"Cracka Barrel" is too low! The Old Man's Garage Malibu played a bad trick on Moroso Trick Springs!

As we're fond of saying here around the shop, anything worth doing once is worth doing twice so let's take this G Body front suspension apart again! Unfortunately for us, and Bill, the Moroso Trick Springs for the front of this car although they give excellent travel aren't rated for the weight this thing carries over the nose. Steel bumper, steel fenders, hood, all the accessories, and a small block... it's just too much weight and crushing the springs down to the bump stops.
So, back to the old setup we go! These old springs SEEM to be the original ones to the car and have the nose pretty low even as is. Seeing as we still have them in 1 piece and a stiffer Trick Spring isn't available for a few days... The Old Man's Garage Malibu is going back together with "stock" springs so he can keep on rolling. Unfortunately with the change in ride height there WILL be a few adjustments needed on the alignment though not much so a quick little touch up on the rack and she's ready to roll.
For those who are curious as to the tool we use for the coil spring installation and removal that is from OTC, part number is..
OTC 7045B
Huge thanks as always to all our subscribers, followers, fans, and customers who have made our business successful and gotten our channel to where it is today. Special thanks to the SRC / Street Racing Channel / SRC Garage / Old Man's Garage / Junkyard Digs folks for showing such amazing support for us over the past several months. Without all of you we wouldn't be anywhere near where we are today. We hope you enjoy this one!

The huge sway bar in the rear actually keeps the car from swaying and rolling on the street and track! With 28x10.5 Hoosier ddr2's I get 1.53 60 foot times with just a 98 mph 1/8 mile.

Many, many years ago I was reading an early 70's Pontiac service manual and it recommended taking those two bolts out to change the front coils. I was putting front coils under my 56 Chevrolet so I thought I would try it. Worked great. Didn't need a spring compressor because of the geometry of lowering the inside of the A arm instead of the outside. I was laying on my back and just used a floor jack to lower the A arm slowly. I guess if you are going to be replacing the ball joints and or bushings maybe doing the outside is better but it sure seemed easier to me because I didn't have a spring compressor and didn't need one. May not work on all cars.

In December 2012 SPX was purchased by Robert Bosch GmbH and OTC became part of their Bosch Automotive Service Solutions division. Hopefully Bosch is smart enough to NOT screw up the OTC product line. I daily drive with them on a C1500 with a BBC & AC…matched my 5” drop rear with no cutting. My truck weighs 2500lbs out front, so I KNOW it’ll keep his off the bump stops! Possibly actually WILL have to cut those a little for his car 🤷🏻‍♂️ Remember, if they say “small block Malibu” they’re referring to a gutted/lighter drag type car. But, as I said they have a specific weight rating and at 3800lbs his car should be 2100-2200lbs on the front based on 55-58% guesstimate👍🏼 They drive just fine when rated correctly!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the stock style vulcanized rubber control arm bushings/bolts be tightened down with the vehicle sitting at its' normal ride height? If you tighten them down at one end of its' travel, it will overly twist the rubber like a torsion spring, change ride height, and cause rubber to prematurely tear out when flexed through full range of travel. Aftermarket polyurethane style bushings pivot like a hinge, and you can tighten them down in any position of travel.
