Coyote | Trickster & Shapeshifter

Appearing in the stories of dozens of different Native American cultures, Coyote is a supernatural figure whose actions drastically alter the world, no matter how slight in nature. He can be a hero, a villain, a fool, a genius, a benefactor, but is most often a trickster. Like most tricksters, Coyote often acts in his own best interest, though sometimes acts for the benefit of others, undercutting or outright rolling over those who may get in his way. But like his real life counterpart, Coyote is never always as he seems!

Yeah, but unfortunately the coyote was way too small to take advantage of the catch.

"Okay, wiseguys. You obviously wanted me to catch him. Now what do I do?" -Wile E. Coyote. I may have messed that up a little, but the point still stands.

I got an alert for a second reply, which quoted his sign, but I can't see the comment or even see the alert anymore. Stupid KZread. I even tried switching from Top to Newest comments, which often works.

I got the same alert. It's possible that the commenter deleted the post for whatever reason. Happens on occasion. I'm actually guessing that to be the case since I'm seeing your post along with the alert for 2 replies to your initial comment.

Scratch that last. I'm looking back at the replies section and realizing that I'm actually only seeing my first response, although the "down arrow 4 replies" is showing, and every time I click on it only shows my one first reply. Don't even know if you'll see this.

Coyote is probably my favorite mythical figure if I absolutely had to choose just one. This video is excellent, and I'd be very glad to see more episodes about Coyote. There is so much variety in the stories told about him!

Living in Southern California, I've seen my fair share of coyotes wandering around in, sometimes, the most unlikely of places. And the sounds of a pack of coyotes on a hunt is kind of eerie even if you do know what the sound is. Lastly, one of the reasons that Wile E. Coyote is my favorite Looney Tunes character is because he is a "genius" coyote who absolutely never gives up despite endless setbacks, pain, and disappointment.

Coyote is among my most favorite of cultural figures and one of the most famous examples of the trickster archetype I wrote a report on Native American mythology for an assignment once, and mentioned Coyote, including a tale where he entered a cave and inside found many people half-starved and and trapped becuz the cave was actually the mouth of a giant and they (Coyote and thz people) were trapped in the giant's belly. Coyote helped the people by first telling them to cut the fatty flesh of the stomach walls for them to eat, causing the giant great pain so he would open his mouth. Coyote then led the people out to their freedom, thus Coyote had gotten the best of the giant while saving these people

As part of my coursework, I researched and wrote about Native American mythology and the legendary figure of Coyote. One of his adventures was entering a cave and discovering a group of people stuck there, half-starved and ensnared by the giant's mouth. He was in excruciating pain from opening his jaw since Coyote instructed the people to consume the fatty tissue off the stomach walls. After guiding the people to safety, Coyote vanquished the giant and set them free.

Every culture on the face of the Earth have legends of Were Creatures. What sets Native American Were Creatures is not only could people transform into animals, animals could transform into people. Hence the story of the Owl man who wanted to marry a human woman. He had difficulty in convincing her father to concent because owls were considered unlucky. Then there was the story of (either Apache or Comanche) man whose wife was kidnapped by a Buffalo turned human.
