I think there is some confusion about the number of asymptomatic cases on the Diamond Princess cruise ship. From what I have read, the 47% figure comes from the percentage of infected individuals who had no symptoms at the time of testing. Statistical models were subsequently used to estimate the number who remained asymptomatic versus the number who were simply pre-symptomatic at the time of testing. The final percentage for true asymptomatic cases was estimated at just less than 20%.

This is excellent analysis and cross-referencing to explain asymptomatic ratios and the need to wear respiratory barriers in unventilated public places for both exhalers and inhalers to reduce viral load (and work toward herd immunity via more harmless infections?) Question: if 1/3 (Netherlands) to 1/2 (Singapore) of people appear to have T-cell based immune response already and authorities will accept vaccine efficacy as low as 50%, shouldn’t there be this T-cell screening before vaccinating up to half of the worlds billions unnecessarily with questionable half-effective serum?

Thank you. Fear of the unknown can be debilitating. Medcram and Dr Seheults clear and considered presentations has given me hope!!

That seems to explain why areas that had many infections early on now seem to have a very low infection rate, (New York etc) . Areas with a crude mortality rate of 600 - 800 deaths/ 1 million inhabitants ( New York was even higher) now seem to have very low daily death. That indicates a herd immunity even with only 20% testing positive to the antibodies.

The Nature article below suggests SARS (2003) T Cell reactivity is still present in patients today... 17 years later. Similar family of virus. It is clear that long term immunity is far more complex than just the IgG antibody testing which is the current focus of immunity duration.

Thank you Dr Seheult, I read this article Sunday. Could you address the lower risk factor amongst people who had pneumonia vaccine and polio vaccine - Mayo Clinic, mentioned in this article. Also the findings in the subgroup of children with asthma and allergy who showed less ACEII receptors for virus to attach too and how further stimulation of allergy diminished even more ACEII receptors being available.

1: I read that medical deaths certificates are only established in 20% of India's deaths so their numbers are questionable. 2: It is about time that we remember that antibodies are relatively easy to detect but only a small part of the immune response. In humans, we measure specific antibodies levels after Covid or vaccination because an experimental infectious challenge is unethical but decreasing levels after a few months may not mean lack of protection. Memory B and T-cells will survive and respond to future viral challenges. Non-specific immunity is also hard to evaluate but often effective. 3: While many explain the low or high incidence of Covid-19 in various countries by their public health interventions, I always thought that cross immunity to previous coronaviruses had to play a role in the very good numbers observed in China and neighboring countries irrespective of their very different strategies. I am looking forward to new studies exploring this topic as well as the correlation with Vit D levels. Dr Dumas

Every death statistic in every nation is questionable given most are adding all deaths with coronavirus present to coronavirus death statistics. Given over 90% of those deaths already suffer at least one other chronic disease it is fair to assume a good deal of deaths on the coronavirus death statistics do not have covid19 as cause of death on their death certificates. This is why we read and hear dies "with" novel coronavirus and not from covid19. One may ask why this game of semantics that inflate novel coronavirus mortality rates exists when it goes against previous medical protocols for gauging mortality rate of an infectious disease - certainly 10 leading epidemiologists did as this saga unfolded but were never given MSM platforms that even the behavioural scientists get that tell us we must close pubs if we open schools with zero science behind it..

@@Muckylittleme The chronic diseases generally present in patients of advanced age are not causes of death. By definition they are long term conditions one lives with, and written down on death certificates as contributing factors. Cause of death boxes go in reverse chronologic order e.g. : respiratory failure, duration 2 days. - as a consequence of pneumonia, duration one week. - secondary to SARS Cov2 infection, duration 3 weeks. Deaths with Covid are possible because the virus does not protect from motor vehicle accidents, cancer and the like. They should not be counted as Covid deaths but misclassifications are rare and statistically irrelevant. The numbers presented today by Dr Seheult are on the contrary most relevant. They suggest that areas that were most affected by the virus this spring have reached herd immunity. Overall mortality has been below seasonal average for about six weeks in Western Europe. Once a region reaches this late stage of the pandemics it may be time to return to normal life instead of trying to stamp out rare infections.

@@alaindumas1824 Thanks for the clarification but my intent was to state that covid19 is not cause of death for many novel coronavirus associated deaths where that death is registered on coronavirus death statistics which is a fact, certainly in the UK at least. Essentially I am agreeing with you and elaborating on the statistical data. I wasn't saying deaths were falsely being recorded on death certificates as covid19. Yes the death rates have indeed been below the 5 year average (all notably non epidemic years) here in the UK for several weeks and I have written myself many times on how this suggests we are reaching herd immunity. During 10 weeks of lock-down UK infection and death figures continued along at a steady pace until suddenly dropping off which is certainly not one would expect if lock-down were the contributing factor as the curve should have begun to flatten after 2 weeks and then to steadily but slowly fall from there. Actually if we look at the curves of infection and death rate where data is at all comparable we see similar curves regardless of policy except no lock-down may see a sharper spike and quicker decline. It seems clear that the epidemic spreads through a nations most vulnerable populations rapidly with high mortality for people already suffering chronic disease or otherwise compromised immunity with old age playing a large part but once this ready supply of factories has been shut down the virus finds it harder and harder to find hosts it can replicate in - basically herd immunity. Naturally there will continue to be bumps as local pockets occur where small populations were previously unexposed and these bumps can be presented as spikes or even a second wave by simply increasing testing in a particular area if one were so inclined and had control over media coverage. There is no doubt a significant part of populations that have adaptive immunity but I also feel that this virus is not especially dangerous to healthy individuals regardless.

@@Muckylittleme I agree. Years from now, our public debate during the Covid crisis will be ridiculed. We spent months arguing about insignificant factors like hydroxychloroquine, remdesivir, death with Covid, lockdowns, border closures, immunity assessed by antibody levels, politics and conspiracy theories while overlooking the fact that most of the population was already largely immune.

In Spain, it wasn't antibodies that were seen. They looked in samples of sewage and found viral RNA. So, it's not at all likely that they mistook some other coronavirus for SARS-cov-2. But, if the test was faulty, who knows. I haven't heard anything about this since that first report.

T-Cell response to SARS - CoV -2 =/= protective immunity/necessarily beneficial ;

Did I understand this correctly? Masks (for hamsters anyway) reduced the viral load of an exposure, and the minimal exposure thus allowed T-cell activation and thus creating an immunity able to reduce severity of disease?

Just a reminder that asymptomatic does not mean an absence of systemic disease pathogenesis. Recall 40% of the DP asymptomatics experienced likely permanent pulmonary damage as evidenced by radiological scans months after they "recovered".

It seems that the consequences of the covid on one individual depend on many more factors than we thought. Now we talk about initial viral load and crossed immunity. Now we understand that antibodies are not the perfect marker. I like this episode, it's well explained AND it brings hope ^^ I did an antibody test very recently because me and all of my colleagues had a caugh for 3 weeks in february. It was negative, but now I really get why this test didsn't give me any reliable info on my exposition/vulnerability to covid. Can we conclude that antibody tests for covid are currently not very useful ?

@Aron Toulouse From what we seem to currently understand antibody absence doesn't mean you are not immune. For the moment no case of reinfection has been documented yet. WHO talked specifically about that today during their press conference. No certainty but a glimpse of hope.

@Aron Toulouse I would suggest if its not too much work get another antibody test. The specificity of these tests(i.e percent of time it will correctly identify a positive case) can vary widely. There is a much smaller chance to get two back to back false negatives. Also what UNCHARTOUILLE said also needs to be kept in mind.

I shared the 5 min tests video with several friends, and was going to copy from that sharing with another person, and was surprised to see KZread has it censored away. Fortunately, still available on your site, and address successfully shared, but any seeking copy from the first sharing will think it removed. Others with the same problem?

Its monitored by bots: too much use of flagged keywords. "Cheap, Fast, Solution to Coronavirus, Easy, In your own home.......". Also, as a long term MedCram follower, the commenting audience was very different to normal. A lot of "anti-science" and more politics. Quite likely that it was flagged by some of them for "disagreeing with their world view". Overall I think it is better that KZread are erring on the side of safety rather than letting the scammers publish garbage. I am sure the video will be restored on review.

it would be nice if we could get our own t-cells and b-cells specific to sars-cov2 tested.

I really do try to stay away from hand sanitizers opting for hand washing often with castile soap. I do not use any antibacterial personal products or cleaning products for my home. I believe that balancing bacteria and viruses in a diluted form creates a healthy environment. It makes sense to me that a little exposure to a bacteria or virus might allow immunity to build without overwhelming the system. Thanks for this video and all your informative talks. I do agree with distancing and masking indoors or in a crowd as well if possible....Hopefully with a bit of time and luck we could get this virus down to reasonable levels. Funny if it would just disappear...and again great support for Dr Mina’s rapid test idea🖖

Hi Deborah, I wonder what do you mean by 'reasonable' levels?. Given that we in England have done nothing as an organised response, what has happened is entirely the result of the natural progression of the virus within the natural response of the population and the dramatic reduction in incoming infections from the travel industry, the level of infections is now down to just a few percent of what it was in April!, in fact if it continues at this level it could continue to bubble up here there and everywhere for at least the next four years!, only if the rate goes up to somewhere much closer to the threshold that our hospitals can manage will the overall duration of the disease come down below one year!. Social distancing and mask wearing are not enough to prevent spread, personal hygiene is still the most important issue and there is nothing intrinsically bad about crowds, only having infected people running around in them!. I hope that you can understand what I have tried to express, that this virus is nowhere near as infectious or dangerous as some would have you believe, already so many people that have had it and are now at least for the time being immune, those few people out in the community that have got it a being more sensible and considerate than the tourists were when they brought it in with them at the start!. all in all this rather pathetic disease has already peaked, there has been not one 'second' wave where it has reappeared in the same location anywhere in the world!, it has not completely finished yet but the worst of the virus is over, now we only have to deal with each other!, hopefully with as much resect and kindness as we can muster, each of us must trust each other to make our own judgements and regulate our own behaviour, in some ways we have an advantage, any success we achieve will be entirely of our own making, our government has lost the plot!.

Richard Harvey The virologists would have to determine the viral load levels as i have no idea what it would be. Dr Michael Mina might know more on this subject. From experience i know trying to become too hygienic usually backfires. Hence the comment about hand sanitizers. I do not think the virus will totally die out for some time if ever. I refer to reasonable levels meaning living a normal life again without all these measures. Like we live with the flu. And traveling again..... i dont know about you but as a senior I am not finding much joy living like this......

@@deborahhebblethwaite1865 Hi Deborah, thank you, you should understand that this virus and all its cousins can only exist within the body of an animal host, as and when we manage to stop getting ourselves infected at a rate fast enough for the virus to persist and spread it will expire, cease to exist, be gone. Of course none of us know exactly how long this will take but the way the rate of spread falls away so sharply every time there is cluster outbreak, as in Texas and Florida recently coupled with the fact that this PCR test we are so enamoured of becomes worse than useless as infection dwindle, mostly because people continue to carry enough of the viral RNA for weeks even months after they are no longer infectious and the fact that as the number of positive tests decreases while the number of tests increases the effect of the 'false positives' even at rates as low as one in one thousand becomes ever more significant as the ration of total tests to positives goes down, when there are ten thousand more tests than cases the false positives outnumber the real positives by ten to one!. I agree totally this current state of affairs is untenable, this is as good an opportunity as we should ever need to overhaul our social and personal behaviour to limit the spread and contraction of infectious diseases, the next virus to appear may well be really dangerous!. I do think that the reckless and extravagant behaviour and attitudes that have caused this virus to spread so fast and kill so many of the most vulnerable citizens simply to support the commercial interests of the travel and entertainment 'industries' will have to change, I suspect that the good old days of mass tourism are over!, we will have to set aside some of our desires and try to entertain ourselves and each other a bit more. I too have suffered for no good purpose and been unable to continue all my normal outdoor conservation activities at a time in my life when I still have the strength and energy. I am now back at 'work' on a few projects and finding comfort and joy, if at a somewhat reduced level.

News outlets copy each other. They made up their minds about all aspects of the disease in the first weeks and now just continue ,without realising that research continues! Why not write and refer them to this site andkeep on doing so. maybe some of them can read and not just cut and paste from A P or similar news agencies.

I think it is upto the average American to turn off news stations like I have. We should try to expose this information to as many people we can. I have been using this on sports sites to try and convince people why it is ok to have sports this year.

🇬🇧 Here in the UK too. People calling them muzzles. I don't go out much because so many people not wearing masks or socially distancing and I've got an underlying health condition. They are selfish. I'm sick of them politicising everything.
