I was so young, a lonely infantry Soldier, listening to this band in the 90s. They spoke to my soul and I miss those years. . .before a big part of me was lost.

The absolute best memory of my life was in 98 while Adam Duritz was singing my favorite song, Rain King, and I was against the stage and he accidentally kicked a harmonica that he played that night off the stage and it fell and I was lucky to find it 🎉

I thank God that I lived through that era where humanity could embrace happily singing a song like this the intensity of our youth was a refined flow between the beauties of the world and the contact with others was real and without fear social networks smartphones did not exist the real world existed and we really communicated. thanks to Counting Crows for this masterpiece that today's music people can only dream about . I’m in my early 30s now and I have felt so depressed that I never got to pursue my dream of playing music. I spent my better years serving in the Army and deploying to Afghanistan. After my last deployment I returned a broken man. A shell of who I once was and ended up getting discharged due as a medical discharge. I spent a few years basically trying to destroy myself. All until I met a girl who’s dad I was working for doing landscaping. We got together and she got pregnant. I got cleaned up and now we are 8 years married and have a 7 year old son. But I never got to really chase my dream.

Finally! Amid all the "best song, no, best performance EVERR!!!" comments here, someone with a more reasonable view. I haven't seen them live, and only really know the first album. The album is pretty nice, but the various live versions I've seen of the songs on video (both early-era, and more recent) are exactly this lame stretched-out stuff.

I know that when some people see a group live, they just want to hear what they are used to hearing, but some of us prefer to see if Adam can take a song that we love somewhere we’ve never been before. As a singer, he taught me to improvise. Also, he has a dissociative disorder that flares up when he tours, so there have been some concerts I’ve seen through the years in which he doesn’t quite seem like himself and seems detached from the songs. But man, when he’s on… This is exactly the magic I’m here for, personally.
