Amarok | The Great Wolf

Inuit mythology tells of a creature, or race of creatures, that takes the form of a gigantic wolf with piercing eyes and a howl like a blizzard....the amarok! The amarok is said to be the keeper of the natural balance, mediating between hunter and prey. It is also said to be an unmatched hunter in its own right, consuming scores of caribou in the blink of an eye, as well as any human foolish enough to wander the tundra after dark. Amaroks appear in many stories of Inuit mythology and folklore, acting as healer, monster, and a bridge between the physical and spirit realms!

The story of the Boy and the Amarok caused my youngest nephews to try and wrestle me. For refrence, I'm 5 foot eleven and their about almost a yard tall each at age 4 and 3. I just kinda shake my head at them, and put them in air jail until they simmer down. XD

The Amarok is among my most favorite of all mythical creatures, and featured in my own fantasy book, which I hope to turn into a series.

I love wolves in folklore and mythology but I never knew about the Amarok. I love the duality of their character in these stories! The idea of them taking revenge by stealing a man's spirit instead of just killing him through brute force is exceptionally chilling. 😱 Glad to have you back and can't wait to see what's around the corner for this channel! ❤🐺❤🐺❤🐺

The Amarok is one of my favorite wolf based creatures! Thank you for the video. The TTRP Pathfinder has them in it as magical (and intelligent) beasts. This gives me a better idea how to run them.

I'm so glad you are still in business, and showing the legend of one of my favorite cryptids, thank you. I always love the stories of the Demon Wolf of Alaska, and I'm not even from there. It's always amazing on how you dig up so much of these lores and legends. How do you even find these fantastic, detailed stories in the first place? I just love these legendary stories and I love your videos with them.

Not all Europeans viewed wolves negatively, we have the Roman legend of Romulus and Remus raised by the kindly she wolf and in Irish traditional culture the wold was viewed in a similar nature to Native Americans in a very spiritual way, it was called Mactera which means son of the land.
