    This is wonderful. You just saved me about 500 dollars for a new door opener/installation. I bought an old house with a fairly new-looking Craftsman garage opener but there was no manual and appeared to be completely messed up, refusing to stay closed and blinking etc. I'd never done any work on a garage door opener before and followed your steps and the opener now works perfectly! Very kind of you to take the time to video this. The slasher-kid video interludes were a little freaky and got tiring, but hey, I can overlook that.

    The backup battery should last between 3-5 years. You'll get a constant beeping if the battery is bad. If you take the battery backup out of the equation, it does nothing? If that's the case then I'd say something is up with the board unfortunately. That's kind of a strange scenario you got going on. I've never seen that issue out in the field before. I know the circuit board is the brain of the operation, so any kind of strange issues stem from it. You could get a second opinion from Chamberlain tech support.

    How does your door work manually? Maybe during the set up process the opener is sensing an out of balance door. If the door works good up/down by hand then you should be okay. Set that up first. Even if it stops on the way up when adjusting, keep going. Press the wall button to send it down. Before reaching the floor, press the black button. Fine tune it to the floor. Then press the wall button again to send it up. Last but not least press the learn button (twice). Led on the opener should be flashing fast signifying it's in FORCE CONTROL MODE. Cycle it down then up to complete.

    The travel limit adjustment is not working for me. Down works perfect. On the up travel the lift mechanism comes back and slams into the stop bolt in front of the motor. I adjust the screw and it works fine once or twice then starts hitting the stop screw again. I have adjusted the up limit now every day for four days and it just won't hold. Any help?

    I have an old(er) Model 139.53919 and the problem is when I move it to the down limit and then press the wall remote, the door tries to continue going down, arching the rail as the motor tries to drive the door into the ground. Obviously, I press the button again (quickly) to get it to stop and that's when it starts travelling back up. So the up limit sets just fine wherever I want to, and when I press the wall button it stops & reverses. But the down limit doesn't "set" for some reason. Any ideas?

  • @garagedoorgenius

    @garagedoorgenius

    You set the up limit first correct? I remember when I would program these when they were fairly new. I could never remember what way to set the limits. I would set the down first, and would do the same thing as it's doing to you. Then I would be like, whoops, wrong way. Lol

  • @cra2cra226

    @@garagedoorgenius Must've been something like that. When I'd set the upper limit, it would retain that and then start descending. I would let it hit bottom and then press the black button to stop it there. Then I'd hit the wall remote to "lock it in" which didn't work. Turns out, if you read the instructions carefully, you have to interrupt the descent by hitting one of the buttons on the motor. THEN you can use those same buttons to resume the descent and get the door down. After that, when you hit the wall remote's button, it will have "locked in" the down position. So, if you don't arbitrarily interrupt the descent, you won't have entered the mode to set the down position. Now I know.
