Listen don't know if you've gotten that brush to clean out your die cuts yet but I have a solution for you that works great and you don't need the brush use dry or sheets! Yep that's right dryer sheets if you put the dryer sheet in underneath the paper so it's the die cut dryer sheet paper sandwich when you remove the dryer sheet it's going to bring out the paper and nothing is going to stick that prevents anything from sticking and everything is going to be weeded! It's an awesome tip I learned from KZread just passing it on!

I saw a video a guy did some years back that said the dryer sheets leave deposits on your dies???? Not sure how true that is.😉

Perhaps with some of the harder dies to cut you could try a shim or two to get a little more pressure! I have gotten a lot of TEMU dies and never had trouble cutting them because if it seems a little loose, I add paper shims until it comes out good! Happy crafting. I'm for saving a few bucks myself! LOL

I use cereal box cardboard as shims. When they wear out toss and use new.. any cardboard box like rice box, teabag box, usually the thinner you can double them up for added pressure!! Works for me and doesn't cost extra. Just up /re cycle

Use vinyl shims and your plates will stop wrapping and you won't get cuts into your plate. Saves on replacement plates

Another tip is if you have a die with a straight line, place it at a slight angle on the base and it will cut easier for you.

I liked them all lol! The spellbinders brush works great. Otherwise, use a pokey tool is easier than a tweezers. You can buy fancy beaded ones for around $10 or dollar tree has pink ones for $1.25. I run detailed dies through twice to make it easier. or add extra cardstock under the bottom clear plate to add extra pressure to get a better cut. You are not cutting into that cardstock, just making a thicker sandwich. I hope that makes sense. Your machine should have instructions for different sandwiches. Great video

Use a piece of thick card stock as a shim, sometimes that is all you need. Also, yes, the plate bowing, or warping is normal. On the pocket die, the individual pocket is designed to line your big piece, cut out in a different color, or print and glue it on top of each pocket. The star on the button is embossed. You need to add a rubber embossing mat between the die and card stock in order to emboss the star ⭐️

Hello...good video! TY. Since you read comments, a piece of cheap, thin copy paper, between the paper and die keeps the marks off your plates and the finished die cut. That way you dont have to dedicate 1 plate for the top. Also helps with getting a clean cut because of the slightly thicker sandwich. 😊

Oh forgot to add that you should get a metal precision plate, it helps with intricate dies and doesn't warp. I have to say my favorite was the floral envelope and rose, but I like the others as well.

I’ve first video you did with your Big Shot and now this one. I’m nervous about ruining my Big Shot too and haven’t used it, though I’ve had it for about three years along with a thin-lit die cut machine. I’ve really enjoyed watching your videos and feel more confident in using my machine now that you’ve showed me what to do and what to expect. Lol 😊 I can’t wait to play with all of the dies I’ve collected over the years as well as my embossing folders. I bought both the embossing folders and the die cuts when they were being clearances out or when AC Moore and Tuesday Morning were going out of business (so sad because I loved both of these stores). It looks like we have several of the same dies and it has inspired me to dig them out and actually use them which was a 2024 goal to use/shop my stash! I wasn’t sure so I sent one through without breaking it apart but it didn’t work great. Then, when I did break them apart, they worked great! So, I definitely feel that you should separate them, especially if you’re having problems. Otherwise, I really got some tips from you, like having a definite top and a definite bottom. I think i’m going to go ahead and write top on one of them with a sharpie. Thanks for the share!

You go big girl!! I dont have a die cutter but I enjoy watching you learn. You could use the leftover as masks. Gayle agostnelli put them on old book paper and inked around the template with colors and then stamped inside them. Very cute. Watch her video. That's a pretty fun gadget I have to say.

@suzyallen1726- i’m not sure what kind of crafting you do, and this is certainly just my opinion but, I think almost any kind of crafting could use a dye cutter/embossing machine. They are awesome! I’m a card maker, and I make all my pictures, images, etc. for the cards on the dye cutter almost every time. But even if you’re not a card maker, you can use it for making junk journals and travel, journals and scrapbooking and even if you’re a woodworker, you could make labels and things to put on the wood or you can decoupage with your dye cuts. The list is endless in my opinion. I have the big shot and the cuddle bug and the Spellbinders platinum six and also one of those itty-bitty ones and I love them all. Mostly I use the Spellbinders platinum six. I know it sounds like a sales person and I don’t work for any of those companies. I just love their products!

I realize this video is 11 months old but it just popped into my feed. I had a thought about those rose dies. You could cut that in different colors and use the parts that get thrown out, as a fill color for the lined rose. When I was a cookie decorator we had a rose cookie that would get lined in black frosting then filled in red. The pastel colored roses were in a white outline and pastel colored frosting. I played with color on ones were were given free reign. One of my favorites was to line in dark purple and fill with lavender. That's what I was thinking about with those roses, use the big die as an outline and take the cutouts as a fill color. Unless you have a solid die or can cut a piece to fit around the rose itself.

Just started the video, but wanted to comment on the tickets and film strip dies. The one end doesn’t have a cutting edge so you can line up the die and cut a longer strip. So basically, you can cut a filmstrip as long as your piece of paper. Hope that makes sense. Also, (although you probably wouldn’t want to do this for a video) my favorite way of getting my die cuts out is by throwing down or slamming down the die against my table:). They pop right out, most of the time.

I need to try out more of my dies. Sizzix makes that little brush and I think it comes with a pick to poke out the holes. Comes in a set. I don’t have it, but might use one of my Joanne discount coupons on it. In the meantime, I picked up a little pick at Dollar Tree in the craft section. Might be more precise than using your cool tweezers. I need to find a pair of those (or just one, ha ha - it’s like scissors; why do we call them pairs? LOL!)

Hi Laurie! Using the JoAnns coupons is a great idea. I’ll have to check that out. I heard the Temu brush is pretty good too. I have a few pokey tools but I always forget something when I’m filming on my kitchen table. Luckily the tweezers worked just as well. (Totally get it, like a pair of pants or shorts! What’s up with that?! LOL)

I have the sizzix magnetic base cutting plate it is so much better for smaller dies. It is also white but is magnetic. I also put was paper between the paper and die on very intricate die’s and run it through 2 or 3 times

I run the die through once, the reverse and then forward again, on all my Temu & AliExpress dies. I usually works well, if I think I need it I add a shim.

I like the black pocket. You know that spare piec6is to cover your fronts of the pocket holder, you could use solder or printed cardstock to decorate the front of your pocket holder

Love it love all the dies and I have some of them. Here's a few ideas. On your lace en elope put pink or white behind the first flip. It will show your lace better. And your last film strip die you did the square parts are for specimen cards.

Have fun. A soft brush will probably punch those little parts. Also a piece of wax paper makes intricate dies cut easier. I use it all the time.

Thank you for this video. I have a few suggestions. I would definitely purchase the die brush. I have 2, the Sizzix one and the Spellbinder one. I like them both, it is worth it. With the positive paper on some of the dies you can use them as a stencil. Just put the stencil on the paper and use your Tim Holtz applicator. Like that fairy one is perfect for that. I also turn and flip the die cut plates often to make the plates last longer. I think if you were to cut apart the film strip die from Amazon, you would get the full size file die. I think you can also make a shaker out of it. Last suggestion. On the dies that are intricate, I like to make a shim out of cardstock or thin paper depending on how thick the paper is that you are using to die cut. I’ll cut my shim 4x6 or 5x7 and put it on top of the die and then put the top plate over and send it through. Hope I didn’t confuse you with anything.

If you spritz the paper with water, a very fine spray will make the cut easier. There is also a metal chrome cutting sheet that makes cutting great.

I have two sets of plates because if you don’t rotate and flip your cutting plates, they warp horribly. The second set is kept nice for embossing.

To help with the little pieces coming out, layer a dryer sheet under the paper. The pressure of your machine will punch those little pieces into the dryer sheet. You may still need to punch the pieces out of the metal die.

If items are not in order, you can always indicate that you want to return them. With small amounts they give money back and leave the item. You have quite a few days for that. I try to switch the plates also up and down and rotate. I don't use the big shot that often either, but this has worked well for me so far.

I have tried embossing, it’s beautiful. I know there are tips and tricks about that too. Like spraying the paper first so it won’t crack and laying the folder at an angle to not mess it up. Crazy stuff but like you said, definitely having fun!

If you aren't getting the details from your dies you need a rubber mat shin it pushes the details into the paper.

I didn't read through all your comments so maybe this is a duplicate. But i have noticed that no one seems to know or use this incredible jack to preserve your cutting plates. It's really quite easy to do and inexpensive as well. Purchase a length of vinyl from Walmart or your local fabric store - the thickest ml they have. Then purchase a set of flexible food cutting mats from the Dollar Tree store. Cut the vinyl and mat the size of your plate and use them as a shim. You're sandwich on top of one of your plates will be: 1-food mat, 2-vinyl piece (you can use 1 or 2 pieces), 3-paper to be cut, 3-die. Place your other plate to the top and run it through the Sizzix. You will almost never need to add the green mat with the sandwich instructions tho the sandwich. The die will not cut into your plate any longer and this completely stops the plates from warping as well. After 2 years my plates both look about the same as your top plate in this video. The vinyl will cost you maybe $5 and you'll have enough from a yard to make more than 30 shims. The thin cutting mats cost $1.25 for two and will get you about 4 shims. All in all, for less than $7 you'll have enough shims to last years and never have to pay the price of new plates. On another note, I've purchased a lot of dies from Temu. I've only had a problem with one of them not being properly manufactured and they immediately gave me a refund and told me to keep the faulty die. Especially on rectangular pieces, try putting them in the plate on the diagonal so the point of a corner is going through 1st. This will give you a better cut. Also, you might try running it through twice rather than just once to ensure all areas get cut and all embossed details transfer to your paper. Enjoy your cutter and dies!

The big shot is awesome and it’s the widest one. There is so you can fit just about anything through it depending upon your craft but I think it is the biggest. I have that one but I also have a smaller one called the Spellbinders platinum six. It’s not as wide but it accommodates everything I do for the most part because I’m just a card maker, so I don’t do really really wide things and I don’t need anything wider than 6 inches to go through, but I do have the big shot just in case. I’m not rich I got these things over a long long long, long period of time, plus some of them were gifts

maybe you already know but the ticket and filmstrips have no end because you can make them as long as you want.....just have to have a long piece of paper😉😊

I turn my sandwich over to see if it all cut before I lift it off the plate. If not I run it again and maybe add a paper shim.

@@SunsetCrafts Tell me about it! I have the regular Big Shot, the Vagabond, Sidekick... But, Tim Holtz said the fold away works better than the newer Switch machine, too. So I invested. You could also try using different "sandwiches" in the machine, including a shim. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your videos!

The die cuts I have gotten from Temu have always had an issue. I ordered a front door die that had the stamps and the inner cutouts, like the window frame insert, etc. the set came without the insert so I let them know and they sent the insert set. The new insert set was smaller than the original cutting die so I could no use it. After four attempts they finally got me a complete set, however the complete set did not line up. I have to use different parts from the sets I got that were wrong. I have also found you need to use shims for them to cut out, but expect to do a little trimming with an exacto knife. I’d rather spend money on a product I don’t have to fiddle with to get it right.

My friend just bought one, the dies cut nicely, however when we tried to emboss something the entire " Sandwich " lifted up. We are afraid to try it again. Put the paper and die on the plate in an angle for a better cut.

I have the ticket and film strip dies. You are not doing anything wrong. They do not completely cut out. I just use scissors to cut them away.

Don’t put your die’s through the middle of your big shot, try placing them on a angle

Second comment;). The last die, it looks like you can use it lots of ways. Cut the main piece twice and glue together, back to back, for a pocket. You can glue the one part down for a flip out. Also, the edge pieces may be sized to go along the short edge. For the frame dies that had the lines inside, you can ink the die with Archival and run through to make that part show up more. The dies clean up with hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol. Finally, if you angle the dies before running them through, they cut better and your plates won’t warp as much. Plates do warp and wear out after use so that’s normal. Die cutting is my jam and I love it so if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
