Tsuiki is the art of raising vessels from copper sheets and tinning it for aesthetic beauty and food-safety.
Tsuiki belongs to the broader field of Tankin hammering, but is a term used only in Tsubame and Sanjo in Niigata. Artisans from around Japan and the world travel to Tsubame to learn this craft, and I was fortunate to be able to experience the centuries old techniques with master artisan Susa Makoto-San. Susa-san has over 3 decades of experience in the art of Tsuiki, which is the art of vessel raising from flat sheets.
