I'm in the process of getting my old Craftsman saw in shape. I got it new in 1993-4 and moved it around while I was getting stationed all over the country. I changed the fence to a Delta T4, got new pulleys and a link belt, changed the plastic tilt and height wheels for cast aluminum, got a zero clearance plate and splitter and lastly, I got the Board Buddy anti-kick back devices. I had 6 strokes ten years ago and want to make this saw as safe as i can. I only have one hand so I'm extra cautious and in no rush. My wife bought this as a Christmas present and I think I spent more doing this!

My Dad built cabinets for 60+ years with his Craftsman table saw from about 1948. I built cabinets since 1963 using several 10 inch Craftsman saws. I purchased used saws & bolted three edge to edge in place of wings which provided three arbors. One rip blade, one finish cross cut blade & a dadoe set. I threw away the cast iron wings that had holes due to safety issues. (It is dangerous if a piece of material catches in a hole!) Instead, I put solid cast iron wings so I have a cast iron surface about 8 feet wide & the fence works anywhere I need it. I love my Craftsman saws.

To take the motor off you loosen the 2 - 1/2" bolts that are on top of the round rods that slide into the housing. That way the whole motor assy. comes off real easy. Also the adjuster bolt that you took the ratchet to should ALWAYS be loose so when you adjust the height of the blade while it's tilted the motor can give and needs to adjust it's self. The weight of the motor will give you all the tension thats needed. I have rebuilt 20 to 30 of these saws over the years. I have picked them up all the way from free to no more than $50 an sell them for $100 to $125. They are going to out last all the junk for years thats on the market now.

I’ve had and used this saw since the 90s and it’s been a great saw and helped build many things.

I have the same saw. I changed out the fence and went with the accu-fence. It really made the saw perform a lot better.

Here in Canada we have the same table only it say Craftsman CabinetMakers Series and doesn't say 3HP. That'a for Americans that can't figure out 120V on a 15 AMP circuit doesn't equal 3HP. The cast iron is really nice. Leveling it is clearly a chore.

I just gave a saw exactly like that to my neighbor. Had for 30 years and great condition. Bought a new one

I bought that saw in 1990, still have it today and fixing start a large DIY project in Arkansaw. So I’ll go through it before I start. Thanks for the video

I have a very similar saw (different year, same model). This guy is going to serve you well. If you run a standard rubber v-belt use a strap to hold up the motor when not in use - reduces tension on the belt so it doesn't conform to the pulley shape and make vibration.

I will be upgrading to a link belt soon and it takes almost all the vibration away, because they dont have a continuous inner banding like the standard v

Kevin, I have the exact same saw. I’ve had it for at least 22 years; I got it from my mother after my father died 25 years ago. He had it at least 10 years. Great saw once it is all adjusted. I bought a Biesemeyer fence for it, best investment ever. I also made and mounted a router table for it. That saw will outlive both of us. I look forward to seeing how you mount a riving knife/splitter to it.

You had me at the use of "making sawdust"! A good friend of mine got me interested in woodworking, or making sawdust as he called it. We were both in software development so woodworking is hobby, not livelihood. I have a Jet Contractor saw which is, likely, made by the same folk that made yours. We moved from where I bought it and the movers clearly were less than careful. I've had bad kickback twice now, it burns wood and the blade is off 10/1000th. I'm jealous you can still pick yours up and move it. I cannot at this point. I do have to realign the blade. Hopefully that'll fix it. Hopefully you'll be realigning yours. I look forward to that vid. Thanks!

I still have this saw I bought sometime around 1990. It was one of the best table saws i've had. Just recently decided to tune it up and use it again. I've been using an industrial powermatic.

@@MakinSawdust I haven't finished this project yet...I noticed how very clean your saw appeared. I didn't want to but dicided to take the motor housing off and inspect for sawdust. I'm glad I did. It was stuffed with sawdust and possibly could have shorted out the circuitry. I think you got a very good contractor saw. I thought about mostly using mine for dadoing. I wouldn't get rid of this saw for anything.

Looking forward to more videos on this saw. On February 23, 2022 I bought a Craftsman 10 inch Contractor Table Saw model 113.298720C with a 1.5 hp motor off of Facebook Marketplace for $50 in Canada. The only missing item is the blade guard assembly from the pivot up. I found one on eBay and ordered it, but it is costing me $150 CDN and most of that cost is shipping.

I did a complete tear-down and rebuild of the same model saw. I went so far as to sand and repaint the body exterior and interior and the trunion. I'm not afraid to say that it looks pretty durn cool, better than factory new. I HIGHLY suggest you look into a new link belt to replace the stock one and upgrade your fence to the Delta T-3. It'll take some minor adjustments to make it mate up but it's a massive improvement over the stock fence.

DUDE!!! You got yourself a new saw there! It's pristine looking and has obviously been well taken care of. No gum or grime underneath and looks to be in great shape! That saw will last your lifetime and be great too. Steve Carmichael @thecarmichaelworkshop uses the same saw too! Awesome score.

I have a similar saw a Sherwood. the angle handle will only work to 44 Degrees the gets really tight. I was happy that you stripped your saw down, I needed to see that. Thanks.

I’ve been thinking of taking it out and tuning it up. The fence was not straight and I didn’t have a splitter. Mix that with newbie and no wonder it kicked back😞

Certainly! I am going to adjust my trunion and fence alignment. I am also going to switch to a link belt to remove the vibration from the standard vbelt. Probably some other minor bits too. What issues are you having? Maybe I can offer some tips in the next video on this saw.

I three older I'm not selling those old horses running forever very easy to rebuilt and added accessories to it....

I just purchased a old Table saw the plate says 1991 and it was sold by the house of tools I need to find parts doer the motor but it seems like it will run fine then I have to adjust the fence and blade thanks for this video it will help a lot

Thanks Mark! A little bit of work and she will be good as new. Ahhhh, the story of the dungeon :) my 2020 shop tour shows a bit but my 2019 talks a bit more detail. There is 2 videos of my bench builds that shows a lot of the work I had to do to get it in shape.

Nice upgrade. Those old Craftsman saws are pretty decent. I use WD-40 and wet sand with 400 grit to get my saw top free of rust. Clean with naptha after and then wax it with furniture wax, thinned with a bit of 3 in 1 oil if you wish.

@@MakinSawdust Nope, mine is a different model. Mine is direct drive with the blade attaching right to the motor shaft.

I have 2 of these. Suckers weight a ton with the wings on. One came with 2 of the metal pan wings attached to 2 of the cast iron wings. looked like a air plane. Only bad thing with these saws is that you can't put a link belt on it and then raise the blade all the way up because the arbor pulley comes so close to the top that the belt will rub. They are really good saws though.

I have an idea............. Mounting the motor underneath the saw and making it a hybrid cabinet saw. It would surely help with my dust collection too.

A friend just gave me one of those. I switched the electric to 110 and shined it up. Top was rusty. Gonna watch to see if I missed something.

I had metal handles on mine..cast. Might have been a year older than yours. Maybe 1989 or so.

I have a very similar saw, I cant quite square it up. The two mitre slots are actually not parallel to each other. I mean very close but not exact. Still for less than perfect cuts its a reliable saw.

I sure would like to see how you adjust the trunnion and how you lubricate the threaded parts for tilt and raising the blade.

Hiya, thanks for this video. I purchased the same table saw and need to rebuild it. While using it I managed to shred some of the belt and can’t figure out how to adjust it so the belt isn’t rubbing against the sidewall. Perhaps you’ll cover that in the belt replacement video. I suspect I need to adjust the pulley underneath the tabletop. Any suggestions are welcome. Vaundee

Looks like a steal for 60 bucks! I picked up one for 50 today but the motor mount is broken but the rest looks in decent shape. I found used mounts on ebay but also found out that the Sawstop saw has the exact same motor mount and is about half the price brand new as the used ones are going for. I looked over you blog about the parts and didn't see it mentioned. I wonder if any other parts from the sawstop are interchangeable. Just thought I'd mention it as another possible source of parts. Thanks for the videos.

Heyman. I have this exact saw. Can you tell me how to adjust the blade angle wheel tension..mine is so tight I can hardly move it

I bought my contractor table saw in 1983 new for $269 a manager special $100 of still have it going strong made a lot of nice things with it ànd the only accident I had was a kick back that split my thumb open had 4 stitches because I had the splitter off the saw but it's a good table saw would not trade it for a new cabinet saw I am 64 now ànd still ues it every week

i've had that exact saw since i bought it new in 1966. great saw, and i just tore it all down this week to clean the inside gears and coat the gears with caurnuba wax. i have 2 questions: what are the larger 2 allen head screws that go into the cast iron top on each side of the red throat plate? 2nd question is: how tight should the belt be? thanks in advance.

I am struggling to remove the rattle on this saw (just inherited it). I replaced the belt but noticed the pulled near the blade was wobbly. I tightened it but it did not do the trick. Any ideas?

Will a rockler table saw sled work with this saw?

I bought one of these in 88, the one I have now has the stamped wings. not as good as the cast one but it does all I need to do

I also have this exact same saw. Just two days ago it started to throw off the motor pulley. I cannot figure out why. Ideas? Also - the blade is extremely close to the inside edge of the insert. Seems like it should be centered?

7:28 have you made that insert with the splitter yet? I just bought the same saw, except my fence rails go the whole way across and beyond. Anyway I'd love to know how to build that insert and splitter for mine.

Hello , I have a Craftsman table saw and my straight drive motor have broken down by the rod going through the Armature is twisted off and I think it would be a problem to weld to together again . I’m wondering if you can help in any way . Thanks. Tfwilli2.

I'm in the process of fixing my late father's table saw which is an older craftsman 10 inch saw much like yours but without the 3hp display. Had to replace the blade pulley which I ordered off of Amazon, (only to find out after it got jammed on the shaft ) the KEY is too big for the slot and the pulley hole is too small 🤬🤬Could've sworn it was for a 5/8 shaft. Now I had to take it all apart to get the pulley off and figure out the next step.

Can you help me? My blade angle won't adjust. I cleaned and lubed the Pinon teeth. The knob gets hard to turn then loose to turn and the trunions don't move as they should consistently while adjust the knob.

Have you loosened the trunion locking screw/handle. It is located on the front of the saw body near the top. Above the height adjustment handle

Hello! I have subscribed and gave a thumbs up! I have a Sears Craftsman Model 113-29834C table saw in Canada here and purchased it from Facebook Marketplace as well. I think it is about 1981-1984 vintage as I downloaded a manual that is very, very close to what it looks like but the model number is slightly different. The saw came with a complete blade guard EXCEPT for the mounting hardware. I am nervous about using it without a blade guard or riving knive. I think you mentioned about the 7:30 mark that you would be designing an insert with a splitter. Did you ever make that video and add a splitter to your machine? Thanks! Mike

Hello Sir, I have this model table saw. I've been trying to figure out the name and or part number for that bottom pin that holds the motor on. Would you by any chance no what the part number is?

I have the same saw. Anyone change the arbor pulley on theirs? My set screw loosens when using; tried lock tite, but that didn't work. So I got new pulleys and a link belt. Removing the arbor pulley, I noticed the key doesn't look removable. Not sure if just seized in there. Anyone know whether that comes out? The new pulleys came with new keys, so I'm assuming so. Thanks in advance.

My saw looks similar to yours mine is a #113-298840 It has had tons of wood run through it and still functions fine. What kind of drive system does your saw have? mine is belt driven. I see you have the same type fence as mine. I use it mostly for making jewlry boxes and other close tolorance jobs. I was going to replace it but it has performed flawless so far and find no reason too.

Sorry for my late reply. Currently I like doing small work also it's just it's light weight and it's not heavy anymore and it's very intricate. Mine is belt driven too but I found that a link belt actually smooth the saw out vibration really good

Where are the other videos on this? Really want to see them as I have one of these and want to make it better

What is a good price for this saw? I found one on marketplace for $120 and the top has surface rust all over it. I want a solid older saw with a 10 inch blade, and this one seems very sturdy

120 is not a terrible deal, but maybe you can deal him down to 100 bucks. The rust is not an issue either. It is possible to clean the rust off, and have a nice finish again. It may not be perfect due to the amount of pitting, but as long as the mechanics of it are good, I would buy it. Edited to add: I paid $60 for mine and that was a steal of a deal based on the condition of mine.

What did we do before the"hoodie" came along, I must have had 30 of them

Cool I bid on a sears craftsman contractor series 10” 3 hp table saw but I’m going to use it as a welding/ plasma cutting table. I already purchased a heavy duty 1/8” steel cart on no mar white caster wheels so I can move it around to different locations. Of course I’ll probably be able to disassemble the table top from the cart for less weight in transportation. But I watch hundreds of videos and I’m very creative.

can I use a dado head on craftsman contractor saw?

I discovered a problem yesterday with my 113.298030 Craftsman table saw when I tried to tilt the blade to cut a 45 degree. Beyond 10 degrees it got increasingly hard to turn the wheel. I did everything I could to get it freed up to no avail....could only get to 20 degrees. Brushed the screw rod, lubed it everywhere I could. Don't know why it's so hard to turn...do you have any ideas short of dismantling the saw???

There is a locking handle on the front of the saw up towards the table base. It locks the trunion into position. Possibly the issue?

Mine pulls too much electricity and pops fuses. Think thats more of a garage problem though

It draws 13 amps, so you should not use an extension cord. Plug it directly into an outlet.

Nice score. You stole it. That is a $100 saw all day long. You paid less than the cost of the cast iron wings for the saw. I paid $125 for a newer version with the align a rip fence. Thought it was worth it for the fence. It has the two cast iron wings like yours. I put in a zero clearance insert and a new blade with a new belt. Good saw. Appreciate your video. Nice job.

I might add, I have the 2HP model I bought in the early 90's and has given me good service. Acquired a 3HP model, same top, same cast iron extensions, stripped it, cleaned and painted the saw assembly, all ready to put back together. Ordered a used "Craftsman Align a Fence 24/24 rip fence" to make ripping more accurate, and help me cut larger boards.

@@yauwohn appreciate that info. My motor is a 1.5 hp which may be a replacement motor. the 'as advertised' 3hp rating, I have found out is the rating if you have the beefy 3hp 220 volt motor. I honestly have not had the need for more power, but if I ever run across or need a motor, I will get the big boy. I want to upgrade to a link belt soon for vibration sake. A fence upgrade is on the wish list too, but I have yet to decide if I want to make one or buy one. The fence I have is ok, but I would like a nicer one.

@@MakinSawdust It also breaks with stress, I took both extensions off before I loaded it on my pickup, fee it may have been, but wasn't going to risk damage. Worked with cast iron for years.

I think they started with a 1 1/2 HP motor, then went up to 2HP, as stated my old saw is 2HP, and the freebee is 3HP 120 volt. These weren't really DIY user saws, they were small shop semi pro saws, the home DIY saws were similar but pressed steel tops and pressed steel extensions. I also have a radial arm saw, large jointer and a shaping machine by Sears, all heavy cast iron machines. With the 3HP saw I got a very old Sears 4 1/2" Jointer, a bit rusty, but will clean up and join my growing workshop tools. Not a big Jointer, but will handle small work that's too small for the 6 1/2" Sears machine.

I had one of these back in the day. I don't remember, do you need special wrenches to change the blade?

Just need a regular boxend wrench and a scrap of wood to wedge the blade stationary

I gave up on mind and purchased a grizzly g1023rlx. Much happier
