CRANBERRY WILDERNESS - NORTH SOUTH LOOP - HAMMOCK CAMPING IN THE RAIN

Ойын-сауық

There was a last minute change on our trip. We decided to go to the Cranberry Wilderness. A section that we knew nothing about, with rain showers in the forecast. Yea buddy this was a fun trip. Got soaked from head to toe everyday. But you still have to love the outdoors, even in the rain.

    Hey Jason! Great to see you and Jeramiah out hiking in the Cranberry Wilderness. The view on top of the waterfall was so beautiful. Crazy to see how much rain you guys got. Good thing you have rain gear ready to go. The pulled pork dinner looked so yummy. The river was so pretty to see. We bet you had some cold wet feet after the river crossing. LOL.. Glad you got some sun for a few mins. Taco night Yum! Glad to see you guys had a nice trip! Great video and love you to the moon! Have a great week! 🌛💖🌛

    @@BackpackingWithJason well, that was the most difficult hike I've ever done. The rain was hangry butt no big deal. The mud was not so much mud as the trail was a series of swamps. The bushwack is what killed me. I added 3 miles bushwacking. Between the trail having little maintenance, the trail disappearing at times and ObX GPS trail didn't always match reality. I need to give it 5 out of 5.

    Hammock camping in the rain is better than in a tent. You are not on the wet ground and not stuck inside a tent - you can hang out under your tarp. If I bring a chair along, I string up the tarp and hang out with the chair and not put the hammock up until an hour or so before I call it quits so that the quilts have time to fluff. If I have the synthetic quilts with me, I wait until just before bed to set up the hammock.

    Weather is weather, just take it as it comes! Do you think the UQ protector makes a big difference in keeping moisture away?

  • @BackpackingWithJason

    @BackpackingWithJason

    I do think it makes a big difference. It weighs nothing and it helps with the Dew and if it’s a really windy night with a lot of heavy rain. And for some reason it helps keep my under quilt from moving around at night. I highly recommend it on certain occasions.

    @@BackpackingWithJason when you're in the northeast and it rains frequently enough any added protection against moisture that works is worth any added weight. I used to avoid camping in the rain but am learning it was just because I never had the right gear!

    Wow, what an adventure! Can I ask a question about hammocks? The only time I tried camping with one, I couldn't sleep. I got the laying diagonal part fine, and was pretty comfortably, except.... the "wall" of material/fabric on the sides kept flopping onto my face, which it made it impossible to sleep. I wanted to roll the sides down and tie them off somehow, but couldn't figure out how to do that. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

  • @BackpackingWithJason

    @BackpackingWithJason

    There are a lot of different style hammocks. A lot of them have pull outs to keep the material off of your face. I never have any problems in my Dream Hammock. I’m 5’10” and I have an 11’ hammock and I got it really wide. I can sleep on my side and it’s extremely comfortable. I hope this helps out. Thanks for watching Glenn and have a fun day
