First, thanks for all the videos on your channel, I could learn a lot of new things beyond the scope of German NDT certification courses. Now, the question: I am using a 7.5CCEV35-A15 probe by Olympus with curved wedges (AOD) in my scanner for small diameter piping welds and I have some problems with the couplant monitoring on it. The pipes vary in thickness from 7 to 11 millimeters, so I can't use the first backwall echo for monitoring as it disappears inside the pulse signal at the start of the A-scan. Instead I use the 2nd or the 3rd backwall echo, but even then it disappears sometimes while the S-Scan seems to look fine (geometry indications/notches clearly visible etc.). Other rather confusing signals also appear between where the backwall echoes should be. I have been using the default coupling monitor setup on the X3 and also played around with different focusing methods and using other numbers of elements than 8, all with unsatisfying results. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Does this technique even work under these conditions? I would really appreciate your take on this, thank you.

Have you tried focusing? Also, I find those little scanners notoriously difficult to keep good coupling and a stable signal all around. This is more due to small pipe deformations next to the weld than anything.

Hi Mr. Paul! A group of 0°linear elements with anti-coincident gate can be constructed. Can be ?

Not sure I understand what an anti-coincident gate is

Sorry I use best snr, but when I use best speed or narow or another, the definition of defect loss.

You can reduce the size of your ROI. If you are measuring 13mm thick material, but expect only 5 mm of corrosion, then set the ROI from depth 7 or 8 to 13, instead of 0 to 13.
