Crab Snare Fishing for HUGE Rock Crabs in Half Moon Bay, Jetty

Спорт

Dungeness Crab season starts soon! This was a warm up :)
So it was brought to my attention that you MAY INDEED need a license to fish on jetties. It depends on what jetty, and where that jetty falls in on the law books, so double check if you're fishing on a jetty without a license! Better yet, just get a license so you can fish at the beach too ;)
Crabbing!

    Wow, didn't expect this video to hit me so hard. My recently deceased father used to work at Pillar Point as a harbor patrolman. I used to walk along the jetty when I was a kid... Memories. :')

    2015 video but it doesn't matter at all. Matt does make a nice crab snare!!! Most snares sell for $15.00 these days so if Matt is still selling them for $12.50 buy a bunch of them!!! A lot of people toss back the Red Rocks but I really enjoy catching them and they taste just fine to me. Like most people, I am after the Dungeness too but I'm thinking of going to the north side and filling a bucket this season. As always, a great video!!!

    I just checked Fish and Wildlife regulations and the way I read it you DO need a fishing license if fishing off a jetty or seawall that is open to the public. By the way, great video!!!

  • @FishermansLife

    @FishermansLife

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Sir Fur Thanks for the comment. You got me to look into that rule further. Seems a bit unclear for pillar point because it is the most seaward protective boundary of an ocean harbor, is open to the public + meets some other criteria, but I don't know if it would fall into the category of "being built for the primary purpose of angling." Hmmm I wouldn't want to put misinformation out there so I'll add an annotation and a note in the description. Thanks for bringing that to everyone's attention!!

    +Matts Withans I stand corrected! My mistake... I found the answer on the website for California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife. It is as follows; Q. Where and when can I fish in the ocean without a fishing license? A. Anyone 16 years and older must have a fishing license to take any kind of fish, mollusk, invertebrate or crustacean in California, except for persons angling from a public pier for non-commercial purposes in ocean or bay waters. A public pier is defined in the sport fishing regulations as a publicly owned man-made structure that has the following characteristics: is connected, above the mean high tide, to the main coastline or to the land mass of a named and charted natural island; has unrestricted free access for the general public; and has been built or currently functions for the primary purpose of allowing angling access to ocean waters. Additionally, publicly owned jetties or breakwaters that are connected to land, as described above, that have free unrestricted access for the general public and whose purpose it is to form the most seaward protective boundary of an ocean harbor ARE PUBLIC PIERS. Jetties, breakwaters, promenades, sea walls, moles, docks, linings, barriers and other structures that are not the most seaward protective boundary of an ocean harbor, are not public piers. Thank you again for a great video and my apologies for not verifying this before posting a comment... SirFur Dave

    I loved Half Moon Bay. I almost ditched work to go out on a fishing boat but never even touched the water. I hope I find an excuse to go back especially since I don't need a CA license to fish off the rocks. I always wanted to try a poke pole and that's pretty easy to manage on a work trip.

    +stufdptato Thanks! There's a dirt parking lot and you have to walk about 3/4 mile to get to the north jetty. It's by Mavericks. Great spot for the off season ;) And you're totally right about Nov 7th. I got the Saturday right, but the number wrong. I will add an annotation so people don't get confused.
