As a native Angelino who commutes back and forth to go to SDCC every year, I do not recommend moving it to L.A. Our convention center is way smaller. Traffic congestion is already bad and there are more apartments than hotels to accommodate people. L.A. wouldn't last a day handling all the foot traffic that SDCC has, not to mention pedestrians at San Diego are notorious for cheating red lights and train tracks if they don't see traffic. That will piss off both the locals and the LAPD. San Diego is its rightful home.

I live in L.A. county and would much rather drive the two hours to San Diego than the half hour to San Diego. Moving it would be like having the Rose Bowl played at SoFi.

@@Steven-bi1sq Exactly. I too live in the county. The closest we have to SDCC is WonderCon, and that's next door in Orange County. The heart of DTLA is not designed to be a tourist attraction, it's a financial district.

Yeah, just look at that mess at Anime Expo. LA venues are too small and who wants to be in Downtown LA? Nobody.

If The Comic-Con company leaves for more money instead of a fair contract in the ONLY city it's ever been in would be more of a blow to Comic-Con's reputation than the city's. Anyone that lives in the LA area ALREADY comes down here for it so they would not gain anyone new by going there. I myself wouldn't go as a matter of principle and I am sure many more wouldn't too. It would signal that all they care about is money and not putting on a good show. We already feel that way now and this will seal the deal for many of us.

Don't forget San Diego Comic Con is a "Non profit for the arts". They pay no taxes and get sweet deals from the city on rent and other expenses. I don't know if another city would be willing to do that for them.

Do not let them leave, SDCC needs to be in SAN DIEGO. It started here it should stay here! It brings so much money here!

That is so true and thanks for pointing it out. News crews would be on hand and they'd point out the Klingons (before it was known as cosplay) and snicker. The freak show is in town. Now they proudly trumpet the arrival of Comic -Con.

The San Diego Fine Arts Museum is a Comic-con building now? That's just crazy. The first Con I attended was dealers rooms. Costume contest in Golden Hall on Saturday night. Later on, after parties with Bill Mumy and Jose Ferrer rockin' with Seduction of te Innocent. Those were the days

It was the masquerade ball then. The El Cortez Hotel, Jack Kirby walking the halls at night, walk right up and buy a ticket, easy parking. Those were the days indeed.

How hard is it to expand a convention center?

That would be a terrible mistake if we let San Diego Comic Con leave San Diego! We already lost the Chargers! If Shel Dorf (SDCC Founder) is still alive, he would fight till the end for SDCC to stay in San Diego. Also, we need to expand the convention center as soon as possible! We need to modernize the building.
