Low & Teen Angst sound fantastic to my ears still today. I admit my bias re: Cracker, though seems both their big hits have aged well & now sound better with age like wine (cheese &crackers) radio hits during time frame (music of around 30 years ago) to include some personal fave bands that had awesome hits, some recently even . Cracker released several ‘killer. no filler’ albums after hits records since as well.

In this , David Lowery of tries to convince a girl to go down with him - not an easy sell. Lowery has never been clear on the meaning, but his record company did make him sign a letter saying that the lyric was "like being stone" in an effort to convince radio stations that the was not about drugs.

David Lowery was never a heroin addict. I believe the song is loosely based on the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. "A million poppies gonna make me sleep". They fall asleep in a field of poppies in the story. Also, when he says "Gonna walk the streets behind a green sheet of glass", when the characters arrive at Oz they are made to wear glasses with green lenses so everything is a shade of green.

Great song! Totally agree the lyrics show a more sinister side. "Just one rose" "junkie cosmonaut" "poppies" lines mean its heroin. I think it's an addict struggling with his desire to get his gf to try it. He knows that's wrong but also wants someone to be low with him. I love how the lyrics start with romanticizing the drug then get more real and messed up as he continues.

Right. Ive seen Cracker dozens times since late 90s in many different venues. Its fantasy like to catch them in fairly small clubs they play mainly, so I’m glad band’s underrated or whatever. IMO Cracker is lost festy bonanza In all honesty, I really think the summer festival promoters are missing out on Cracker - band is no doubt national treasure I caught them@. 2004 Bonnaroo Cracker but exception proves rule. Underrated clearly, but is that right word?? Result is due to clueless music industry clowns focused on social media bot approved acts while seeminly ignoring /unaware of many other dozens of artists of such caliber that do have large followings overall especiallu combined-untapped.

But largely due to categorization by marketing specialists who map demographics & charts working snf living inside “averages mentality’ who create groom Frankensteins “influencers” in toxic social media money mining models. Flawed maps inpervious to actual terrain of music lovers .

Although the writer obviously likley has specific insight into what the lyrics mean to them, to me it's more mostly a bunch of cool sounding phrases... But the general impression that I got from it was different than yours. First thing that I think shouldn't be somehow missed (especially since the first thing showed in the video is a hand picking up a stone) is that the primary definition of being stoned is to be literally repeatedly hit with stones, likley as one lays helpless on the ground, or something like that. But the big impression that I was left with is that he feels comparitivley inferior to her

Unsolicited tip, don't feel the need to parse every word. Music is more about music than lyrics. You talk a lot about the lyrics and the video and take everything literal but offer little to no musical insight regarding the layers, composition, production quality, guitar solos, intros etc. You know like an actual musical review.
