Antoine Bandele let's see, Iroh vs Ozai, who would win? If I was a betting man I would put my money on Iroh, why? Because 1. He's powerful too in his own right, his own father was going to make him fire Lord of the fire nation. 2. He has experience on the battlefield 3. He has both techniques and abilities that his brother don't have 4. In his prime, he was a legend, he was known as the dragon of the West 5. He's wise, calm, collected, clever, and smart. 6. He was a prodigy like both his brother and his niece azula. 7. He has multiple fighting styles but he only uses one element (fire) , meaning he fights as though he was the avatar. It isn’t a good point because firebender that shoot lightning instantly like azula and Ozai did it because it was part of the reflexes. They shot it during battle. However, we know mako can shoot his lightning in one second but in the final stand, he takes his time. Iroh was only showing zuko the power of lightning because he wanted zuko to master the basic movements of lightning before actually generating it in one second.

@@dominic7038 actually, mako's lightning isn't the same as from the first series, the ATLA series lightning is like a bolt, a thunder bolt, a quick and fatal blow, where as what mako uses is a weaker stream of lightning which isn't fatal but rather incapacitates.

The best part about irohs character is that we never see him show his full power.

I honestly agree with this. He was so calm and collective all the time. He never had to show his full power or ability. In quick bursts we see it, but he never actually unleashes it. Its almost like the sun just lashing out little solar flares. He only uses what he knows will beat his opponent. Sadly, unless he plans to kill his own brother, Im not sure.

Because he never believed in the use of destruction and death to begin with. Even before his son's death, he had a kind heart and was enlightened. He naturally is a better and wiser bender than Ozai. That is pretty obvious. However in terms of raw power it's hard to decide cause we have never seen Iroh going all out. Even he destroyed Ba Sing se's wall, he was calm, composed and not using more force than needed

Lol ohzai had to give himself the name “the Phoenix king”. The people willingly called iroh “the dragon of the west”.

I like Iroh more too but Ozai would stomp him. If we compare their feats during Sozin's Comet we clearly see that Ozai is more powerful. He can even conjure up lighting faster than any other firebender in the show

I think an important part of the question is "why would Iroh fight Ozai?". The most like scenario would be both Aang and Zuko have been killed and Iroh realises "Ozai must be stopped, no matter the cost". Another factor is victory conditions. Ozai must survive to win, Iroh does not. Mutual destruction is a win for Iroh.

Iroh and Jeong Jeong are two characters I wish we could have seen at full power more. They were clearly in the top tier of firebenders, but we can really only speculate what they are fully capable of

Jeong Jeong used fire bending on a comet empowered level even without the comet. He had raw power. I think that is the reason he put such emphasis on control. It was his own weakness.

Iroh's goal was to open a hole in the wall to retake the earth capital, Ozai wanted to torch the earth kingdom to ashes... Different motives, different degree of strength used. Also Ozai didn't challenge Iroh directly for the throne, but used a sneaky method when Iroh was depressed about his son's death and it still didn't involve strength. Iroh would whoop his ass anyday.

Just cause your capable of fighting incredible in a fight doesn't mean you'd be as capable as your prime. Bumi is strong but he's probably way stronger in his prime I would imagine. Iroh is indeed capable but not as Ozai who is younger, stronger, and more agile. It's honestly pretty obvious who would win and although Iroh is more skilled that wouldn't be enough to ignore all of Ozai's advantages. That being said if this was prime Iroh the battle would probably be a wash. Anyways I hate how people mention old characters who strong as an argument like they aren't affected by age. Kyoshi is different I'd say though. I honestly am unsure when and how age affects her but probably why she lived so long was because she was the Avatar which may have factored in. But you can't really compare Avatar's to the norm.

10:45 No, it's because in Fire Nation tradition, you don't interrupt an Agni Ki. It's a "Fire Duel to the Death" between the two (unless like Zuko, they decide to spare the loser.) So interrupting one would be considered 1) Shameful/Dishonorable. And 2) Would essentially be a forfeit for the person they're interrupting it for, as it would prove they couldn't win.

The only reason Ozai was stunned by Aang redirecting lighting was because he had no clue he could do that. Ozai is aware Iroh can do it, and probably wouldn't try. Now, you are right that Ozai can't deflect lightning, so potentially Iroh could hit him with lightning of his own, but I doubt Ozai would let him get a shot like that off.

Iroh doesn't need bending to be called "one man army".... take notes

If in the show they are comparable in a fight, then I'm pretty sure if Iroh was Ozai's age then Iroh would probably win. Not a stomp though, he would wear Ozai out or outsmart him. Iroh can mount a strong offense against Ozai and yeah Ozai's offense would be more powerful but probably not as tactical or precise. Iroh mechanically is the best firebender we have seen in the show. He showed more skill in firebending than any other bender, with his precise and lightning-quick movements and his fire breathing. If you can think of something to do with fire, chances are Iroh is a master at it. Iroh can blow fire so it's likely he knows how to do other very advanced bending. Iroh also used more fighting styles than Ozai, meaning he branched out more and learned more than Ozai and can pull from all that knowledge. I'm also meaning precise and control more like if you had to sustain the perfect amount of fire on a target at range for a very specific amount of time and it had to be the same amount of fire exerted the entire time, then Iroh would be better at that than Ozai, if you had them do it 10 times Iroh would probably win 9 of 10 times at least. Iroh is like the Pro RLCS Rocket league player Jstn in mechanical abilities, Ozai is more like Jknaps. Jstn can do anything he wants with the ball, and Iroh can do anything he wants with fire, Jknaps is a more overwhelming player and can get ahead of himself but has a lot of potential to pop off, just like Ozai. Jstn is more balanced and can style on you more than Jknaps, but Jknaps will probably score more against you with his tenacity. Ozai is only comparable to Jknaps if Jknaps is consistently good. Jstn is fairly consistent and uses very little boost and very efficient with every movement, and Jknaps uses more boost and isn't quite as efficient but still very efficient compared to other players.

11:50 have to severely disagree, Aang is a water bender and knows the basics of lightning redirection already because it was based on waterbending. Iroh studied the elements for years, only then could he teach Zuko. I doubt that Ozai or Azula could ever harness this ability on their own

I agree with you. Even after learning from Iroh n succeeding in redirecting Ozai's lightning, Zuko's skills were still unpolished since he couldn't properly redirect Azula's lightning during their Agni Kai leaving him injured so redirecting lightning still requires more time to properly perfect the technique.

@@JP-wt4zr bolth are incredibly impressive feats, but at least with real fire the force involved is almost nonexistent, it's primarily heat. So boiling a lake away is an immense feat, but iroh would be relying on the combustion of air molecules in an open area to punch a hole in that wall, which in real life would be nearly impossible, or he was making fire so hot that it was turning hundreds of tons of stone immediately into gasses, which is also much more impressive. Also I know that in the show firebending is not very realistic in how it impacts people, but it is very hard to judge anyways so I feel like looking to reality cant hurt too mutch Btw, I know this is late but avatar is always relevant

menacemarco1989 Iroh and Ozai’s firebending came from different places. Ozai’s fire came from anger and hatred, while Iroh’s fire came life and breath. This is because Iroh learnt from the dragons while Ozai was taught by humans.

Also, he based the timing of Iroh's lightning on a demonstration as teacher. A maths teacher for example is way faster than any of his students, but goes slower to explain it better.

Every firebender on the ship was putting a ton of fire because of the comet, but if you check again it wasnt the same output as Ozai, his was longer and spread wider too, you can see this in the overhead shot they put there, also, it would make sense in universe for those fire benders to be elite level, since they are the ones accompanying him in setting fire to the Earth Kingdom

@@XxFATfishREBORNxX while I can grant you all of that. I still say that it's not very good power scaling. Sure those were fire bending Masters and everything but they weren't Iroh level... If Iroh was on one of those warships his blasts would have been pretty much indistinguishable from Ozai's I'm just saying that in terms of pure output there is no real way to know if iro or ozai had more.

That is WAY more raw force. Imagine how much power it takes to give fire the density to break through a hardened stone wall with no fragmentation points due to it being made by earthbenders. Iroh has the far superior feat regardless. As well it isnt implied that the series of breaths helped him put out more power and visually is exactly the same as a powerlifter exhaling several times before a big lift. "People say iroh is more skilled, which I dont believe since ozai could fly and he did it with little effort and with full control suggesting he had already practised it" Flying is a measure of power since he is essentially just creating thrusters. You can make a case for agility since he adjusts direction very quickly, but a single skill does not state overall skill when said skill is primarily rooted in power output. As well Iroh's style is literally about being rooted, as he taught Zuko. Flying is not all that useful to him in any avatar circumstance presented, and we cannot assume that iroh CANT fly. "He is way more agile and fast judjig by how much time he was able to evade avatar state aang, while also throwing attacks that aang in avatar state needed to defend against and not just shrug off" Iroh was able to completely disable the bending of both zhao and azula from several feet away. He clearly has the superior speed physically. As well he weighs more and is likely a lot stronger for that reason. Beyond that he is the only one in the entire show that is able to react to REAL lightning, no warning, no prep, during a crisis. And there is no evidence aang had to deal with it, simply that he was on auto-pilot and that was the most efficient method. Iroh up close didnt even attempt hand to hand combat against a CHILD and tried to use bending which availed him nothing. Single minded, not super intelligent, and ineffective "He could also breathe a very big amount of fire and every move of his showed great skill" He showed a mastery over the movements that run in his family. But he never shows the level of overall skill that iroh demonstrates

I think it's important to note that Iroh controlled his blast against Ba Sing Se's wall to ensure civillians in the outer rim did not get injured from the debree and also as he only needed a relatively large opening for the White Lotus to get through, not needing to disintegrare the whole wall for that. Ozai on the other hand was trying to destroy as much as possible, and thus his fire blasts were bigger and seemingly more powerful.

@@august7134 Iroh compressed his fire into an attack and threw it at the wall.. Compressed attacks are always going to do more damage, it was not some finely-controlled attack. Yet it still took Iroh six deep breaths to charge it up.

Empathy is not something you can find in Ozai.

Don't forget that aang held off the fight because he did not want to kill ozai. Also the comet gave ozai a power boost. Iroh is more rounded and skillfull.

I agree. Without the comet Aang probably would have put down Ozai relatively easily, even without killing him.

The fact that Iroh can counter lightning proves to me that he can come out victorious if he really wanted to. I mean Ozai was taken off guard by this ability twice in the series and both times he only survived bc his opponents decided to be nonlethal

Which makes sense bc it usually takes a second to charge that lighting but it takes no time at all for the person countering to send it right back at them

@@CH1LLS. i’m mean that’s nice and all be to counter something means you have to be able to react and move relative to it. iroh and zuko have done this multiple times with lightning and since ozai scales above them he would as well along him the simple ability to sidestep any lightning attack and thats if he lets him get it off

@kenrock7227 iroh zuko and aang are able to counter it because the counter requires less movement than a side step (not because they're faster than lighting). They're letting themselves get hit by lightning then redirecting it back at their opponent. Watch the last fight between aang and Ozai. Ozai barely had time to change his facial expression let alone side step before aang redirected his lightning.

Personally I think Ozai would just go for the offensive, trying to pummel his brother as hard as he can, and Iroh would stonewall him long enough for him to slip up, giving Iroh an opening to land a short but devastating hit.

i think that you have a favorite.... Ozai didnt almost became world ruler, in pure luck or with someone just in his toes regarding power, he is a genius, in power and in intellect. I want iroh to win, but he would get stomp... maybe is the comet wasn't present in the fight i could see a victory, and if zuko didnt show before his lightning deflection....

Iroh isnt in a state where he can stonewall for a lengthy drawn out fight. Ozai has FAR more stamina and energy to spend in a fight than iroh, regardless of Iroh being in fantastic shape for his age. Im not saying Ozai hasthe guaranteed win but the only situation where Iroh wins is a fast to medium paced fight where he redirects ozais lightning for a one shot kill.

Kodukula Anirudh no amount of speed and reflexes can allow someone to just dodge lightning. It moves at the speed of light, and without the redirection technique your screwed if someone shoots lightning at you.

3:49 you’ve got something wrong here, because you can really see how concentrated Ozai’s plume is with the comet. The best firebending scene in my opinion, because it’s not to heat something, it’s heating the flames with more flames until the whole thing bursts out. (With a teapot sound)

I always loved how the show acknowledges how dangerous and hard the lightning move is, and yet Iroh can just do it so casually like he’s playing with the wind

It would’ve been interesting hearing him speak to Master Jeong Jeong, Master Piandao, and Uncle Iroh after the war They all would have had different stories to tell that would’ve affected them greatly and would make an amazing mini series

3:20 Iroh's was more powerful than Ozai's plume of fire honestly, Ozai was just bending fire while Iroh was shooting an actual rocket Ozai didn't cause an explosion when the fire made contact with the ground, iroh did cause an explosion, one that blew up ba sing se wall even... that's a huge feat in my opinion

@@kenrock7227 an attack that covers a mountain-sized range isn't necessarily mountain level. Ozai's fire isn't shown doing anything more than surface-level damage like a giant regular flamethrower, while Iroh's fire actually busts through a giant wall that took a giant drill to work through. Think of me taking a flamethrower to burn down a forest vs me taking some dynamite to blow up a tree. One covers a larger range but the second actually has more destructive force.

Late to the party, I feel iroh melted the bars just as the eclipse totaled, using the last of fire bending to melt them apart, then started hand to hand. He may have just bent them as well with brute strength.

1:50 I’d say the lightning Iroh generates teaching Zuko is not representative of his capabilities. He’s teaching, meaning he’s doing it as slowly as possible so Zuko can follow his moves and learn. For reference, he shows how to do the redirection very slowly, but we see him redirect natural and Azula’s lightning very quickly.

Ozai: *shoots lightning* Aang and Zuko (basically the only people he shoots lightning at in the entire show): *redirects* Ozai: 👁👄👁

In terms of power, Iroh's "slow" lightning demonstration was simply a training session with Zuko. He had to show him proper form and you can't properly demonstrate that by rushing it. If he would have done a rapid demonstration, Zuko would have likely impatiently tried it quickly too and killed himself. In regards to him in Ba Sing Se, he couldn't just output a massive flow of fire. He would have destroyed the city he was trying to liberate

@@shogun5599 , I have to agree with this thought process. Ozai is a prideful and ambitious man, perhaps above all things, so it is interesting that he wouldn't challenge him for the throne. Clearly familial connection isn't the reason, perhaps politically? Again unlikely however because of Ozai's predilection for cunning and the political game. I think when we see Ozai fighting Aang we're getting a good taste of what Iroh might've been like in his prime. But I agree that ultimately he would lose given his inability to morally rationalize killing his brother.

I think the reason we saw Iroh being so slow with lightning is because he was instructing Zuko, so he was going through the motions slowly and purposefully for teaching purposes.

Iroh was acknowledged by King Azulan, while Ozai didnt. thats a fact.

the writers just said "hurr durr ozai strong" but thats probably only because he just produces huge amounts of fire, iroh probably doesnt produce as much fire, but not that he needs to. his fire could just be a smaller amount but 20x stronger for all we know.

This was all mentioned in the hypothetical fight in this video and why Ozai would probably come out on Top You guys need to stop overstating the (relative) strength of someone just because he's more likeable

@@Phoenix-King-ozai I mean, it can't change something that was never a fact to begin with. Zuko, who should be well aware of the height of his father's power, was convinced that Iroh could beat him. He also has far more peace of mind, so aside from the one example of Iroh using lightning while demonstrating it to a student, means he should be far better at utilizing it. Iroh doesn't have a lot of feats because he doesn't want to seriously hurt anyone, and never uses more power than is necessary at any given time, while Ozai is a show off. Every single thing in the entire show, aside from directly shown feats, suggests that Iroh is more than capable of bringing down Ozai.

A few things about lightning: 1. Iroh was hurt when he used lightning. 2. He was demonstrating for Zuko too. When you’re teaching someone a new move for a martial art, or anything really, you teach them slowly. 3. I don’t think how much sun is visible affects the power of your fire or lightning, just whether it’s an eclipse or not. I do agree, however, that Ozai’s lightning is most likely more powerful and could likely take less time to generate. Though I do think you underestimated Iroh’s lightning.

I feel as if when it comes to the finishing blow Iroh would hesitate, leaving room for Ozai to strike back and I doubt Ozai would hesitate 😔

Ozai's biggest weakness has always been that he underestimates people. That could be an advantage on Iroh's part. By the way we mostly see him fight a kid and a teen. So I wonder how brave he really is against a powerful adult.

I say that you have some good points, but you're missing the important ones. -Iroh was trained in bending far longer, and thus has come up with a more fluent way to do anything with it -Iroh could redirect lightning, Ozai could shoot it and do basically nothing -Iroh, during the war, when he tried, broke apart the, supposedly, toughest wall in the earth kingdom, with one of few hits. Ozai couldn't get through rock armour at his peak. -Iroh is wise, strong, and definitely has more stamina, as shown by him escaping the entirety of the fire nation from a heavy-duty prison by himself -Whole Ozai was at his peak during Sozens Comet, Iroh would also be strengthened During that time -Ozai is called the strongest Fire Bender, not a Fire Bending master, meaning while he is strong, he is not refined. Iroh is both. -We all seem to forget that Iroh basically took on 10 people at once during the ambush by Azula and the Di-Li in book 3. -Iroh is patient, waits, listens, and knows when to strike. Ozai is the Fire Bending equivalent to the Boulder.

Azula was only tired because of her breakdown , she normally has a lot of endurance, also lightning redirection is not easy it’s very dangerous to do it and Iroh was going slow to show Zuko how to do it in Ba Sing Se Iroh shot through the wall very quickly

I personally see this playing out in a similar final outcome to the Zuko/Azula fight. You can make the case for the younger sibling Ozai to be superior in terms of raw power, but Iroh is the better, smarter fighter, and the one with the clearest head. Ozai could never usurp his older brother directly- he had to kill his own father to finagle his way to the throne. That he seems to have never confronted Iroh in their youth speaks volumes to me. Ozai, for all his power, probably had the sense that he couldn’t defeat his older brother in a true fight, so he robbed him of his birthright instead of challenging him for it.

@@samo6083 Also something else and this is known as well since Zuko also employs earth bending tactics to fire-bending any powerful attacks she also throws at him can be shattered and with airbending practices avoided as seen in their three fights in the show and multiple fights in the comic's. Not to mention Katara also almost beaten her if it wasn't for Zuko in book two and even Sokka knocked Azula out with his boomerang and she was outmatched by both Aang and Katara in the book two final until zuko interfered and plus keep in mind when she'd faced all of them she took out Iroh first knowing he's the most skilled one who can beat her and the rest were tired and not in peak shape.

Even when Irohs out of his prime and shape he can still manage to take down people like admiral Zao or an entire group of fire or Earth bendere without even trying.

Season 1 Zuko beat Zhao twice, the only major Avatar villain in any Avatar property's (not including the movie since Zhao is more powerful than everyone barring Avatar State Aang) is Long Feng who is not a combatant. Its actually eaiser to make a list of people Zhao can beat.

You forget that if Aang gets killed by Ozai and Iroh has to fight him instead, he would be blessed not only by the comet but also by the power of PLOT ARMOR BABY

The example of irohs lighting generation you used was him giving zuko lessons, thats why he did it slow

The reason he used the lighting and slowly was so zuko could learn the motion

Tea bending! Or is it blending?

Ozai may have more strengh but he didn't know an essential part of fire bending like Iroh learned with dragons and I believe firebending with heart is stronger that anger. Iroh have also spiritual skills and we see it with Korra, it should not je overlooked, your bending le better when you really understand it. However very good video, I enjoy it, and you make me think and change my mind on few things!

When Iroh blasted the wall of Ba Seng Se, it was more like the combustion benders rather than regular fire bending.

I'm pretty sure the slower paced lightning generation is just to better demonstrate it to Zuko.

Here’s my take. Firelord Ozai is Anakin when he was dueling Obi Wan on Mustafar. Ozai is too “hot-headed” and would just lose to a tactician like Iroh.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Iroh comes off as a defensive master much like obi-wan and I think it would nearly mimic the Zuko-Azula fight where Ozai eventually gets frustrated and makes an over-aggressive error. On the other hand, Iroh is much older and if he made even one or two mistakes would likely give Ozai an opportunity for a fatal move.

I think the only reason iroh s lightning was slow was because he was showing Zuko how to generate his own lightning.

Umm I not but iirc weren’t even the normal fire bender soldiers on those airships putting out just as much fire as ozai? I remember them lined up next to each blazing everything

Everybody keeps talking as if ozai is the rightful firelord. He isn't. Iroh relinquish the throne, he was the older brother the throne was his. Legally if he decided he wanted to take it back he could I don't think anybody except ozai would object. You said you didn't want to challenge the throne, the throne was his by right.

The thing with iroh is he would never do that. It would cause problems with ozai and ozai would either challenge him or start his a uprising. Of course iroh wants peace so that why he wouldn’t challenge the throne

of course he wasn't chosen to be the next firelord by Azulon BUT that's what he told everyone so it became an official statement in the eyes of the people.

I honestly think that iroh held back his power because he was a minimalist.... It kinda makes me wonder... what was he like before his son died and he lost his will. Was he stronger than his father? I doubt I'll ever know since the series is pretty much dead now.... considering Korra didn't do nearly as well as TLA. But anyways, my money is on Iroh. It seems like that guy always has a plan, and like others pointed out, his demonstration of lightning to Zuko was intentionally slow so that he could take notes.... There's actually not a lot of epic fight scenes with Iroh in them..... aww... I'm kinda sad now...

Also I remember the episode about how now fire benders usually used rage when fire bending and I think that’s why Ozais bending is a bit stronger/ he’s also amazing at fire bending but I also think iroh is extremely skilled in a different way. Also ozai is way more hateful than iroh so I think ozai can beat iroh

I feel you on that but then i think about how strong goku gets when he get mad( someone who is always nice and kind) vs how strong vegeta gets when he is mad. I believe the reason of your rage will show with your fire bending. Ozai has a tendency to start to act like zhao all while iroh can keep his cool and sort of focus his rage.

This is going to come down to “Can Iroh survive Ozai’s onslaught of raw power long enough to find an opening”. I personally see no reason why he couldn’t. He can keep up with younger fighters pretty easily while retraining himself. Also, while Iroh doesn’t want to kill and is reluctant. In this kind of situation, I don’t see him being unwilling to do so. He even said to Zuko about Azula “No, she’s crazy and needs to be put down”. He will kill if it means saving the lives of countless innocent people.

The problem is why didn't iroh challenge him ever in the series. After ozai had a direct dispute with fire lord Azulon he dies that night to a mysterious disease or illness with a will that decreed that ozai should take the throne moments or days after Iroh lost his son honestly Iroh knows his father well enough to know he wouldn't have changed his will that fast. If iroh could have stopped his brother then why didn't he do so knowing how destructive he was as fire lord.

@@chriswilson7288 and to why he didnt challenge him later on is he was wandering about the world learning knew things after the loss of his son and witnessing the agni kai of your brother who is the leader of a nation and his son, your nephew, would it be in the best interest of everyone if Iroh were to step in and risk the punishment for zuko being worse and putting into question Ozai's rulership if defeated or even disrespected by his own brother in front of the fire nation?

@@barbarasaucedo5191 one iroh knows and thinks Ozai isnt a good fire lord as he sees him clearly as a tyrant not a true leader as he guides zuko to be better than his father. However if like you are arguing that Iroh is stronger then why not challenge and beat the tyrant so you can restore peace or stop this evil. And while ill admit he cudnt possibly rule mentally after losing his son and father again you pretend like after mourning they deaths he cudnt do the right thing and dethrone ozai which if he knows his brother isn't right on how he rules their kingdom. And the fact that Iroh never challenges him even after the agni kai against zuko (which agni kai s are normally to the death but zuko forfeited once his father actually hurt him.) Or the fact that Iroh being his father most trusted son he should have known or thought it was foul play at hand with ozai rise to power since azulon will was intended for Iroh but he supposedly changed the will last second before a "mysterious death" to Ozai. What you are incentivizing is Iroh after mourning was either too lazy or unbothered to stop his brother evil rule all because he rather not deal with it even though he is stronger and now mentally more capable of being a peaceful firelord that wouldn't rule through fear and tyranny.

@@chriswilson7288 i am saying that iroh wasnt capable of looking into his father Azulons death and maybe not even being bothered to care as i told you he was torn down enough from his sons death to retreat from Ba sing Se and even go to the spiritual world to seek his son while the fire kingdom was having a change in ruler and mission. He was not a good person prior to his sons death so afterword do you think that as soon as his son died he became the man we see in the series? No it took taking a step back and wandering theworld while looking for his dead son and traveling into the spirit world for him for iroh to be more sure of himself. He now says that he regrets not doing anything for Zuko which is why when Zuko was exiled he went with him. Iroh is not perfect he is human too and he has admitted his faults and regrets which is why if given the chance to right his wrongs in a fight with Ozai he wouldnt hesitate to kill him.Yes iroh had good in him since he saved the last dragons but he still was going to invade and forcefully submit thousands of civilians from Ba Sing Se so not exactly a saint from the start which makes it hard to believe that he would suddenly do all the right things when he was at least in a morally grey area prior to the life changing event that was his son's death. Also why would he challenge ozai and throw the whole nation into chaos which wouldnt be resolved well enough because as he said it would look like a brother killing a brother for the throne so no significant change could be set in place from the very foundation if it was perceived as more violence for power. I also think that iroh didnt want to be fire lord and if he took over would zuko hate him? What would happen with Azula? Any decision he would make would look bad since its they way he got the power and there would be dissonance withing the ranks and military against iroh. Would he individually be capable of handling all that while being mentally unstable?

All these guys saying that "but the creators said that" no the guy that said ozai is better is an ASSISTANT writer for a FEW episodes

Iroh broke his chain without his fire binding

Iroh would've won, because Zuko could've killed him w/ a lightning bolt but chose to redirect it elsewhere (Aang did the same). Iroh invented lightning redirection & could've done the same. The writers should've just made Iroh plainly stated that he refused to fight Ozai because his son already died & he couldn't bare to kill his own brother.

@giveagoodsong Well, unfortunately, there were future problems. After all, Ozai was not killed, so much of the Fire Nation still believed he should remain the Firelord. You find out in the comics that take place after the series that a good share of the nation sought to put Ozai back in power, and to remove Zuko.

Eli Axelrad wrote ... Iroh. It would be brutal and Iroh would be burnt all over. Ozai has raw power and talent, but Iroh is smarter, has more well rounded technique (moves like an earthbender, thinks like a waterbender), more patient. Also while Ozai is definately more powerful, Iroh rarely cuts loose all the way so his raw power is hard to gauge. Best way to counter power is with skill - Mace Windu. Also, when Iroh used lightning, it was when he was demonstrating the technique. For all we know he may very well be able to conjure it just as fast as Ozai. But hey that's only my opinion. Cool vid dude!

I cannot agree more. Ozai is a bit more powerful. But Iroh is not far behind. When talking about Ba Sing Se, don't forget that they were liberating the city, therefore trying to cause as little damage to it as possible. Iroh (and any of the White lotus) could likely cause much more damage, but that is not what they were trying to do. On the other hand, Ozai was just burning the world to ash so he could go all out. And yes he can use lightning pretty fast. He blew a hole in a wall while running from dai li agents, I am sure he didn't have much tame to charege it up.

On that note about liberating the city, I want to add that Iroh was blowing a hole through a stone wall whereas Ozai was just setting the forest on fire... In terms of power I would think explosive fireball would be stronger than streams of flame?

I think Iroh is the most complete fire bender to ever live. Avatars excluded of course. Having the ability to use lightning and redirect and having met the dragons and sun warriors and other elements. But I think he’s far past his prime in the show. However both in their prime, iroh hands down

I have to disagree simply given Iroh's personality. He always very humble, never lauding his own abilities. While Ozai may have more raw power, Iroh definitely has the skill advantage. As we saw, Ozai DID NOT know the technique of lightning redirection, a technique Iroh himself invented. I think its fair to say Iroh is definitely the more strategic of the two while Ozai is more focused around one strategy : overwhelm. I feel confident in saying iroh knows his brother well enough to maneuver him into a position where, like in that fight with Aang, lightning redirection would be his downfall. The difference is Aang couldnt fully go through with it and stopped the attack short, whereas I believe Iroh would do it if it had to be done and choose to live with yet another burden rather than letting his brother go unchallenged any longer

Iroh would just kill Ozai with lightning redirection. Aang could have killed him that way, but chose not to. The fight would have just ended there with Iroh.

★ Froggie Animation ★ Iroh has a much deeper understanding of firebending. as he was taught by the original fire benders the dragons. as for Antonie analyses of ozais sustained firebloom on the trees of earth kingdom. who knew that trees are not a good match up for fire.

Everybody talking about Iroh's skill, but nobody talking about how ozai doesn't even have his bending, so Iroh wins by default.

@@kendivedmakarig215 nah I don't exactly remember where I heard this but there's many official sources on the creators of the series themselves claiming ozai is the strongest and most versatile firebender.

Iroh would definitely go in with a plan. Besides, ozai's weakness was proven to be redirecting lightening. In the two fights we saw ozai in, he used lightening so it's safe to assume he would do it again and Iroh would redirect it.

I feel like Irohs voice actor changing flowed perfectly into the gradual build up in seriousness of the final season

Valid points. Though I recall Iroh generating lightning much faster while escaping the Dai Li in Ba Sing Se

@@chiefcleve1834 Yeah, but that was more equivalent to boom-boom man's explosive compression thing. Iroh sent a compressed powerful blast against a small section of the wall to minimize damage yet still create an effective entrance. The White Lotus was there to liberate Ba Sing Se, not damage it further. Iroh demonstrated both great power and great skill by doing that, not just unrestrained fury.

@@chiefcleve1834 Even so, between Iroh's injury and the fact he was demonstrating for Zuko are major factors. No one trying to teach something does it quickly while demonstrating how to do it. That scene really wasn't a fair demonstration of Iroh's ability, as he really wasn't going for speed or power, merely a basic presentation.

Power doesn’t necessarily win over skill. I think Iroh has better skill.

Ozai spent his life barking orders, training, and relaxing. You're seriously gonna try to claim Ozai has more combat experience? Iroh was a general on the FRONT LINES, Ozai was a sheltered Fire Lord in an impenetrable palace where nobody could ever challenge him, and they shared the same legendary ancestry. How this is even a question for anyone I don't understand. Would one win over the other in terms of raw power? No idea. But Iroh is superior in skill, knowledge of the art, and tactics. Period.

If you're going to use the instance he was teaching zuko how to use lightning then yeah he's gonna go slow because who learns something they don't know by watching it done too fast to take note. You also mention iroh had slow fire in what instance does he do any firebending slowly. This is the guy was an general in his nations military you don't get to that position without being really damn good. I'd also like you to point out which bit of my previous statement was my opinion.

From what I remember he's pretty fast like when in the first couple episodes zuko had that agni kai against ziao (think that's how you spell his name) when ziao went for that cheap shot iroh was fast enough to get there and shut that down. He was also a pretty fast fighter at the end of book 2 protecting aang and katara. Iroh can be pretty fast

Iroh lightning is slower because he is teaching Zuko, and one other thing that Iroh one shot the city wall.

Remember though that being in touch with your energy and the spirituality of the the universe makes you more powerful. Iron was in touch and was conscientious about other living things and beings. So therefore Iroh is and was the more powerful sibling.

14:34- it is worth remembering that he fought his entire way through a jail in the capital of the fire nation(so having more guards) that he was held on the top floor of and ran on foot away from the capital, all while resembling “a one man army” during around the time we’d assume this takes place. He might be older but his stamina isn’t something to scoff at.

You earn the name dragon by killing a dragon. Iroh spared the dragons. His name is not legit.

I think iroh might have a hard time but because he studied all the other elements and learned from them who would come out on top in the end, even if all banged up or beat up. Ozai would only see and study fire. It was made clear that studying the other elements can make you more powerful too which Iroh embodies. So while he might take a whoopin, he would come out in the end. Pure fire bending alone can't win against the knowledge and experience of all the other elements combined with firebending, lightning and redirection.
