Could Paul Scholes actually tackle? | That Peter Crouch Podcast

Музыка

Peter Crouch, Chris Stark and Tom Fordyce discuss the art of tackling, including Paul Scholes: bad at tackling or out for revenge every game?
There's the story of a Liverpool team-mate who wouldn't hold back against Crouch on international duty, and why John Obi Mikel was the recipient of the worst tackle he ever made.
In matters off the pitch, there's a tale involving rubber gloves, a mouse and some curtains.

7:57 I'm so glad Crouch mentioned Wes Brown. I always thought Wes epitomised the tough but fair tackle. Even these days when I see a player take the ball and absolutely go through a player I think "whoa that was such a Wes Brown tackle"

Cruyff had a turn named after him. Scholes had a tackle named after him. The Scholes tackle is that dirty tackle in the first 2 minutes, usually around the centre circle, that aimed to cripple the opposition's star player. 97 yellows and 4 reds. Got away with a lot more because refs were always lenient in the first few minutes.

I've seen Scholes play football and can confirm he is a poor tackler. Don't know why the evidence of your own eyes isn't enough to convince you of this one. He was slow and unfit (for a professional footballer) and let's not get confused that tackling is the same as passing. Plenty of defenders are good tacklers but are horrible at passing (for a professional footballer).

@@Dubbsteppa21 he's a brilliant player in a currently below average team (we are improving). You can say he only stands out because he's surrounded by mediocre played and that's true but seriously the goals he's scored and the way he breaks down defences on his own warrants more acknowledgement than people give. Pundits are raving over him for a reason. He's got 8 goals and 6 assists and top of chances created from open play and top of most dribbles completed. How him and maddison don't get in the England team over players like Delph is beyond me.

Often popped up in the centre-back position, even for England. If you'd watched enough games you'd know this.

fuckin ridiculous stat...Roy Keane played nearly 150 games less than Scholes and had only 30 yellow cards less and 3 red cards more. Does that mean Roy Keane couldnt tackle??? when crouch runs out of football nostalgia...this podcast will be nothing

gmacca21 footballs a team sport, loads of talented players don’t get individual recognition or accolades but look at the players who’ve said how good he was almost every top player in that era who played with/against him says he’s one of the greatest in his position
