Great video, very good explanations. My Craftsman lawn tractor worked great on my front lawn, then would not restart for the back yard only crank. I tapped on the fuel cut off solenoid and it fired right up! Many hours on this lawn tractor.

Good video. A leaking head gas may explain why the oil is so dark because gas is contaminating it

My fuel shut off solenoid was actually stuck. Removed and exercised the plunger, reinstalled and started right up!. I have ordered a new one. Excellent video.

@@JohnsonsSmallEngines Yeah man! So, I changed out the solenoid, spark plug, checked the battery, all seems good. Compression seems good. I sprayed some starter fluid into the carb as I was cranking it and it seemed like it was just spitting it back out, like maybe it wasn't getting into the carb but I don't know why this would be. I took off the gas line to the carb and everything seemed fine?

If you sprayed starting fluid down throat of the carburetor and the engine did not fire? You may have no spark going to the spark plug? Did you check spark with a spark tester? to see if the ignition coil is OK.

@@JohnsonsSmallEngines No, I don't have a spark tester yet, but I did replace the spark plug with a brand new one so I assume it's not the issue. But obviously, I don't actually know what the issue is so I could be wrong. Ha!

It doesn’t matter if you put a new spark plug. If your ignition coil has failed, the spark plug will not spark. You need to check the ignition coil with a spark tester.

Couldn’t get my craftsman to start, turns out it’s because the battery wasn’t connected well. Thanks for this video, helped me out a lot!

I have the same DLS 3500 I bought new in 2007 but it does not have the pedal on the right floor board like yours does. Mine is all manual. Your vids have helped diagnose several problems and it now runs like new. Thanks.

Great video walk through thank you! So what could possibly be wrong if I've gone through all of these steps but it still won't start? (engine turns over but won't start). I've checked everything I can think of (fuel is flowing from tank, fuel pump is sending gas to solenoid, solenoid is working properly, engine has compression, new spark plug, both valves are opening and closing freely.) Engine cranks fine but will not fire (with the exception of an occaisional backfire). What else could be wrong?

Impossible to diagnose without seeing the machine. I’m guessing, if you have a Briggs and Stratton single cylinder engine possible sheared flywheel key or possible valve seat came out of head.

@@JohnsonsSmallEngines Thanks... "sheared flywheel key" was actually the one last thing on my list to check (haven't checked it yet but plan on doing that today). If that proves not the problem, then I guess maybe it's just time to retire this 20 year old craftsman mower.

It could be many things. Dead battery. Bad connections to the battery. Blown fuse. Blades in the on position. Bad safety switch.

I really enjoyed your video. Very informative! Where did you get the spark plug boot puller?

Good video. I have a craftsman LTS2000 run’s for 5min then shuts off. Starts up after it cools. Any suggestions

(1)When it shuts down, check spark. If it does not have it. You have a bad coil. Yes, they can cool down and the spark can come back. (2) check to make sure your gas cap vent is clean (3)If you have a electric fuel shut off solenoid, it may be intermittently failing. (4)debris in fuel tank? clogging inlet to fuel line after running for a while. Start with the (1) and work your way through. Let me know when you find out what the issue is.

I have 18 yr. old Craftsman 17.5 HP Electric Start 6 Speed Transaxel, NO Problems at all, until now, I tried to crank it and a loud thump was under the hood , put New Battery , New Solenoid, No action of any kind , can you help me , no one talks about the Electric start , If I have to buy another one , which Craftsman compares to mine , Im 81 yrs old , just need a good mower to mow front and back yard I can put my Bagger on , Thank You

OK I have the same 2007 craftsman DLS 3500 New spark plug but had spark brand new carburetor took the solenoid off the bottom of the bowl have plenty of brand-new gas new fuel line filter, new oil and filter, air filter but will not start of a brand new battery? Any idea lol

The only thing that is left for a engine that will not start would be compression, (Valves). check out this video and you can fast forward it to four minutes and 20 seconds. kzread.info/dash/bejne/i2icucmvZbKriaw.html. You may have one valve giving you a issue.

Yes I didn’t say that in my response I spun the motor and it became difficult then easy. Ok so the coil and around the top of the motor was rusted how close does the coil have to sit away from the motor or does that matter?

@@marksullivan5793 you can still have compression if you have a valve issue. Pull off the valve cover and check valves. Tolerance of the coil is around 15 thousandths air gap

I just got my hands on a dlt 3000 with a 25hp b&s twin v. I just bought a new battery and I’m not getting any crank, any ideas?

Check fuse, Make sure the emergency break is down make sure the seats which is plugged in. Make sure the PTO is not on and if all else fails it’s most likely a safety switch that has failed.

Also, make sure your battery cables terminals are clean and bolted tightly to battery. Make sure the battery is a good battery?

The spark plug for the engine in this video is a Champion RC12YC.

Could be bad gas people need to use non-ethanol gas in a lawn mowers then you would have the problem with the carburetors put some seafood in it
