I’m back to my musical roots this week with a rendition of I Don’t Know How to Love Him from Jesus Christ Superstar, an amazing rock musical by Andrew Lloyd Weber. Lyrics written by Tim Rice.
This album was on regular rotation in my household. I grew up loving the movie adaptation, especially the unconventional representation of the biblical characters. I’m not a religious person, but this song was always a favorite especially, the idea of Mary Magdalene being in love with Jesus.
Helen Reddy made the billboard charts with a rendition of this song, but I think Yvonne Elliman’s version is the best. Her emotion and effortless delivery makes the song sound so easy. But as I’ve found in learning it, it’s anything but easy.
