I know that the Seamaster Professional has been the "Bond" watch since Goldeneye. However, I think the reasoning behind that is that a version of the Seamaster 300 (Reference 165.024) was actually issued to Royal Navy divers by the M.O.D. in the 70's, prior to that role being taken over by Rolex with the 5513/5517 and then CWC in the 80's. This SM300 had fixed spring bars and cold only be worn on a NATO strap per M.O.D. request, and was a tool watch in the truest sense. Omega also reissued a watch with a very similar watch in the "Peter Blake" 2254.50 with the same black wave dial and sword hands, but with a date window and on either a Speedmaster or a "Bond" bracelet. When I think of a "modern" Bond watch from the "tactical" or "tool" watch perspective, I think of a modernized version of the original 165.024 = the case shape of the SMP (with the twisted lugs and helium escape valve) but add the same previous fixed lugs as before so that the watch can only be worn on a NATO, make the (42mm) case out of Grade 5 Titanium due to the light weight and durability, and then use the sandwich dial from the current generation SM3000 (with white superluminova, rather than using a patina) with the current numerals, but with the hour markers and the sword hand-set from the 2254.50. No date, with the broadarrow printed on the dial above the "6". Fully gradiated bezel like the original 165.024. Caliber 8800 (or whatever the current upgrade would be at that time) with a solid case back. That becomes his everyday watch, and then give him the yellow gold 18K DeVille Tresor in a 38mm case size with a black dial small seconds hand and a black broc strap with a fold-over clasp as his dress piece. The perfect two watch combination for a man with style who still gets his hands dirty on a regular basis!

We’re on the same wavelength here for sure… I’d like to see a modern 2254…Same case and crystal (domed) set as the NTTD…Full titanium…Size the same as well… Dial and bezel just like the NTTD but in black with embossed and filled markers…Agree with skipping on the patina look as well, need to look fresh…Sword hands of course… For the bracelet / strap the solid case with no spring bars approach is interesting for sure…Something like Tudor does with the FXD Pelagos…Something I’d be interested in for sure…If they did go with a bracelet option I’d say something like what the modern speedy’s use…Full titanium with no polished bits…And re-work the clasp to bring it more in line with the Brosnan era SMP’s… They’re on the right path after what they pulled off with the NTTD…It’s the best modern dive watch on the market and the closest thing to an actual “tool” diver that Omega has kicked out in a long time…Been my daily piece for near on a year now and replaced my Casino Royale PO which was my daily for well over a decade…If they can pin down the model for the next era of Bond then I’m there for the new piece day 1…

Bond is not a guy who always sticks to the rules, especially in formal settings. He often does not wear a waist cover like a vest or a cummerbund when he wears a tuxedo. He also often wears Derbys instead of highly polished Oxfords. Therefore wearing a dive watch with his tux is just another example of him breaking dress code rules.

I also own the Quartz Goldeneye and have done from new in 2001. You are correct. It is a fabulous timepiece and extremely comfortable. It is a watch I will NEVER part with until my son inherits my little collection.

25:40 That's why British author Ian Fleming wore a time-only Rolex Explorer 1016, which he used to describe James Bond's watch... long before Omega product-placement kicked in!

Almost an hour zipped buy,I have actually seen the rubber stunt seamaster 300m on KZread at some sort of bond exhibition, can't for the life of me remember where it is , great video gentlemen.

Honestly, just stick with the Seamaster 300m Diver Watch

Awesome video David. I've been watching your channel for over a year and this video actually made me go out and buy a new, relatively expensive watch. I've had a cheap $100 Timex for 3 years and I've always wanted an Omega. Now, Omega is a BIT out of my price range, so I bought a limited edition Seiko Prospex SSC909. Only 10,000 made. Really beautiful watch. And I thank you for the inspiration not only to buy a nice watch, but also for the inspiration to emulate Bond. And, I know it's not Omega, but Seiko WAS in The Spy Who Loved Me thru A View To A Kill if I'm not mistaken. Keep up all the awesome videos and thanks for all you do.

There are so many watch brands. If you're gonna speculate on an actor who likely won't be bond anyway due to age, why not speculate with other actors and other brands like Tudor or a tool watch like the Rolex Explorer II. I'd love to see you debate other watch models that you'd fantasize seeing on Bond outside Omega.

Just bought my first Omega Bond watch went for the Goldeneye SM quartz version, seems like a good starting point and reasonable price agreed!

Watching this while wearing the SMP 2220.80 that was worn in Casino Royale 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I also have the blue AT worn in Spectre and NTTD. Beautiful blue dial on this one. I wish I have that limited Spectre Seamaster 300 but it's too expensive so I got the standard model instead and put it on the same "Daniel Craig" nato strap, so it looks similar. Great looking timepiece for sure.

This might be an unimaginative choice. But surely the next James Bond would wear at some point the updated 2018 Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Professional with a blue dial.

Rolex is played out. It's the flex bro watch of the 2020's. No longer appropriate for Bond.

I could have seen Bond with a black Tudor Pelagos. Not the new 39mm, but the first or second version the 42mm. Black matte and very utilitarian.

The GMT David picked is one of my favorites. I don’t think they sell that one in boutiques anymore which is unfortunate.

Definitely was a Gruen 510 worn by Sean Connery, not sure dial details or how collectors came up with the 12,3,6,9 version.

Hmmm… very interesting conversation. I am going to be rather controversial and say I do not think or even believe Bond should be wearing a seamaster (at least for this new incarnation) I believe a change might be in order horologically speaking. I believe it might be an Omega Speedmaster Professional (in other words …. “The Moon Watch” ) Omega have invested a lot of money in the re- vamped Speedy and is recognised is the flagship in the Omega catalogue. So I believe we might (at last) see a special bond version of the Speedmaster.

I've a theory for the next Bond and the next Bond watch, is just a fantasy theory but it seems to work logically :). All the Craigs Bond movies are linked together from casino royal to NTTD, the last scene of NTTD is where Madeleine is talking to her daughter about Bond, and the movie ends, i think that the next movie will be linked to that scene, so it will be some sort of story about how Bond become Bond... from his childhood up to his adult age, and i think i great brand for this young Bond, could be Hamilton, expecially the khaki king model. Is quite cheap, good for a young Bond, but still with heritage, very bad ass and masculine looking and a low luxury watch brand. Plus Hamilton is the n.1 watch brand for appearences in cinema movies.

I guess you could definitely see it as black in certain lighting conditions…Brownish in most lights is the best I can describe it…It’s the pre-aged patina look they gave it… Been my daily wearer for nearly a year at this point…Best modern dive watch on the market…

Definitely not Cavill 😟 Too old now. I'd like the watch to be a gadget, but something realistic like a remote detonator, and definitely nothing ludicrous such as him winching himself up by just his watch like they did in TWINE.

@@buffen2496 Barbara Brocolli mentioned the next Bond being a reinvention and someone younger, Cavill will be 40 in May next year and by the time filming starts potentially in 2024/2025 he'll be early 40's. So yes in terms of what they are planning he is too old.

The planet ocean I thought does reappear in casino in the beach scene with Vesper.

He’s Superman. Period. And He’s too old now. Think it will be a surprise pick. I think the new Bond will be a throwback that would allow omega to reach into archives. Think a vintage reedition Seamaster but with coaxial mechanical wind. Never a quartz. That’s my two cents.

Bond's formal encounters routinely become less formal and become more action-oriented. I don't think a dress watch can handle Xenia Onatop.😁 What bothers me is the lack of chronogrtaph watches in Bond's watchbox.

I like getting to see a distinction between Bond having personal watches and work watches. Connery wore his gold Gruens when Bond was off duty at the Casino, but the Submariners when on a mission. Craig wore Aqua Terra's when on his various retirements but 300/Planet Oceans when clocked on. It would be nice for there to be a Bond just living his life segment in the next film, maybe showing just how bored he gets between missions like some of the books did.

The more I think about it I think there's some thematic legs to showing Bond off duty, where you can lightly poke holes in the Bond mythos (as nothing can be left de-constructed anymore). Bond doesn't really have any friends outside of work, just acquintences if anything. He sleeps with married women so he can easily dissolve the relationship. He plays golf with whoever happens to be at the club that day. I assume he goes to private wine tasting events to get his encyclopedic knowledge of booze. The tailors might turn up to his funeral but probably not his birthday. You could probably present this in a way that looks cool at first glance but is a bit tragic once you think about it a bit.

A little fatigued of Omega, nice as they are. What about JLC? Would love to see a reverso under a tuxedo cuff.

Is it the over emphasis on branding & which brands should feature, part of the problem of why production of theses movies takes so many years now. I'm sure it must absorb alot of time scrutinizing whats worthy and then getting the contracts signed. Earlier movies I'm sure never had such focus to the same degree.

Why can’t we see two watches on Bond in the next movie? We can do a dress watch, but maybe only scenes in a tux or specific settings. The Seamaster, or a variation of it, should remain, as it’s fit and function is perfect for other scenes.

My thinking exactly…Take it back to the Connery era and give Bond a nice undersized gold cased dress watch for those formal occasions…Something around 35-38mm would be perfect… The only time he should wear his diver with a tux is when he’s actively on a mission that requires it, like in ~Goldfinger~ for example…Save the diver for the suite and tie field work type of stuff…

That skyfall watch was made for you David & the next bond will probably be a unknown actor

By all means keep Omega but it would be good to have actual military issued watches on screen. Either the CWC SBS diver or the Elliot Brown Holton. Both designed in conjunction with and issued to the British military and therefore genuinely have a NATO issued stock number and the right to use the Pheon/crows foot/broad arrow.

If Lorenzo's choice of watches for bond 26 became true, in which order would you both acquire them ?

Seamaster 300 heritage or Seamaster 1948

Bond should return to his genuine watch. The ROLEX SUBMARINER. And this is why: A) The Rolex Submariner was introduced in 1953 and it was the first true diver's watch that surerceeded the depth rate of 100 meters (The Blancpain FF which was introduced the same year had a depth rate of only 91 meters). The Omega Seamaster diver was introduced 4 years later, in 1957! B) The Rolex Submariner ref. 6538/A and the following ref. 5512 were chosen by Britain's MOD (Ministry of Defence) as the official watches for naval officers, SEALS and Special Forces (SAS and SBS) during the period 1956 - 1967. In 1967, MOD attempted to replace Rolex with the Omega Seamaster ref. 165.024. But due to problems with Omega's "naiad crown" which was leaking in shalow waters, in 1971 MOD made again the Rolex Submariner ref. 5513/5517 it's official military watch. C) Ian Fleming, wrote in his novels that James Bond wears "a heavy Rolex Oyster Perpetual on an expanding metal bracelet”. He knew that this was the correct choise for a naval officer. D) The Rolex Submariner is immortalized in the first Bond movies as the original and most iconic James Bond's wristwatch. In conclusion: The Rolex Submariner is historically more accurate than the Omega Seamaster as the wristwatch of James Bond, because it has a) reacher history, b) better naval - military connection, c) connection with the literal Bond of the Fleming novels d) connection with the cinematic Bond of the first and most iconic Bond movies. My Best Regards

The notion that an operator like James Bond runs around wearing luxury brand watches is about as far-fetched as his movie adventures. A more utilitarian watch like a Sinn EZM (there is a chronograph model, Sinn EZM 12), which is actually used by special forces, makes more sense. Please note I'm not saying he should wear a G-Shock. 😛 If Bond were wearing an very affordable tactical watch like a Trintec, so many people would buy one because they look great, they are durable, they are actual tactical watches, and best, they are cheap as chips!🍟

What’s interesting about that concept, is Omega has been a supplier to the British MoD since the 1940s. Still to this day British SAS and SBS units are still issued Omegas for active duty.

Whatever they are please have Bond stop wearing Omega's oversized Submariner knock-offs. Omega has some beautiful heritage watches that would look better on a well-dressed secret agent. Or if they just have to have him wear a dive watch all the time, make a deal with Rolex instead and have him wear a real Submariner.
