Craft Rooms Through the Years: Witness the Transformation of My 'Craft Palace'

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

My first craft room was actually an extra room in our basement furnace room. It's became an evolution over the years. As my passion grew, so did my space.
After outgrowing my first small space, I was lucky enough to take over our unused workout room. It was huge. I was able to spread out and create zones for my crafting. I was also a licensed nail technician at the time, so I made room in my craft room to accommodate my table and supplies.
I found a lot of my storage and organizing items at Goodwill. I love being creative and finding new ways to use found things! As an example, I used small square vases, filled them with Cricut markers and pens and set them on a lazy Susan. It worked like a charm.
I opened a small store in our hometown and decided to have crafting classes. I love improvising. My large craft table was made from old oak kitchen cabinetry with old hollow core doors sitting on top of them. They worked like a charm. I found that I could string extension cords through the door knob openings and then I could place lamps on top of the table without cords all over the place.
I outgrew this craft room so I moved the room to the stores lower level. At this time I found Martha Stewart craft tables were being discontinued and was able to purchase four of them for my craft classes. I covered the tops with clear vinyl table covering purchased by the yard at my local JoAnn Fabrics store. This kept them from being damaged while painting during classes.
A few years later, we sold our home and I closed the store. Our new home had a great room just perfect for a craft room. It was a big job trying to combine both of my craft rooms into one. After a month or so, I finally had things under control. I ordered Better Homes and Gardens 8 cube storage units, a couple of,arching bookcases and a few more craft tables and cabinets all from Martha Stewart. I loved this room and the amazing natural light. I had four huge windows in my room. My dog Jax loved it too! He "worked in the window" everyday!
We decided to sell this house and downsize and would you believe it….MY CRAFT ROOM SOLD MY HOUSE! True story!
We moved into a 1300 sq ft duplex. Luckily it had a finished basement. My husband told me to build my new "craft palace" as he called it, in half of the finished basement! I was thrilled. It is about 15'x25'. When we sold the house, my buyer bought my craft room furniture so I was starting from scratch.
I researched new craft furniture for weeks trying to find exactly what I wanted. In the end I ordered from IKEA and had two deliveries. My husband and I put everything together. I also purchased Sauder craft furniture too.
This home has nearly zero for storage so I had to find a place for all of my extra supplies. I "created" a storage room behind my IKEA Kallax units. It worked great.
After hanging a cool wall mural I found on Amazon, the room was starting to come together. I ordered a couple of Cricut lamps to add to my lighting. I also purchased two wide modular drawer units to house my ink pads, glitters, office supplies, etc…
I finally got the room together. I couldn't be happier.

My 14 year old puppy wears doggie diapers too. Don’t know how I noticed that while in awe of your beautiful craft space.

Jax was a rescue with pulled tail syndrome. We’ve had him for about 11 Yrs. He’s my craft room partner. See some of my older videos. We’ve recently moved and he is in the background laying in the window at the old house. 😊

Kimberly…… love this craft palace in review video. I spotted an item, on one of your later clips, and I’m curious of we are possibly not too far apart, living in same neck of the woods? I live in Midwest ILLINOIS…. I have a decent space, but in the basement….. cold during winter, and right now, I’m emptying two dehumidifiers every morning, to ensure my obscene amount of craft paper and adhesives are safe! I also have a sister whom works at IKEA, but so far I’m too frugal to makeover my entire room….

Better homes and gardens has the storage cube units as well. That’s what was in my last craft room. With selling the furniture to my buyer, is how I got to start from scratch. Otherwise it would have still been the same furniture. I was fortunate to be able to do it this way.

Look to see if there is a space for a hose so you can run the hose to the drain if possible.
