I used to live in Mexico and there were stray cats and dogs everywhere. Anyway, one day I'm up on my balcony and this cat comes tearing around the corner and there are 2 dogs in hot pursuit. The cat gets half-way down the block and I guess he just decided he was tired of running. He jumped in the air and landed facing the dogs and stopped. The dogs stopped. The dogs looked very confused. The cat just stood there staring at the dogs. The dogs started to whimper and after a few seconds, turned around and walked away. One of the craziest things I've ever seen.

That cat had a better understanding of what "fight or flight" really is about. Yes, it's commendable to stand your ground when facing an adversary, heck, even brave, especially when you're going up against someone bigger than you. That being said, it was also 'wise' enough to know when to retreat. I've seen countless people try to play tough, they end up getting their ass handed to them in the end. That cat had a better survival instinct than most humans, running away from the fight when it knew it couldn't win.
