Creating a handmade custom DIY surreal art collage is easy! I share my tips and techniques on how I create my analog collages as I cut out pictures and illustrations out by hand with a small pair of scissors and a craft knife. Finding inspiration from old books is one of the most fun steps to this process. These can come from used books, encyclopedias, magazines, vintage postcards, or anything else you can find lying around your house. I find most of my books and magazines from thrift stores, antique stores, flea markets, Craigslist, or even on the side of the road! Watch as I arrange my elements and try different ideas as I talk through my process to create my final design.
Collages made out of paper have a custom made feel that you can't get from a digital collage made in Photoshop. And, there is an added challenge of only being able to use materials that you have access to!
Want to try creating your own? Just grab a magazine, scissors, and a glue stick!

You could stick a magnet on the back of it to hang on your fridge or filing cabinet to display it.

Yes!!!
For future reference, if you need a bit of wiggle with the mounting squares you can put a bit of liquid glue on the pad after removing the tape. That will give you a little bit of slip for long enough to shift something slightly if needed.

This is a great tip!!! Thank you!
It doesn’t need to close anyway. If you want it to close, you’d probably have to decorate the outside as well. I love it the way it is, sooooo cute.
Very fun result! I don't think it needs to close. You want the inside to be seen! I made one in a sardine tin years ago and glued a little flat bamboo piece to the bottom so it is free standing.
Having the tin open like that maybe makes a person want to get a look inside. ANYHOO - I 💜💜💜it! The dice have a nice 3D effect. The entire thing fools the eyes. I 💜💜💜the cactus top IN THE top half. Fabulous!

Thank you!! I'm so happy splitting the cactus worked out!
It looks awesome! You could also add some small string/twine to the sides, to make it look like an old suitcase that's open.

Love this idea!
Yes, this turned out really cute, love the dimension and it doesn't matter that the lid doesn't close!❤
Turned out super cute. Everything goes so good together. I think you should just hang it up open and enjoy it the way it is. Thanks for a fun morning.
Forceps, it really helps in positioning and placing small pieces in tight spaces. And also retrieving small bits that fall behind already set elements.

I was surprised you weren't using that. I drop stuff & lose it under a piece of immoveable furniture.
Really enjoyed this process. Gave me lots of new ideas. Love your finished product so much. You are very talented. Thanks for sharing. 💜❤️💜
It looks fantastic. I think that it doesn't need to close.
Oh my goodness Rosie put up a new video, I’m so excited to see you again. As always I love this . I had a similar idea with boats in an Altoids box. I really love the 3 D effect. I didn’t think about that either with the closing. Can’t wait for the next one

Boats would be a great subject for a tin!
Great process video and project. The lid doesn't have to close. You could also decorate the lid top.
Yes, Rosie I vote that you do another one. So terrific to watch you create anything that inspires you. Nancy
Rosie, I'm so glad to see a new video from you! I love this creation💖! I would love to see what you could create in a shadow box or even in the back of a wood canvas.
Rosie the final world in the Aletoids tin looks, great,Maybe put some kind of hanger on the tin so you could hang it up open as it really works behind displayed that way.The dice really pulled it together.(Matt)

I just recently found your channel, and OMG! I am so glad I did. Your collage work is totally awesome. I absolutely love it all. I've never seen anything so amazingly creative. It's not like you simply put some glue on images and slap them down, no, it is obvious that you take some time and really think on backgrounds, images, placement, color and contrast, and how it all blends and works together to create the brilliant art pieces that are uniquely yours. This piece is so awesome, the dice really add depth and dimension to the piece. It is so interesting and inspiring to watch you! Thank you for sharing!!
This is very cool!! I love how you cut the paws to go over the mountains. And I’m glad you were able to keep the top of the cactus lol 🤩🤩🤩
This is so eye-catching. Display it open.
That is so much fun! I don’t care if the lid doesn’t close. You should definitely do more!
Cool trick that works really well. After you take the backing off of your foam tape, pull out a glue stick and smear it over the adhesive. The glue stick gives you a little wiggle room to move things around as long as you don’t use a quick stick type of glue stick. The stronger adhesive will connect as the glue stick dries and you end up with a really firm bond.
Oh, what FUN! Definitely do more little box collages. Love your videos, guaranteed smiles!
I love it. Set it on a window ledge. Maybe put a sticky bit on the bottom so it stays put.
Your creations are amazing! Even when you make mistakes they are amazing. This such a cool idea! Thank you
I love it! Don’t worry about the lid closing it is too cool as is ❤
Even though it doesn’t close, this turned out wonderfully, Rosie!!!! So fun!
Day of Honey is happy day always
Love it! 😍 And so happy to see you putting up a new video I’ve been anxiously waiting for your next one! You and Flanzella should do another collaboration! 😁😍
So much fun really...and the excitement is tense for the finals...but it was worth the wait. 🎉Flowers for you❤❤❤
Take off the hinges and then it becomes a lid fir a box too & bottom. . . also paint the top and bottom outsides. I loved how cute this idea is. Great job❤
Fun!! I wanted to make a tiny felted fairy doll for my granddaughter using a tiny tin,so this was fun to see what can be done!!
I freaking love what you did here. Not a fan or the tv and road over the cactus scene, but you made it work so well. Thanks!
I am sooo excited to see a notification from you Rosie!!!!! It turned out fabulous!
This was so much fun to watch!! I absolutely love the 3 cats and their sweet little paws 😍
That was fun! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ups/downs along the way, Rosie! Super cool stuff 🎉
How fun! I have been missing your videos! ❤
Oh my..a shock surprise to see you again.
It looks amazing! Gives me lots of ideas. How about collaging the outside also of the one that you make that will close?

It's so much fun... how you work and what you make...
So cute!! ❤❤❤ I’ve loved making old worldy tins as gifts in lieu of cards for those big birthdays. You’ve given my lots more ideas though!
missed you Rosie. Thanks for the thousand sparks of creativity you inspire in me.
I’m so glad you figured out a positive solution to it. Yes you just have to make another one! You did a great job
I think I preferred the bus to the dice, back of the bus disappearing over the bridge. Easy for me to say. Great video thank you. X.

I love how this turned out, even though it doesn’t close. 😊 Perfect as is!
This is why crafting is fun AND frustrating lol. It’s super cute! Love cats n space!
I love your collection of collage pieces you've collected. And of course the project you completed. ❤
Love this project and how it turned out. You are so talented Rosie. I think you should do an entire series of these. Do you want us to all send you tins?

I dig YOU! This was so fun to watch, thanks for bringing us along for the ride 😊
I have been saving a few tins for months. Now I have inspiration to do something with them. This turned out amazing! Love the 3D effect the layers give ❤
I think it's just precious even if the Altoids tin doesn't close! Thanks, Rosie.
Way too cool! I love the cats! The T.V. at the end of the sidewalk reminds me of something one would see in a Tom Petty video from back in the day!! I predict this is going to be an addiction for me! Thanks so much for sharing!
This turned out great. So cute! I have missed your creativity!
Super cute! Loved watching your process. You should definitely do another one!
Very cute, turned out better than I thought it would. TFS!
Thank you for this video! I have saved so many Altoid tins over the years with plans to do SOMETHING arty in them. Now I’m inspired to get them out. Also, thank you so much for letting us know how long it took you to actually create this collage project. That was really helpful 😊
Oh wow rosie. Missed you😊❤ i absolutely love this. I would never had thought it wouldnt close. Yikes after all that thoughtfulness. Iblike it open anyway😂❤
I honestly would never want to close that beautiful landscape anyways 🥹
This is brilliant.. love it 😻
It would look cute hanging open on the fridge with magnets
Loved watching your creative process!❤❤
I’m always happy to see your videos thank you
This came out awesome- so glad you are back with a new video! A tip I learned is you can put some wet glue on the mounting squares and it will give you a little wiggle room before it dries- and extra stick, too.

Love, love, love!!! Good to see you with another video! This turned out great! I adore all miniatures and besides collage, I enjoy making dollhouse miniatures too. There is something almost magical about small things! If you like making collages “in things” - I’ve made tiny collages in a book I hollowed a deep cut of - hope that makes sense! I’ve also done collages inside of cigar boxes, an old clock, a tin can, a ring box, a mirrored compact, etc. Possibilities are limitless, right? TFS! Kathleen

I love this idea! I have some of those tins lying around and I know I’ll be making one! It’s so cute. Yeah, the fact that it doesn’t close is okay, I’ll consider that when making it if I want it to close. Thanks ❤❤👍👍
I loved watching you and how it turned out! It really doesn't matter if it won't close. It is still soooo cool! ❤
Love your ideas. I make scenes in sardine cans and tuna cans. So fun.
