Craigs Hut - The Easy Way
Video showing the easy way to get to Craigs Hut, where the 2WD parking area is if you don't have a 4WD as well as the last 3km section that is 4WD/AWD.
Hope this helps some of you plan trips in the area and visit this iconic location!

I'm yet to explore Craig's Hut in a couple of weeks. I may only trek by foot to there from that road junction where the track starts. I only have a 2-wheel drive vehicle. This time of the season should be ok but I need to vigilante of wet weather. Nice scenery there.

@@OffTheBeatenPathAus It was a great run down through Woods Point, although, it was on a Sunday, and it was like a Ghost Town, We spent an hour just relaxing and looking around, and only seen one person. Then headed off to Matlock, the roads were not to bad from Matlock, and must be maintained well, then on to Warburton and home.
We recently drove up to the parking area, for the hiking track, in a VF Commodore wagon without issue. We certainly wouldn't have had a hope in hell of making it up the Clear Hills Track. The hike in was nice and not hard at all.

Nice video. Got myself a Jeep Trailhawk so am contemplating Craig’s Hut as first outing. I would say I have the ground clearance no problem but that last bit of track has me worried on width . Don’t really want to scrape the panels on the way through any overhanging scrub.
@OffTheBeatenPathAus
4 ай бұрын
You'll be fine, it's wider than it looks. When you say Trailhawk, that's the off-road version of the Cherokee right? Reasonably capable for what they are, don't think you'll have any issues on this track.

@@OffTheBeatenPathAus Thanks. Yes, I have the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Trailhawk version is the off road version. The Grand Cherokee is wider than the smaller Cherokee. Sorry for confusion.

I’ve done the 4WD section up to Craig’s Hut in a stock Kluger and did it easily. Just take the erosion humps on an angle and slowly to avoid scraping the exhaust.

@OffTheBeatenPathAus
5 ай бұрын
Yeah you'd be fine taking an Xtrail this way to craigs hut. Honestly all you need is a bit of clearance over some of the humps. Last drove this a couple of months ago and it was in even better condition than this video.
Awesome video! What do you think the track would be like around mid-late june? I have a subaru XV AWD, do you think that would be capable?
@OffTheBeatenPathAus
Жыл бұрын
Two problems. The track is seasonally closed after the June long weekend, so won't be open to anyone at that time. Second problem, I don't think an XV on stock size tyres has enough rampover for some of the humps on this track. you 'might' make it but you might end up like the Ranger on the thumbnail of one of my watagans videos....
Hi great video. Just wondering what type of camera you used to film this video.

@OffTheBeatenPathAus

Glad you enjoyed it. When you say Campervan? What are we talking about? You'd need 4wd and decent clearance (ramp over) get over some of the humps - this is where campervans typically don't do well as they're long wheelbase, reducing the rampover.
Big Deal, it's Definitely a overrated place nothing special..
