I recently started doing that. I've been using shampoo everyday (sometimes twice a day) for the past 3-4 years but I feel like I'm mistreating my hair with so much shampoo. Now I use regular conditioner daily and shampoo only once a week. Soon I'll switch to sulfate free shampoo. My hair feels softer since I started this new routine.

I stopped co washing due to build up, and my hair had this sour smell, because I workout a lot and sweat in my hair way too much. I also noticed hair breakage. Co washing to me is like applying deodorant and just changing clothes without showering. Your scalp needs cleansing and remove product build up. I just deep condition my hair weekly and use a creamy leave-in conditioner.

Thanks legit I’m a similar situation I’ve been using a ACV clarifier + cowash but my hair density has been decreasing and even starting to notice bald spots and after my last wash last week I’m convinced it’s the products. Got scared of touching my hair lol but I suspect it’s the cowash. I’ve been using As I Am but I’m thinking of going back to shampoo + conditioner but want to find one that doesn’t strip my hair too much. Main reason why I transitioned to cowash :/ no bueno

I wanted to warn you not to be too rough with the scalp massager. I was using one for a while and it felt nice at first but overtime I started getting scars on my head and scratches that would itch. I only noticed this after I sprayed apple cider vinegar on it one day (to help the itchiness) and it burned on contact. Once I stopped scratching and using the scalp massager it got better.

I'm late to the party but co-washing is a funny thing. First of all the definition is different depending on who you talk to. If you're talking to Anthony Dickey of hair rules, he says that you're supposed to rinse your hair really well, use air conditioner to add moisture and soften the hair, rinse the conditioner out and then add your product to style. And tjis is dobe daily on hair that is type 4. For others, washing your scalp with conditioner or a conditioning cleanser 1-3 times a week is co-washing. When I did co-washing according to the Dickey method, I experienced a lot of shedding and dryness, but my hair looked great. When I did the latter method,, my hair grew thick and long, but it was really hard to get the moisture in because of the styling products I used (although I didn't know that then). Since being back to shampoo my hair is thinner, but my products work better. Sigh

If you wash your hair weekly then try shampoo one week then the following week cowash, you have to shampoo more because you use creams and gels and your scalp sweats it needs cleansing a little more than your overall hair, and if you don’t want to shampoo try apple cider vinegar. Shampoo once then follow with apple cider vinegar, rub in your scalp as well put it down the length of your hair. Let it sit for 20 mins then rinse it out. Follow with a deep conditioner.

Deep condition with heat. Deep conditioning regularly really helps the moisture to last longer in the hair and make it have more elasticity. And all of that aids in healthier hair growth & length retention. I've seen my hair grow considerably now. Try to shoot for once a week, if you can. Once I started doing it, I saw a WORLD of difference, and if I ever got off the wagon I could tell immediately. Hair was dryer, had a harder time holding onto moisture, and was breaking more. Give it a try fam! It really helps 😍
