Most of their songs are about Military History (9 of 10 albums). Lead singer Joakim Broden and bassist Par Sundstrom(at the cross at the end) are the primary songwriters, and only original members left. This song is from the most recent album ,The War to End All Wars. Drummer Hannes van Dahl (joined 2014) is the first soldier out of the trenches. Guitarist Chris Rorland (j. 2012) is first out on the other side. Guitarist Tommy Johansson (j. 2016) had the battle field solo. The piano melody is a variation of Carol of the Bells. Joakim has said this song is actually a waltz. End credit vocals by Floor Jansen, Hannes' wife. This video was made by people that normally make movies. When the world stopped, so did moviemaking, so they had time for this. Ash mentioned her grandfather was a WW II bomber pilot. Sabaton's song "No Bullets Fly" is about a American B-17 bomber pilot and a German fighter pilot. Recommend watching the animated story video for that song.

The credits tell the audience the names of everybody who worked on which part to make the production a success. If you found yourself being part of a giant multi-million-dollar project and had the chance to get your name out there as being really great at what you did as part of that project, would you want your name to appear in credits? I feel this song, sung by a man so strongly, is apt in this case. This particular part of the war in the Trenches was almost all men harming other men for politics. I think he portrays such emotion singing about the small moment of humanity that happened. The armies passed "fratranizing with the enemy" rules after to avoid troops getting friendly. The credits give you the beautiful Drummers wife singing too, though - of course, Floor Jansen always makes it better. 😊

Sabaton 1916 - The average age of a British soldier on the Somme was 26 years and two months. The youngest known soldier to fight in the battle is believed to have been Sidney Lewis, who was only 13. The youngest British soldier killed in the battle is believed to have been 15. The oldest British soldier to die on the Somme was 68. At the end of the Accrington Pals' first major action - on the first day of the Battle of the Somme - at least 584 of the 720 troops who took part were killed, wounded or missing. Pte William Marshall, who survived the fighting, recalled many were "killed and wounded even before they could get out of their trenches" SABATON - 1916 (Official Music Video) kzread.info/dash/bejne/ept7ysqngaWXl9o.html

In the past, the Christmas trees used to be decorated with food like fruits or bread, especially in Europe. Even when I was a kid in the 90s my parents were decorating the tree with with sweets like candies and small chocolates. Basically, most of the decorations were edible and by the time the tree was withering and losing its leaves, most of the decorations were already eaten.

The album Carolus rex they had released during that time is about a part of Swedish history called the era of great power (stormaktstiden in Swedish) from a time when Sweden was a much bigger nation with ambitions of expanding. The album was released with both an Swedish and English version, the difference being that the Swedish one tells the story from our/a Swedish soldiers view while the English is more from an outsiders view. It is the Swedish version they played at that show so be sure the subtitles are on,I was at that show and all I can say is that you will not regret it.

Your grandfather being a Lancaster bomber pilot is very interesting, because my grandfather was the same but from the opposite side. He was a Heinkel HE 111 bomber pilot, stationed in France and flying bombing runs to Britain at the first half of the war. He was later transferred to the Eastern Front, bombing Soviet positions. Somewhere around his 390th mission he got shot down by the Soviets. He however was able to do a belly landing, with all of the crew surviving, although getting injured (he himself got his nose ripped off). They then were taken as POWs by the Soviets. They belonged to the few german soldiers who survived their imprisonment in the Soviet Union and returned home after the war. He never talked about his time in the prison camp.

The First World War was a clash that marked the transition from the small wars of sustaining the empire to the gargantuan wars of national/political survival. At the start (1914 - when this event occurred) it was imagined that the war would be short and many soldiers very much idealised notions of honour, heroism in the attack, and gentlemen's rules. In 1915 the Germans in desperation instituted gas as a weapon, air warfare emerges (including bombing civilians), in 1916 the flamethrower was used in numbers, mine warfare added elements of underground fighting (truly terrifying), the Germans also utilised submarine warfare, while the British navy blockaded and started starving the German's. The entire notion of the war changes, of what service means, of the importance of empire, of the sacrifice of literally tens of thousands of men, and the horror of the trenches. By the end of WW1, there has been a total and complete political and social upheaval across all of Europe and the US has emerged as a true world power. But it was a war of monarchies, empires, and the changes were largely internal (the fall of the Turkish, Russian, German, and Austro-Hungarian empires, and the crippling of the British and the French). In contrast, the Second World War was a conflict of ideologies and (through Nazi and Imperial Japanese influence) a war of racial and social extermination. By this time large-scale bombing (and of course in the end Nuclear weapons) of civilians was possible and widespread. The submarine and naval conflict was on an even larger scale. The result was that the impact on the entire population was much greater - while WW1 with gas and the multi-year trench stalemate was a more hideous experience for many individual combatants WW2 had a much vaster impact on the entire populations of nations and the fighting was (with good reason) framed as tolerant liberal democracy (good - with the ironic inclusion of the Stalinist Soviet Union) against evil (the Nazi's and Imperial Japan).

Also remember the christmas truce was in 1914, the first year of WW1, several places the truce more so you could bury the dead and the like, more than kicking a ball, but it varied from place to place and it was not all places that had a Christmas truce. The Cross at the End, does exit and is places in Ypres, Belgium.

World War I was also the war where in the beginning the people in Europe still believed in chivalry, which is why the Christmas Truce wasn't repeated. One year later too many had died and any thought about chivalry was gone. I'm singling out Europe for a reason. WWI is always cited as the war where war became more brutal because of the new weapons, but what is usually forgotten is that there was a war that could be seen as a warning of what was to come. The American Civil War. Some of the battles there already showed what the newer weapons were capable of and the next 40 years only added to the weapons development. It's difficult to remember how everything connects, but the last really big wars in Europe where the Napoleonic Wars which ended in 1815. All other European conflicts until WWI (99 years later) where either small or quick.

I'd live with scarlet Majors at the Base, And speed glum heroes up the line to death. You'd see me with my puffy petulant face, Guzzling and gulping in the best hotel, Reading the Roll of Honour. Sabaton did a cover of Motorhead's 1916. I have learnt more about ww1 from this band. I would like to recommend 1916, Lady of the dark (animated version), Night witches (animated version) and No bullets fly (animated version).

There are lots of examples of similar "agreements" trough frontlines. Like a same river could be used to fish, bathe and wash clothes without enemy fire by both armies. Also voluntary ceasefires during christimas days are reported. Not maybe solders shaking hands but still honoring the christmas peace and even singing together from trench to trench and burning fires. Obviously this happened during trench warfare, when they spend months and months next to enemy lines and its becomes normal day to day life.

Filming took place in the former military complex in Rožmitál pod Třemšín in the Czech Republic (Joakim Brodén has a Czech passport. his mother is CZECH) by a Czech team. Overall, the work on the clip took about three weeks. It was filmed over two days in actual trenches that were dug for filming purposes. sabaton was the first band to make me cry. and they still hold the score with 2 songs(the other and first song being no bullets fly), with lorna shore being at second place(with pain remains, if you want to call that being just one song rather than 3). and even though sabaton would not come up first when thinking about favorite bands, they are my most listended band for 2 years now(regarding my spotify year review) the humanity people can show in the most dire situations, and the willpower to just do what one thinks is right, to be strong and goodwilling despite fear and bad circumstances... in short words: just being a real hero... its just touching to me

Like you said Dave (16:54) "It's just rich people sending young people off to die". War is a racket, innit? In this case the war that could've been over way sooner was prolonged by "rich ppl" that we shall not mention who managed to drag the US into the war, resulting in unprecedented suffering and mass deaths. They got a "promise" in return, seemingly small change: the Balfour Declaration. These ppl also sponsored the "Russian" (not..) revolution, and prepped an Austrian puppet to play the opposition part and ultimately ensure the total destruction of Germany. The stage set for WW-II and in its aftermath the foundation of a state we shall not mention. The forces behind these industrialized wars were/are not just rich people of course. They control the monetary system itself. WW-I & II were about the destruction of European nations. Meanwhile the rich ppl also fostered the grand project of first the "League of Nations" which morphed into the "United Nations". Out with the old order based on different European nations/cultures, and in with the New. The horrifying wars they orchestrated prepared the hearts & minds for this new idea of a "Global Village" under the banner of "never again". Official history is peppered with these slogans to ensure ppl never learn about what really went on behind the scenes. Today's events are no different in that respect. BTW: That was Floor singing during the end credits. She's married to Hannes van Dahl, Sabaton's drummer. She's called the Valkyrie Goddess by her fans so her appearance on the battlefield here seems fitting. In old mythology, the Valkyries guided the souls of the fallen to Valhalla. Merry Christmas & Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘

For me the following is very important. Yes we were enemies, yes we did terrible things (both sides and not just in World War I, II). BUT we learned to get closer, we learned to talk and not fight and that's how we became friends. Today we are brothers and sisters who stand side by side (in every family there are disagreements). In my view, King Charles' speech in our Parliament made this very, very clear. Isn't it fantastic what you can achieve in such a short time? Yes, and the French are quite ok too ;) Merry Christmas

11:54 just to ad context.... this was in December of 1914 when war was still in its early stages. This was before zeppelin bomb raids, this was before Ypres, before Somme,.... there still wasn't a deep hatred for the enemy. Just confused men in a war they did not understand.

It happened in ww2 as well. Not for christmas, but there were cease fires... there is one between britain and germany, when they go out to gather their wounded caught in a crossfire as an example.. but for surefewer, considering the danger for tve regular german soldiers never knowing who is the SS stationed in their midst who would be their death if caught... Love Sabaton.. since well 2007

I would recommend Sabaton's cover of Motorhead's 1916 the song was inspired by the Battle Of The Somme Sabaton's video for 1916 Is a tribute to all soldiers who have fought and died In all the conflicts through human history and is also a tribute to Lemmy Kilmister this time stayed for the credits so you do not miss out on the Cello work of Tina Guo I would also recommend the animated story videos for No Bullets Fly, Night Witches, and Lady Of The Dark Sabaton also has its own history channel on youtube called Sabaton History which gives you the background behind the various songs 🖤💀🦇💣⚡️🤘
