    I want to make several of these for gifts for my church women's group, so I have watched a few tutorials. Yours is the best--very clear, easy to follow instrutions. I especially appreciate your attention to detail, i.e. the neat corners and the glue dot under the knot. Thanks so much--now I feel like I can get started!

    Karen McNall I made 11 of these cute notebooks for my group, along with a tea bag caddy, hot cocoa mix in a large "matchbook" packet, a decorated binder clip, a large paper clip with a flat flower hot-glued on it, and a candy cane. The ladies seemed to love the little Dollar Tree totes I used to contain it all. They were especially appreciative of the little notebooks saying they were just right to fit in their purses. Again, thanks for your super clear tutorial!

    Karen McNall you are very welcome. I was impressed with your result. Very nice. I’d be happy to buy one and also (thanks to your tutorial) to try to make one, if you know what I mean. I’d also never of thought of adding an embossed label on the front which was a really nice idea. Thank you for this tutorial. It was really nice of you to post it.

    I break down my paper cost. For example:. 20 sheets of glitter paper Michael's is 19.99 which is $1 a sheet. I can wrap around 2 composition books front and back with one 11.75 x 12 sheet. So I take that $1 per sheet and divide it by 2 which is 50 cents. So when I'm adding my material cost for my paper, in this case is (.50) then multiply it by 2. So a Dollar for my paper per composition.

    Thanks for your price breakdown. I appreciate feedback. Pricing depends on the market you are selling in. My area may be much different than your area. I try my best not to overprice, but keep competitive and cover my costs plus. I do my best to purchase supplies on huge discounts, thus more margin. I hope that helps with my pricing logic.

    You forgot that expensive tape, ribbon and whatever other embellishments you might use, some cost for the table oh, and your time. I think $3 is too much personally, but I just make them for something to do and just want my calls back and I don't have to pay for a table. Craft fair prices always seem high to me but I was not taking into consideration the price they pay for their space and table.

    What kind of glue can you use that won't crinkle the paper if you don't have the tape? The paper has a tendency to not want to stick to the binding so what's the best glue for that?

  • @karenmcnall

    @karenmcnall

    Sharon. I do not add paper to the binding because it’s too small in my mind.

    Karen McNall That's too cheap. You have to charge for your time. I time myself. These sale on Etsy for $3 to $9. You have to charge for your time. Your hourly rate divided by how many you make in an hour. Plus cost of material times 2. Example:. If you charge $15/hr and you make 10 an hour and material is .50 cents. Then you would charge $2.50 for the mini book.
