues, bought a brand new crank sensor a cheap one for $40 turns out it lasted 3 weeks and went bad. Then bought a Mopar one for like $120 and fixed.

Helpful video. I had the problem that my '95 XJ would die on hot days and wouldn't restart for about 30 minutes. After finding that it was losing spark I purchased a cheap Chinese CPS off eBay for $20 Aus. That did the same thing but only after 3 km! Decided to buy a Goss brand CPS for $170 (probably same quality as the 'Standard' brand you used) which worked and is now running fine. Access to the CPS is difficult. From the top was impossible, from below I used several 3/8" socket extensions totalling 250mm and a wobble joint with a wrap of duct tape to hold it out. When reinstalling tape the bolt into the socket so it doesn't fall out until the threads have started. I reckon I could swap one in 30 minutes now.

Glad to help! As long as you got a year specific part for that 95, You should be good to go for a while, they are just a slightly different part for the 91-96.

FYI supposedly in 2023 Chrysler pulled the plug on manufactured Mopar Made sensors for the Jeep Cherokee XJ, get what you need now, and don't be left out if you want a Mopar one. Still Running strong as of 3-7-2024, 255k miles.

Hope this helped, If you can afford it, many people recommend getting a new Mopar made sensor, l am leaning towards swapping mine out with one of those, from the O'rielly branded one, had a friend go through several of them from O'rielly, and finally got a Mopar one and it worked fine.

For the 97-01 I believe it is the MOP-56027866AC. Confirm your year for correct fitment, the 91-96 use a slightly different sensor, and before that another different sensor if I'm not mistaken. Just confirm that, sorry for the late response, went car shopping yesterday for the wife's new whip.

The fuel pressure is dropping because the one way return valve is failing. It’s no big deal, mine has been like that for 3 years 😂

Hi, thank for the knowledge. So the crank position sensor was the problem, correct?

Yes! It was my problem, but if I was to tell anyone what to do, I would say check it all like I did, and patch everything up that is starting to show it's age, that way you know it is solid all the way around. Buy a quality part and test it's resistance in store before you buy it.

My camshaft pickup coil, what later is replaced by the Camshaft Position Sensor, is still straight wired without the OEM style plug I snagged at the pick and pull, mainly because my OEM pickup coil is still working fine, I may solder splice them together here soon and call it a day, until it potentially fails, I may just buy a new to have it on hand for the day I need it.

I would look into the Camshaft Position or Pick Up sensor. If I'm not mistaken, that tells them when to fire, because it sees the timing of the the valves and relays the info to the computer when to spray fuel.
