Couple's secret has changed, unknown to husband (I've Got a Secret 10/12/60)
Ойын-сауық
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Barry of Warren, Ohio, originally thought their secret would be that they have 18 children, but things have changed. "While my husband was at the races today ... I flew to Bermuda for lunch." Both of them are given tickets to go back there tomorrow.

Do you suppose that they had enough time to devote to each of eighteen children? Less importantly, do you think they had the financial resources to raise eighteen children the way they might want? The Duggar family was not the model that they wanted us to think, was it?

She may "deserved" a vacation (as anyone should) but she chose to have that many children.Even back then (when I was a child) I don't see how they could afford so many, with out financial help. And who takes care of the children when they go on a trip by themselves? Even back then, health insurance alone would have cost a lot, along with food, and housing.

I grew up in a family with 8 children. We didn't have enough money for food, shoes, and clothes. My elder brother had to look after the younger children. As I grew older it became my turn. Do I admire parents with large families? NO! My parents generation didn't use birth control but my generation did. Any religion that preaches against birth control needs to look at the population count. There are too many people on Earth and too many people living in poverty. Half of the people living in poverty are children; the same children that the Church demands that must be born. Not one of my siblings have more than 3 children and that includes me.
@lisahinton9682

@@Ozziecatsmom Can you REALLY not see why it would be anyone's business? Because people crank out kids faster than they can earn enough money to raise them, so you and I pay taxes that go into their care. (I just LOVE paying $19,000 per year for shitty health insurance so I can watch other people get FREE health insurance because they can't afford to pay for themselves and their spawn.) There is too much work for the parents so the older kids have to be parents to the younger kids. (Kids should be kids in their childhoods, not parental assistants!) There are already too many people on this poor, abused planet but selfish people who can't put on a condom or take a pill have to keep irresponsibly cranking out kid after kid, who grow up in poverty most of the time, and know no better, so they do the same and the cycle repeats. The stupid religions demand that all kids be born, but yet aren't there to pick up the pieces when the whole family turns to shit because everyone in the family is stressed financially, emotionally, health-wise, and socially. Yes, it IS INDEED all of our business.

And the Television Cameras add ten lbs (pounds) in weight looks wise!!... On the other hand, she sure would get enough exercise running around after all of the kids!! (not to mention ALL THAT late night exercise they both enjoyed so much!?!...) My grandad was one of twenty two kids!! (no tv channels in Ireland back then!!) It's not all that unusual here, up until about 40years ago.... My Dad also came from a rather large family; though it was positively tiny in comparison to ALL those Aunts and Uncles on both sides!! (Granny's {Grandad's wife} parents married rather late - in their mid thirties - but still managed to produce NINE girls!!) He's one of ten who survived to adulthood.... Granny had her first baby at 22 & her last one aged 48!! Thank God they were quite well off (my Grandfather was the single biggest building contractor in the country at the time - most/all of the others were subcontractors (aka "Subs") of his; or subs of his subs; or subs of subs of his subs, and so on: he built most of the Government Contract Jobs like the various hospitals, universities, schools, government buildings, state sponsored housing estates/apartment blocks, etc, etc...) Can you imagine trying to feed, clothe and educate all those kids if you weren't?!....
I thought her secret was that she’s pregnant again!

god it sucks we all have to live today.
I would NOT have guessed that secret.
In 1960, they could say “The Barrys are the parents of 18 kids,” and expect the audience response to be “Isn’t that adorable!” Now at least half the people (including me) would think “18 kids! What the hell is wrong with you?”

@@kirkreid743 sad what they have done to large family names. My family is 5 children, but my 2 older brothers are way older (like 21ish yrs and 24 years) then my twin and I then our little sister. But we girls where adopted. ANYWAY our family always felt very small, because all our friends growing up are large families. One is 7 Girls then 2 boys (and sadly the poor Mom and so many miscarriages after #4 they thought they would never be able to have any more, then she lost the last baby she would ever be able to have, and she knew that she was getting to up there) and then the other family ended up having 11 children. And lots of other families through the years. Guess it is just common in my area. So there is nothing yucky about it. And Is simply a heartwarming thought. To us when someone says they only have 2 kids we think "that's it?". Guess it just depends on the area you live. To me there is nothing more fun the a lot of little children running around having fun.

Henry Morgan has the weirdest nose
Thought the change the husband didn't know about was that it was going to be 19 kids.
If anyone notice that up until the 40s American families were large 6 children and up to help work the farms. After world war 2, families became smaller 5 or less. Then around the 90s up until now familes are 2 to 3 children. Lot is to due to ecomonics in the US. Japan now is noticing a shotage of population. The Muslim population on the other hand is getting larger. The US population today is growing because of the influx of illegals.
This would have been more effective if it had been in the dead of winter with snow on the ground here in New York.

@FallingGalaxy

That's what was expected of women back then over all. They didn't have a ton of choices back then. Even today plenty of religious beliefs cause people to think women exist to be baby making machines. The govt isn't helping with that since they're taking away as many abortion clinics as possible and women's health care in general, including giving companies the rights to decide not to give insurance for birth control pills over the company owner's 'deeply held personal beliefs.' If men had the babies, the opposite would be happening. There would be abortion clinics on every other corner, and birth control would be free, etc. But women are always treated as second class citizens.
