Crack in the World Trailer
Ойын-сауық
Dr. Steven Sorenson plans to tap the geothermal energy of the Earth's interior by means of a thermonuclear device detonated deep within the Earth. Despite dire warnings by fellow scientist Ted Rampian, Dr. Sorenson proceeds with the experiment after secretly learning that he is terminally ill. This experiment causes a crack to form and grow within the Earth's crust, which threatens to split the Earth in two if it is not stopped in time.

LOVED this movie as a kid, it stuck with me for decades. And looking at this now, the effects were very well-done for the time period.
"A man, his wife, and the man she used to love" living together underground. What could possibly go wrong?

Ya know? That was a pretty impressive explosion at :46. Even many explosions in today's movies don't rival that one.

That because it used real explosives, not cartoon CGI
I've loved this movie since I saw it on the Big Screen in 1965. Incredible special effects for 1964.
1:25 - Actually, the "terror" is quite rational.
"Do you hear that! That's the sound of this planet screaming out its rage!"

Hello, we have a Dr Who fan!
I remember seeing the film with my dad when I was a kid in a cinema at Torquay while on holiday & found it great. When we came out of the cinema there was a storm & a tree had blown down so I thought the world was coming to an end, my dad laughed.
I honestly don't think anyone on earth would have survived a Dasaster like this if it were real.
Excellent. ♡ T.E.N.
This was actually a pretty clever science fiction film
Not exactly. The earth doesn't split in two. The crack begins but at a certain point they managed to get it to reverse direction and when it returns to it's starting point a huge piece of the earth flies out of the atmosphere and we end up with a second moon.
I wonder if Roland Emmerich could make a remake of this.
I love this film, it has everything a B movie feature should have. destination moon is another incredible film, it looks cheap and clumsy nowadays but it was filmed in 1950 before man went into space so all the science dialogue parts were all a best guess about what to expect on a journey to the moon. Plus its in that insane technicolor which always looks trippy if your a stoner anyway.
The 1970 Dr Who 7 part serial Inferno i believe took ellimants from this film
This could happen; they are talking about it right now!
one of my fav films
showed all the best bits
This is practically the whole movie :)
One of my favourite movies growing up
What's funny about this movie is that right around the time it came out was when geologists came up with plate tectonics among other things, pretty much debunking the idea of the Earth ever splitting in two from a crack in its crust.

The U S Military were devising a plan in the 1950s to BLOW UP The Moon with nuclear warheads to scare the Russians.. Yes! BLOW UP The Moon FFS!
I remember watching this on Saturday afternoon sci-fi theater as a kid.
Amazing! I didn't realise how long Americans have been obsessed with cataclysmic destruction, and end of the world scenarios. Truly a psychotic collective obsession the Americans have with disaster. The list of films they've made with disasters and end of the world scenarios is endless!.
Doesn't this movie end in the creation of another moon orbiting the Earth? I seem to remember that watching this film as a little kid. Of course, it seems like it's been 100 years since viewing it, so my memory may be off. But I vaguely recall this weird shot of the surviving humans looking up through a chasm somewhere to see the second moon forming in the smokey sky. If that's accurate, and not just a dream I had, that's a pretty dramatic ending.
@Kinkoyaburi Well that's your opinion. I happened to enjoy them, especially 2012.
Fell in live with when I saw it for the first time...and I was only 4. Got the DVD and pre-ordered in Blue-Ray thru Amazon.
Gradevole pellicola, voto 8.
I love trailers that pretty much give away the entire plot of a movie!
Classic today.
Listening to the scientific jargon including caps, shafts and so forth along with total abandonment to logic because of money, I hope the BP incident in the Gulf of Mexico does not have a similar conclusion as this movie! If you look under Google videos, you can see the entire movie.
Great Movie the crack is on DVD now for the world.
been trying to get a copy of this forever...guess it's way out of print...
The world is doomed as this cheesy disaster movie depicts the earth about to crack... people's minds.
@Kinkoyaburi What's wrong with that?
Yea- the Core was an awesome movie, made in the style of the older disaster movies. It reminded me of a revised updated version of '' Journey to the center of the Earth ''.
@CoolKidAndNarutoFan No, I think we're even worse.
Trailers used to be so odd. If you haven’t seen it, look up the trailer for Deliverance. It’s awful.
@DoctorOblivion1 What do you mean by that?
Just read on Facebook that they re planning a similar experiment!!!!
Back when Hollywood had something called IMAGINATION & made GOOD movies!
I remember seeing this on TV as a kid---and HATING IT! Maybe I should give it another chance.

Aldo Stevenson ya i mean its so stupid firing a h bomb into the center of the earth
Scott Pruitt's EPA at work...
@lesorciercalifornien what if the crack went all the way around and broke you in two
Where can I find the whole movie? HELP!!!!!!
Uh, no, The Core was NOT a remake of this. For one thing [spoiler!] the Earth splits in two at the end of Crack in the World. And they never take a vehicle into the Earth.
Yeah it has flaws won't get into that debate, but it is a good caution of a movie.
Thats pretty good train wreck scene
My bad. I thought this was a documentary on Detroit.
"Suppose the Macedo trench splits open under the ocean? A crack a thousand miles long, bringing superheated magma in contact with the ocean... Earthquakes, tidal waves, mass destruction on an apocalyptic scale! "
This was remade in to the Core starring Hillary Swank...it also flopped.
Fracking
Dana Andrews is pretty hunky for a supposedly elderly, dying scientist who’s in danger of losing his wife to a younger man.
@vgmaster9 shhhhh...don't say that he may hear you
Life imitating art?... or art imitating life?... ?
@vgmaster9 His movies usually suck extremely much. If he remakes this which obviously sucks it will be even worse.
Now i understand where that disaster of a movie flop-2012 came from. I LIKE THIS MOVIE A LOT BETTER, at least there was a good script, not a special effects love affair !!!!
This is what happened to Krypton.
@gennx30 FOR REAL!?!?! I hope you're telling the truth, because I've been wanting to get a decent copy of this for ages. I think they (hopefully PARAMOUNT) is probably doing this to cash in on "2012". But, wow!! I first saw it on TV back in '69 (I was 6!!), and have seen it all thru the '70s--then they stopped airing it. "Crack In The World"--DVD....finally.
Google "Determined scientists vow to drill into Earth's mantle" just like in this movie...

Haven’t they seen this movie?!? 🙄
Oh brother; "Life imitating art" as CO2 sequestration ‘splodes in Saskatchewan as CO2 bubbles to the surface killing cows and pets (per story 1-11-2011 in the Winnipeg Free Press titled: "Carbon injected underground now leaking, Saskatchewan farmer's study says")! .
wtf how did i end up watchin this? i was wathcin feet like 2 mins ago wtf lol
Wow, 2012 in 1964!
@kendo4242 Ha! I was just thinking the same thing.
No "fracking" for gas/oil huh?
Was this movie funded by the fossil fuel industry.
Wicked bad movie about wicked bad fracking. These dudes frack the whole fracking planet, for crissakes. In 1964! Crack, frack & smack the whole damned world! The Hollywood ending was for the censors, however & It sucked. The real thing is much slower & happening right now, probably closer to your own backyard than you'd like to think. No kisses & hugs at the end.
yeah HAARP could do this
It's OK. Washington DC is on the half that spins off into oblivion. YEA

Cool!
Yes it created a second moon. And just a thought for some earlier posts, why don't you other wackos put your political ramblings on a political website and leave these pages for people who enjoy movies and have real questions and coments. I tire of the nonsense, stupidity, and vitriol. Oh, and by the way. When cursing at me for pointing out your inanity, please censor yourself. Anyone can get their point across without vulgarity. Besides my children and many others have access to these pages
Bloody awful. Not impressed.
The ultimate idiotic attempt at fracking.

It should be a warning about fracking & tampering with nature.
