Courtney Hadwin: 13-Year-Old Golden Buzzer Winning Performance REACTION (America's Got Talent 2018)

Ойын-сауық

In this video, Andrew listens to 13-year-old (at the time) Courtney Hadwin on her head-turning/ golden buzzer earning first performance on America's Got Talent. She performs 'Hard to Handle' by the Black Crowes and gives us a sort of Janis Joplin rendition. Very surprising. Let's check it out!

Hi! Welcome to the wonderful world of Courtney. You have just come across the best thing to happen to music in decades. Courtney is beyond amazing. This video launched her to worldwide fame (it now has over 500M views and Courtney has over 2 billion views overall) and the only reason that she is not already a mega-star is because her new music and much more of her career has been on hold for nearly the last two years due to the Covid situation. As absolutely incredible as this performance is, you have only scratched the surface of what Courtney is truly capable of with her music. Not only is she the the best rocker around, but she is equally as great across so many genres including R&B, Soul, Funk and Ballads as well as Rock. She moves so seamlessly between genres, sometimes in the same song, without the least bit of loss of the fabulous quality of her music. I have not heard another artist any where close to Courtney's level of vocal talent and vocal versatility in my lifetime. But wait. There's so much more. You got a small taste here of how she dominates the stage as a performer. Wait until you see what Courtney can do when she has a full stage to work with. Beyond that, she is a dynamite guitarist and a powerhouse as a song writer. I think you can get some idea how excited we are about Courtney's music. She is re-introducing the world to a style of music that is based on passion, intensity and emotion that has long since been forgotten by anyone under 50 and what a beautiful site it is to behold. It won't be long before the world recognizes Courtney as the musical icon that she is. I've put a few links below as suggestions for your next Courtney reaction. First is her next performance on AGT. It too, is a 60's classic from James Brown that gives you an idea of how Courtney can dominate a full stage. The second is a popular record setting Country Hip Hop song that Courtney turns into a Rock anthem to show you her creativity and finally is a ballad that will highlight what a truly beautiful voice Courtney has. One suggestion. Whenever listening to a Courtney cover, always listen to the original first. Courtney's creativity is off the charts and any cover she does will never sound anything like the original. It's going to be a hell of a ride, so enjoy. You will not regret it if you like a rock girl beyond the ordinary. You have a lot to listen to. The rest of us who have been following her for a few years are waiting for her album to be released in the near future and it seems promising.

Courtney's influences are many. Little Richard, James Brown, Mick Jagger, Janis Joplin, Etta James, Aretha Franklin just to name a few. She 1st watch a video of James Brown on You Tube and tried to learn his moves. Although she couldn't do it like him she did her own version of it. (If you get to watching her on The Voice Kids UK you'll see how she shovels her feet similar to James Brown). She mentioned after watching that video, she went on to finding more old school artists and her music tastes moved on from their. Prior to this she was into more current music, but she was still very unique and different than today's singers. Always very passionate, who had this entertaining quality on stage and with powerful vocals. Can't wait to hear her upcoming new music.

This is a generational talent so do yourself a favor and check out some of her other performances. There are performances ranging from when she was 9 years old to present time. Expect your comment section to fill up with people showering praise on her and giving you more suggestions to listen to. She has a large and loyal fan base and from your reaction you owe it to yourself to check out some of her other amazing performances. Huge stage presence, amazing voice and devotion to her music make for a one of a kind entertainer.

Thanks for the reaction, NR! This song was written by Otis Redding in the late 60's and popularized in 1990 by the Black Crowes. In 2019, Courtney released a mini-album she called "Cover Sessions" with 4-cover songs which she recorded at age 14. You mentioned that you hoped she wasn't emulating anyone. Unless they're a tribute / cover band, singers normally don't EXACTLY emulate other singers. Like most athletes, actors, artists, etc. singers are a compilation of many of their heroes mixed in with that respective person's individual personality to make a cool, unique cocktail. Courtz is very similar with bits of James Brown, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Little Richard, etc. all in her singing / dancing style. If you react to the 4-songs from her "Cover Sessions" album, "SIGN OF THE TIMES", "SUCKER", "SOMEONE YOU LOVED" and "OLD TOWN ROAD", you will see just how versatile she is from singing soft ballads, to funk to rock. Here is the link to those 4-songs - kzread.info/dron/J0UIOws33p5zRE6Eul3rlw.html I look forward to your reactions to those four tunes. THANK YOU!!! 🙏

The original song was written and recorded by Otis Redding in 1968, btw. Black Crowes covered it in the 90's. Courtney purposely changed a few words in the lyrics to her liking. It's 4 years since Courtney did this audition. Aired on TV in May or June. She went on to be the favorite until the final vote count. Most everyone thought she'd win, even all the other contestants right up until the announcement on the last show. Lot's of disappointments. Too many reasons to discuss why she didn't win here. This comment is long enough. I'll just say AGT and Courtney got a lot of hate before the final votes due other fans from other artists feeling she got favoritism and that she wasn't so shy. Like many children that age, she was very shy around those she didn't know and in strange surroundings. This audition is still going strong and shocks most every person who sees it. The rest of her AGT performances that season are also very good and rock based. I should say she is very diverse in different genres even though she did mostly rock songs on her TV talent shows. Soon after that season ended she was signed, by Simon along with Arista Records which is owned by Sony Music. She went on to release a mini EP called "Cover Sessions" available on most digital services, and also on her YT channel. Those videos along with her TV talent show appearances from both seasons of AGT and The Voice Kids which was the year before are extremely entertaining. She's been trying to release her originals which are also spectacular, but she's had so many delays with COVID keeping her in lock down in the UK for the past 2 years. Only recently has she been moving forward again. Now with a new team she recently said. She also said she has recorded loads of songs. Unfortunately this COVID issue has caused many problems for everyone. Lots of changes have altered her release to the masses. Their are many videos of Courtney on YT, both studio quality, Talent show performances, along home recordings and earlier open mic contests when she was even younger. Some links below. Courtne''s YT channel kzread.infovideos Her Voice kids audition kzread.info/dash/bejne/k4mbzcdmhdzKiNI.html Her next AGT performance kzread.info/dash/bejne/lWuot5OcaNnWhps.html Too many more to list now. Hope you'll do another to really see what Courtney is all about. You'll be amazed at her singing abilities and stage presence. Her Cover Sessions EP will show how creative she is. She takes a hip hop/Country hit "Old Town Road" kzread.info/dash/bejne/k6Kr1sltc5O2hMY.html and turns it into a new rock song. And made a pop hit "Sucker" kzread.info/dash/bejne/m3pplcmkiZOwmbA.html into a funky/rock vibe. Along with 2 ballads "Someone you love" kzread.info/dash/bejne/l4Ztt9qco827g7A.html and "Sign of the times" kzread.info/dash/bejne/qm2EystvidXNYs4.html which have made many non fans who thought she was just a rock queen, become fans when they realized her exceptional vocals and range.

A very nice reaction to Courtney Hadwin who is destined to have the most fabulous career of any of the new Internet stars IMO! My only quibble is with the idea that Courtney was mimicking some other performer. That would be who? She has been compared to Janis Joplin, only because it has been so rare to have someone with such dynamic vocals and passion since Janis 50 years ago. Courtney is otherwise very different from JJ. Stars like James Brown and Michael Jackson had great stage presence and moves of their own, but totally unlike Courtney's. Most contemporary performers either just stand there or have choreographed moves with a team of backup dancers. Again, nothing like Courtney. Bottom line, Courtney then and now is her own unique self. That is why AGT judges were so blown away. Of course, all artists are influenced by bits of what came before, but that doesn't mean copying others. Elvis always did covers, but it was said by many that once he sang one his way, it became his. Courtney also has the ability to reinterpret a song without closely copying the original. She additionally is writing new songs, her album being delayed by the pandemic. Even without an original album her Internet videos have had over 2 billion total views worldwide. If you react to some of the suggestions from the other comments you can better see the diversity and the creative style that sets Courtney apart from other performers. She does have an original, "Pretty Little Thing", which can be found under AGT Champions 2019, demonstrating her stage dominance. I hope to see you react to more Courtney!

Well said Rick. Many want to compare her with JJ. But if they take the time to do a side by side comparison they will see the differences in vocals, stage presence, timbre and moves. The only real comparison is passion and energy. Courtney is more powerful and has a much lower, richer voice. Maybe it 's tough to notice her over all vocals with this performance as she was still finding her sound. I mean she can mimic Janis pretty close when she wants to, like when she did "Me and "Bobby Mcgee" kzread.info/dash/bejne/aH2cqNSggajUdtI.html or "Mercedes Benz" kzread.info/dash/bejne/e5qjyq5ppNatmpM.html I bet she can mimic anyone if she chooses. She rather make a cover her own today. Andrew will see this if he continues to watch more from Courtney. Not sure he will, but if he finds the time he will not regret it.

@@NaturalReactions Through the years, Courtney has listed many of her all-time favorites, Janis Joplin, James Brown, Little Richard, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, etc. "Mimic" or "emulate" are probably not the best words to use, unless one's reacting to a cover band or a tribute band of a specific artist. On the other hand, if anyone doesn't believe that Courtney has a little of each of these singers in her singing and/or dancing style, they are 100% WRONG.
