Crab Snare Fishing for HUGE Rock Crabs in Half Moon Bay, Jetty
Спорт
Dungeness Crab season starts soon! This was a warm up :)
So it was brought to my attention that you MAY INDEED need a license to fish on jetties. It depends on what jetty, and where that jetty falls in on the law books, so double check if you're fishing on a jetty without a license! Better yet, just get a license so you can fish at the beach too ;)
Crabbing!

Wow, didn't expect this video to hit me so hard. My recently deceased father used to work at Pillar Point as a harbor patrolman. I used to walk along the jetty when I was a kid... Memories. :')

Always a great day when you come me across a Fisherman's Life gem that you haven't seen before.
Haha these crabs look like they came out of the ocean already seasoned with Old Bay 😂🦀🦀🦀
never knew there was such a thing as a crab snare, looks like something I'm going to try, thanks for posting.
Thank you for your DIY!!! Best one on KZread! Very instructional and easy to follow.

Your channel has grown a lot since this video. Keep up the great work. Love rewatching them too
Thanks for posting! I could get into this. I grew up in Daly City and visited Half Moon Bay all the time, at first with my parents and later with my friends. I live in TN now or I would definitely be crabbing!
Holy hell dude your videos have improved so much since this, I'm so glad i stumbled upon your channel I cannot wait to see you grow even further
Dude, I LOVE your videos. They really help with my depression and ptsd. So calming for me to watch when I can’t get out there myself. Thank you so much.

I love pillar point. the fog horn is so relaxing I can hear it when I'm at my grandmas house at moss beach
100% If I lived where I could fish crabs, I would buy those snares from you. Because crab is so delicious. Your living the dream bro!

great video bro! gonna have to hit that spot soon. keep em coming!
Man... memories of that spot! Would love to see what else you can catch off those rocks. Beautiful location.
Amazing vids man loving them!
Ive never caught or eaten freshly fished crap of ne thing. This now makes my bucket list of things to do. I live in western canada, maybe bc or pei would have something i could do along these lines. I love the video, and have always believed what is normal and standard for one person, is likely rare and exotic to someone else of a different location. keep living the life man

+Steven Lewis Thanks brother. I know dungeness crab are a big thing in Canada. If you can get out to the west coast it's worth a shot!
Hopefully we see you tomorrow. Going to half moon bay tomorrow too catch some crabs. Wish us luck!
You're lucky!!! I would love to go crabbing with you!!!
hey Mat, when I was a kid and teenager, before they built the breakwater we we to Princeton and ate at Hazels. we played on the beach. brings back great memories.
that was a great video. thank you for it.
damn . that crab look cool. like a blazing crab!
2015 video but it doesn't matter at all. Matt does make a nice crab snare!!! Most snares sell for $15.00 these days so if Matt is still selling them for $12.50 buy a bunch of them!!! A lot of people toss back the Red Rocks but I really enjoy catching them and they taste just fine to me. Like most people, I am after the Dungeness too but I'm thinking of going to the north side and filling a bucket this season. As always, a great video!!!
Good job and thanks for the snares
Dude this is cool. Your snares are awesome. I want to try this and cook some of them babies up
Oh my goodness! I've been watching your videos, loving them by the way, and I have been wondering the areas you are fishing and it turns out I live about 30-40 minutes from half moon bay! Great sea food up there
You make good videos bro keep up the good work hope to see you fishing one day 💯💯
nice catch man, can"t wait for dungeness season

I just checked Fish and Wildlife regulations and the way I read it you DO need a fishing license if fishing off a jetty or seawall that is open to the public. By the way, great video!!!
@FishermansLife
8 жыл бұрын
+Sir Fur Thanks for the comment. You got me to look into that rule further. Seems a bit unclear for pillar point because it is the most seaward protective boundary of an ocean harbor, is open to the public + meets some other criteria, but I don't know if it would fall into the category of "being built for the primary purpose of angling." Hmmm I wouldn't want to put misinformation out there so I'll add an annotation and a note in the description. Thanks for bringing that to everyone's attention!!

+Matts Withans I stand corrected! My mistake... I found the answer on the website for California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife. It is as follows; Q. Where and when can I fish in the ocean without a fishing license? A. Anyone 16 years and older must have a fishing license to take any kind of fish, mollusk, invertebrate or crustacean in California, except for persons angling from a public pier for non-commercial purposes in ocean or bay waters. A public pier is defined in the sport fishing regulations as a publicly owned man-made structure that has the following characteristics: is connected, above the mean high tide, to the main coastline or to the land mass of a named and charted natural island; has unrestricted free access for the general public; and has been built or currently functions for the primary purpose of allowing angling access to ocean waters. Additionally, publicly owned jetties or breakwaters that are connected to land, as described above, that have free unrestricted access for the general public and whose purpose it is to form the most seaward protective boundary of an ocean harbor ARE PUBLIC PIERS. Jetties, breakwaters, promenades, sea walls, moles, docks, linings, barriers and other structures that are not the most seaward protective boundary of an ocean harbor, are not public piers. Thank you again for a great video and my apologies for not verifying this before posting a comment... SirFur Dave
I loved Half Moon Bay. I almost ditched work to go out on a fishing boat but never even touched the water. I hope I find an excuse to go back especially since I don't need a CA license to fish off the rocks. I always wanted to try a poke pole and that's pretty easy to manage on a work trip.

Yeah, if you fish on the harbor side it doesn't need to be low tide or anything. Minimal equipment to bring out too
Thanks for posting a map location along with requirement for crabbing/ fishing. Most don’t include any of that.
I love you and I think that you are the best fisherman in the world Im 10 yaers old and you inspire me to fish more I live in new jersy I fish for striped bass blue fish flounder sea bass and fresh water fish like I sed it is fun and inspiring love you amd wish you luck(: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rock crabs's my favourite.
Love your vids dude, makes it better that you're in BC too!
Sweet vid! I toss rockies back at the Pacifica Pier, cause they're usually a lot smaller than these. Yours are huge! Where do you park for the North Jetty? btw, dungie season opens Nov 7, not the 6th (wouldn't want anyone to get ticketed the day before). Can't wait!
@FishermansLife
8 жыл бұрын
+stufdptato Thanks! There's a dirt parking lot and you have to walk about 3/4 mile to get to the north jetty. It's by Mavericks. Great spot for the off season ;) And you're totally right about Nov 7th. I got the Saturday right, but the number wrong. I will add an annotation so people don't get confused. Thanks for pointing that out!!
kelp crab: "what's up?"
I should go there so I get the full experience.
Hittin em with the plug
Nice!
Is the no-license-on-jetty a CA reg? I never heard of this out here on the Least Coast.
Hey Matt, great vid. I'm going to try crab fishing this year, learned a lot from your vids! Have you personally crab fished the south jetty and caught dungies? I'm in San Jose, so it is a bit of a drive up to Pacifica pier and to Bakers beach, HMB is a bit closer. Thanks
@FishermansLife
8 жыл бұрын
I haven't personally caught dungies there but I've seen several videos of people catching them from there. Also at the bait ship by the docks of the south jetty they also told me people regularly go there to catch dungeness crabs.

+Matts Withans, Matt, thanks for the info. Did you see piece of news regarding the dungie season? www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_29059918/dungeness-crab:-toxic-algae-could-delay-northern-california-season
@FishermansLife

Yeah I saw that yesterday. Man that would be bad news. Says it could be delayed weeks or even the whole season. I wonder if rock crabs are effected by the algae too...sounds like some severe symptoms
@fishandrib8672

+Matts Withans Rock crabs are affected too. See www.cdph.ca.gov/Pages/NR15-080.aspx "The July 3 health advisory for Santa Cruz, Monterey, and Santa Barbara counties remains in effect and warns consumers not to eat [...] commercially or recreationally caught crabs taken from these counties. "

haha i used to surf mavericks and fish martins beach rt there !
Man, I and my dad went fishing with a trap on the the Chrissy field pier and on the first throw we got one big rock crab. Following were small ones we threw back. I boiled and tried it. I have to say it was a pain to get the meat out. It’s twice as strong as Dungeness. Also tasted too fishy and some iodine flavor.
It must smell beautiful there
Awesome fishing videos u made. Where is a good place to catch Trout?
you have a mazing vids
can i use a crab trab on these jetty?
@josiahropp3525

No it will get stuck on the rocks
what kind of line you using matt and how heavy?
Man I wish the laws were like that in Oregon. You need a license to fish anywhere. And a special license to fish some places.
So im outa state would i be able to fish off a jetty without any license?
Did you stop selling snares? Love your videos.
I miss crabbing there -- totally need to open a weekend to visit the South Jetty. See anybody catch Lingcod? North Jetty is known for them.
