Why I stopped going had NOTHING to do with decor. Went there at least 3-4 times a month. We used to frequent a 50s style diner for about a decade. Knew our favorite meal items by heart. When we noticed the smaller portions and some substitutions, we asked the server. The new owners had hired a quality control person from a chain restaurant background. Fewer people ate there and the restaurant closed in less than a year. I get adding and deleting items which is done in every restaurant if something is not selling well is replaced by a new item. But too many drastic changes can alienate the old base. Many customers have to minimize eating out because of costs elsewhere which come first. Eating out isn't a necessity. A good restaurant must have a solid and decent menu to retain customers.

They stopped making their food from scratch. That's what changed. There was a Michigan based chain named "Bill Knapp's" that had similar menu to Cracker Barrel. As soon as they stopped making their food from scratch the quality dropped. People slowly stopped going. So they "modernized" the dining area to make it more "releveant' and then the lost even more people. So they switched back to the old decor, but the food was still lower quality. They were all closed within a year.

I had the hash brown casserole once, it tasted like it was something made from a box mix. Honestly, when one opened in Oregon, i was interested in trying it as I'd heard nothing but good, honestly it was nothing remarkable, and the prices were higher then i thought they should be.

They only care about making money, or at least what they believe will make them money. I get it, they have a bottom line to meet. But some things are sacred. Give us the real, old-school Cracker Barrel.
What do you expect when they delete half their menu! We used to love Cracker Barrel, now we don't even bother!!

It just beautiful...I love the updated biscuits
Any restaurant is noisy but removing the wall in the middle that’s not a good idea it’s going to increase the noise. I like to be able to talk to people across the table instead of having to shout at them. I like the old signs on the wall that’s very unique it’s one of the things I enjoy about going there. They removed a bunch of those for some common cut and paste signs it’s not very much fun. I hope they stay in business I go there with my family a lot.
The whole reason I always went there was not only because I liked their food but because of that old timey rustic style they had. After watching this video I think I’ll just get my food to go
The fireplace is actually a nightmare as an employee because in December it HAS to be lit regardless of temperature outside. So many employees were struggling to breathe during their shifts, overheating, etc. Like pls fix the actual issues.
Looks like any other restaurant. I like the old style. My family and I went to Cracker Barrel for Father's Day after church, and it was packed. The food was really good, and our waitress was superb.
We've been a few times lately. Service was slow at times, waited forever for our food and then part of it was cold. I had to ask for a knife to cut my chicken fried steak and they brought a knife that looked like a large knife used in the kitchen. They forgot several items at another time and we had to keep asking for them. Portion size is cut way down.
Those of who remember would never ever go to cracker barrel in the last 30 years.
