So a person literally watches the coyote creep that direction and still lets the kids go near the area by themselves?

Until we have the audio we don't know what she said. Most likely She warned the family about seeing a fox/coyote that side. You can see her pointing towards the kids before the Coyote bolts towards the toddler. Kids were just disporting around and obviously did not understand what she said. They got to the backyard even before their parents could comprehend what the woman was saying.

I just watched the video a second time. Yeah, there's the adult guy. What the hell? But again, this has to do with human arrogance. We think that no wild animal would dare harm a human! Coyotes are usually too small to take down adult humans, but they will definitely target small children and also pets, especially cats and small dogs. Interestingly enough, I hear that coyotes usually have a hard time with bobcats. It's not because bobcats are that big. I think most of them are between 20 and 30 pounds. But bobcats are very strong, sharp teeth, and have even sharper claws. And they are extremely aggressive cats. Not big cats, but they have that "big cat" attitude. Of course a mountain lion will always be able to kick a coyote's ass without too much trouble unless of course the mountain lion is very sick, dying, elderly, arthritic, etc. I feel sorry for wild animals. They have a hard life. Maybe being part of a herd or pack or clan or family makes things a little easier, but even then most wild animals have pretty short, difficult lives. Oh well. I hope things are better in heaven... if there is such a place? I don't know.

I’ve lived in two neighborhoods, in the last 40 years, and both had coyotes. Never heard of a person being attacked (and I’ve always read the paper every day, and watched the news, and when things happen there’s word of mouth). My brother and I often walked right past them on the trail when we were in elementary school. I’m not saying you should let little kids play near coyotes, but attacks on humans are extremely rare. They have a right to co-exist with us- especially since we’ve built up and destroyed so much of their habitat.

while we all hope the brother would stay by the sister's side and protect her, there is nothing much the brother can do except scream at the coyote. If the brother carry the sister and run back, he would show his backside to the coyote. Which would make the coyote attack the brother. While the brother seems like a coward for leaving his sister behind, at least he went back and scream for the adults to come who would have been larger than the kids to scare the coyote away.

You can see coyote creeping close to the fence from 0:45 - probably heard the children’s voices. Woman at the corner of house seems to be trying to warn the father that she’d seen the coyote: but that only stops him from following his kids into the garden. And because he was looking at her, he only sees the coyote after it had knocked the little girl down.

I’ve lived in neighborhoods with coyotes for 40 years. Never heard of an attack on a person (and if it happened, it would be on the news and talked about through word of mouth). They’re shy and mind their business. Never cause problems, unless someone is dumb enough to leave a chicken or chihuahua alone in the yard- in which case, it’s the person’s fault. But attacks on people are extremely rare.

Back in the old days folks had dogs that ran loose and this type of thing NEVER happened. Now groundhogs dig everywhere and folks can't have a garden because of deer. Coyotes are starting to attack people all because of leash laws. I would rather take my chances and my grandchildren's chances with a good ole dog than a coyote. LOL!!! FREE THE DOGS

How about you put up a fence and keep your dog inside it? Then you wouldn't have to worry about coyotes and groundhogs. If this attack was an aggressive domesticated dog. It wouldn't have bit and ran off. It would have done way more damage to the child. There are far more children attacked by "free range" dogs that Coyotes. So nah. Your Utopia would turn into a flee infested shithole.

that is just fucking dumb. try standing your ground against a 100lb rottie or akita vs a coyote and enjoy living the rest of your life as a handicapped and disfigured person.

Friends came home drunk, let their $10,000 Frenchie dog outside to pee, while they went in to pee, heard it screaming out front, ran out and 3 coyotes were carrying it down the street. The screams were heinous if you know Frenchie dogs . They tried to drive after them but by the time they got to the end of street they were gone with their meal. 😶
