Not really. If you’re looking at the same breakfast a few years ago, then yes. But these shop owners are paying significantly higher wages, costs of ingredients, utility bills, business rates, rent etc etc. A basic mark up model would see restaurants tripling their costs, which means that they have to create that dish using ingredients totalling £5.

@@CookingwithChefDai behave, you’ve got “chef” in your username, if that’s true you know there’s about 2 quids worth of produce there. Also if you’ve ever been to Kings Cross, which I regularly do. You would know there’s a hell of a lot more cafes with a better breakfast than that for a lot less money.

Tough one Darren. You did the right thing. I'm warming to your channel a bit more. Keep up the excellent content.

Venue looks nice. If eggs aren't done as I've requested.....which is well cooked....then I'll ask for them to be cooked fresh again, which they should do quickly for you. especially for that price. Two sausages should be included in the Full English ...I think. Lizzie 🤗🥰

I don't mind sunny-side up eggs but they looked quite undercooked to me. No excuse to for the chef to plate up when all they needed to do was splash some more oil on the yolks for another 30 seconds or so.

I really like my eggs like that..... but the deal breaker for me was the beans slopped on top of everything making the hash brown and bubble all soggy. Great review DJ and I wish you didn't have to pay for that :( Hope you went for a good brekky after that!

Good Heavens, thats very expensive, even for London. It's a Cafe, not Claridges. I agree about snotty eggs, just lack of care. I admire the honesty.

I'm totally with you on this review DJ, snotty eggs are a definite no no for me. As for service charge its daylight robbery as I bet half the places don't give it to the staff ☹️

A couple of observations. The eggs were not glazed, I like sunny side up as long as they put some hot oil over them. Whoever plated the breakfast threw the food at the plate from about 10 feet away. A bit like the waitress who also threw it at the table. Never heard you use the word 'Okay' as much. Pretty much somed it up.

Presentation your right, broken egg and overloaded beans everywhere, hate it when they serve up like that and think it’s acceptable no matter the price mate.

it was a disappointment and an expensive one too. Thank you for your honesty . Would love to see a video on your camera equipment and film making if you've not done this already. Hope all is well, take care.

£23 for slap dash on plate & snotty eggs, cook must of got out wrong side bed & customer got the end of it 😂

They wanted to charge over 50% more for adding a tea and service charge!! What a rip off!. The extra sausage was a replacement for the tomato, so he paid £6.10 for bubble and squeak and tea.

In my opinion mate, that whole plate apart from the bangers looked pony. Then you say it was £23, that's an insult to a person's intelligence despite them knocking a couple of quid off for mistakes. I'm like you, I'm not sending it back to have the eggs flipped while the rest of my breakfast gets cold, also it always looks crap after they've done it. It should be right first time, especially when they're charging more than a score for a fried breakfast. I'm also with you that onions have no place in bubble, spuds, cabbage, sprouts and maybe even a bit of roast parsnip if it's left over from the sunday roast, but deffo no onions or even carrots should ever be involved. Great video content as usual Darren, keep up the good work in the capital of the world.

I'm with you on eggs with slimy bits - very unappealing to the eye and the taste - doesn't a 'hat' over the eggs during cooking help with this problem - I know its much easier in the domestic kitchen - but surely a business should know this trick. Shame it wasn't up to scratch - next time maybe? That price - really? - scarcely with a tenner all in - good lord.

It wasnt just about the eggs, they smothered the hash brown and bubble in beans. Its also the fact they served the food up like that, with a broken egg

I'm with you on the snotty eggs. I love a runny yolk, not a runny white. Makes me gip just thinking about it. A good honest review though. As always.

Yuk. Those beans looked cheap/watery/nasty. Eggs 😢. Shame but theres gonna be a ‘ rogue meal’ now and again im sure. Its the way the cookie crumbles 😮

It's so easy to cook a good egg, fried or poached, such a shame that one thing along with presentation can ruin a meal/breakfast especially when you're paying good dollar🤔😩 keep up with the fantastic vids as always Mr Darren John 👍🏻👍🏻 take care👍🏻

breakfasts have got so expensive

There is no reason for the Sunnyside eggs to be runny, it only requires a tablespoon to ladle the oil on the egg for a few seconds.

I like a turned egg in a toasted sandwich but sunnyside in a full EB just cover the pan to cook the top of the egg, simple 🙂

cant imagine why anyone would think serving an egg which is raw on the top is a good thing, it would never have left my pan when I had my place.

I don't paying extra for quality, but the local greasy spoon near me can do better for a third of the price.

I used to use that cafe a few years ago, dont remeber it being that steep and alway got a decent fry up

Admire your honesty. Yes like yourself I like eggs more cooked. But the beans just "thrown" is a disaster. But you can't win them all.

That's a big no from me. It looks like the chef threw the breakfast at the plate from 10ft away. No care or attention to what they're serving. I'd be embarrassed if I sent food out like that.

Dazza the last time I was in this cafe it was 2007 and Iv never been back lol but I do think airline cafe across from the ibis is still the worst cafe in London 😂 the fox bar used to do a decent breakfast near there 👍

DJ, bet you wished you had gone to Becks (Red Lion St.) or the other place you reviewed about a year ago end of Grays Inn Rd!!?? Would have cost c.£10-12. I use those 2 when in that area based on your recommendations. 😃

when all my family lived at home(6 of us) and i made anything with fried rggs.. if i burst one or however many i would put it in the dog bowl for him to have when it cooled... and i always cooked the yolk.. it was runny but never snotty

Many top chefs, when taking on kitchen staff, will ask them to try an egg. It's a basic, but important skill. Another 20 seconds and they would have been fine for me.

21 quid for a fry is outrageous. As for the eggs, i like sunny side up but I'd be pissed about a broken yolk. What I do is get the eggs and cut all the white bits off and eat them and then dump the yolks onto the spuds, the snottyness disappears. Soz you had an expensive average fry up

Being honest is very hard to do and you do it perfectly. It gives you creditably and people will believe you always. I have never doubted your vlogs ever, which Is why I enjoy your content. Completely off topic, I have noticed you are getting more thumbs up that some that have many more subscribers. The one that will not be mentioned is getting desperate for views, it is almost embarrassing to watch!

Can’t see you returning and I don’t blame you!

It should have been bacon, eggs, beans, sausages, tomatoes, fried bread, (not bloody toast) and mushrooms. You can keep the black pudding, I don't want pigs' blood and guts.

Shame it was disappointing and makes it even worse that it was 15 quid. My local cafe does an absolute beast of a fry up for £5.95!

Its a shame that it didn't live up to expectations. A good food review as ever.

Well played you DJ for being honest and measured. No one, least of all you, likes giving a beating to what is likely a family run place. But, that breakfast was sub par and thats the end of it. The eggs looked grim and id like the option of eating the beans where i want rather than them being poured over the other items. As for the "why didnt you send them back" - i have kicked up in numerous restaurants over the years but there are times when youve come out for a breakfast and not a stand up row and i cant be bothered. As for £23, im relaxed at London prices - we know they are high - but they have to dish out the quality at that price. A fair review id say DJ.

I like my sunnysides nice and runny, great for the toast. I would have given a positive review. How were the ordering instructions for the eggs ?

Just put a pan lid over the eggs for 1 minute and no more snotty eggs. Even drop a tablespoon of water before you put on the lid.

Ouch! Even more of a disappointment when you have been before !

That's one off the list. I appreciate it's kings cross but that's crazy price. Near the Eurostar at st pancreas catch the euro traveler.

True Julia because if you went to a b&b they always ask how you want the eggs and so do the majority of reviews ive seen on you tube.

Presentation was awful - charging over £15 with a broken egg is literally criminal. Enjoyed the vid though DJ

First look at those eggs made me think yuk straight away. I understand why you did not complain about the eggs as they should have been cooked properly in the first place.

I would totally agree with you about the Bubble and squeek with the Baked Beans on top, no you do not do that. For such a Lovely Cafe and very nice people. It is a real shame about the Eggs. You DJ, as a Chef know how Eggs should be cooked. I would have complained and asked for my money back. I do not want to get Food Poisoning. The Breakfast was not good. No score at all. Thank you very DJ, for being yourself and really Honest with your Viewers. You are Great Human Being.

Would you ever ask for eggs cooked through? I always like mine cooked through. I got laughed at once by a bartender for ordering that, which I thought was pretty rude!

I appreciate it's London but that breakfast was way too expensive, understand how disappointed you must have been especially as you have been there before.

Personally speaking the eggs that way would make my stomach turn and I’d of left the plate. So it’s a no from me on snotty eggs 🤮🤮🤮 Onions in bubble?? Shame the eggs and bubble let the breakfast down, those eggs did not look cooked at all and onion definitely does not belong in bubble. I agree re the presentation it looked almost slopped on.

I was underwhelmed by your breakfast - a broken yoke was a bad start and the rest, it looked like it had been flung at the plate.🤔23 quid for that was a bit rich, even if the eggs were alright.😮‍💨

DJ try the airport cafe at sellindge neat Ashford. Just near port lymph . Proper food and plenty of room . Outside seating and plenty of bikers visit it.

I don’t mind eggs like that to be honest. I always skip beans and those looked really cheap.

Good service is a pre requisite. The style of those eggs is perfect for me, I like them baveuse. The issue I have is the broken egg (no biggy) and placing wet beans on top of crispy items. That's quite sloppy. £15-£20 for breakfast is fine, but it comes with expectation. It has to be a killer breakfast and that looked average across all items. Sausages looked decent. Bread looked decent. Bacon may have been OK. Together it just didn't look appetising though. For that money there's alot of choice and much better places to go. Great video as always. Daylight robbery Darren….!😢 The bill hurts less if it’s decent, but that was a shocker…. Even though the sausages looked O.K. they were pretty small I thought…? Eggs uncooked, beans slathered over the bubble, no Tommy’s…. and £23 quid…. Ouch! It’s a big “No thanks” from me…
