i think half the reason voldie was even close to physically manifesting himself through the diary was because it was his first horcrux and had the largest portion of soul compared to the other horcruxes making it much more likely to bring him back fully

Yup. In fact, it would probably be easier to bring back that soul than prime's because of that. If the Riddle diary wanted to become the true Voldemort, it had the best qualifications to do so. In the end, it WAS more Voldemort than Voldemort.

Does nearsighted mean you struggle to see things far away or close up? I can never remember which one it is - nearsighted makes it sound like you can only see close-up things clearly. (I have glasses, BTW, and I'm still confused by all this.)

I think the idea is that Voldemort "Prime" is attempting to come back through the Horcrux. They don't necessarily bring another Voldemort to life, they simply anchor the original from full on death. The form he took before these rituals was less than a ghost, until he tried coming back through other means. Notice the Diary version of him is younger, perhaps what he looked like when he created it? This would also explain why he looks like a Snake, because he used the same method but with Nagini. He basically comes back as a reflection of the specific Horcrux used. So without Voldemort's primary soul, the Horcrux would simply be as he put it, a memory.

Here’s a question for you, Ben and Jay, that I would like you to answer in a video some day: Why didn’t Voldemort hide a Horcrux in the Chamber of Secrets? I mean it seems much more fitting than the Room of Requirement. In fact, I’m actually baffled that the trio or Dumbledore never even discussed it as a potential hiding place for Horcruxes since it seems like the most obvious place for Voldemort to hide something he wouldn’t want others to access.

I think the reason is the diary. Voldemort created the diary with the express purpose of one day using it to make someone else open the chamber of secrets. Should this plan go wrong the chamber could be compromised or discovered along with anything else that's in it, like a hidden horcrux.

Maybe the Diary was different because as far as I know, it’s the only horcrux that had a immediate connection to Voldemort. I mean it was literally his diary, he poured his soul into that book, so it could’ve been inadvertently enchanted just by Tom putting his emotions and thoughts into it, so by the time it had become a horcrux, it already had all of 16 year old Toms personality downloaded, almost a clone of you will.

This is very possible, but it's not really 16 years as we know he bought the diary when he went to diagon alley for the first time, before his first year. So it's more like 5 years, but everything else makes sense. EDIT: Turns out I misread the original comment as he said 16 year old Tom and not that he's been writing in the diary for 16 years, so just ignore this comment and pretend it never happened 🤣.

I don’t think killing Ginny would automatically create a horcrux. If you remember in the memory in Half Blood Prince Tom asks Slughorn about the process and he responds “there is a spell. Don’t ask me, I’ve never tried it. Do I look like a killer?” So Ginny’s death may work towards splitting Diary Tom’s soul he would still need to perform the remaining portion of the ritual if he wanted to create the additional Horcrux.

The main difference with the diary is that Voldemort put a copy of his consciousness into it alongside a part of his soul.

I think this is a huge part of it. But like mentioned the locket had understanding. I think all of them could have eventually possessed others like It did Jenny. Also voldy himself created the magic to come back. Their had to be a different path to come back and I think his diary found it. The emotional connection between both Jenny and the diary is what made it work. Lastly because of what I just said I think the reunification between diary and prime would have been the typical way to make the horacrox work in the first place.

No no no. Young Tom was just a variant. Luckily the TVA Potter was there.

So the ultimate question: HOW is Voldie’s soul split? In equal “slices” or divided in half each time? I personally believe the latter. It would explain why each Horcrux seems to have “less” Soul than their predecessors. Starting with 50%Diary and ending with less than 1%Voldy Prime. So technically, Harry would be more Voldemort than Voldemort. Also, we know Tom wanted to make 7, but how was that a guarantee? How would he plan to anchor an equal Soul Slice each time? Having a Soul divide automatically makes more logical sense to me.

I completely agree that his soul gets divided in half each time, I also think that is why Voldemort gradually looks less and human, whereas after he creates the diary horcrux he still looks normal, if a little pastier, and the version of him that comes out of the diary still has his good looks.

Well that was one of Voldy's greatest "powers" before the horcruxes. He was cunning and manipulative but everyone who went to Hogwarts with him thought he was awesome because he was gifted and very attractive.The only person who saw through him was Dumbledore.

The norwegian translation actually fixes the "I am" issue. "Tom Dredolo Venster" anagramed his name to "Voldemort den Store" which means "Voldemort the great" The norwegian translation is in my opinion a work of art, and this is one of its best moments.

I thought the reason Tom Riddle came back was because Voldemort put the memory of his sixteen-year-old self into the diary? I thought that was a totally different bit of magic to the Horcrux, a double magical artifact if you will. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The way I see it, the diary Horcrux was made with its specific functions as a deliberate backup plan. This was Tom's first Horcrux, back when he was more cautious, more cunning, and hadn't let his arrogance overtake him the way it did later on. It was a safety precaution in the event that something happened to him before he could get his other Horcruxes up and running, plus he never got to fulfill his role as the Heir of Slytherin since he only managed to kill Myrtle and as such, had unfinished business. But once he got the rest of his Horcruxes set up and became more powerful, there was no need for the diary's functions outside of being a Horcrux.

J: is there 8 Voldemort’s? We’re basically just talking about the show LOKI through a Harry Potter lens.

Bit of a counter-theory: I think the diary would have still been the Horcrux even if Riddle had manifested a physical body, and this version would be significantly weaker than the "real" Voldemord, as Dumbledore stated that even if his soul was mangled and weak, his mind and importantly his magical power was not, so it's not like his power was divided between each piece of soul, so this version of Riddle would have only been as powerful as Ginny was at the time. There's also the question of if that body would be "permanent", after all, life force is not infinite, and I would think that the body that the diary creates is more like a doll for it to inhabit rather than a complete human body with all the internal organs and blood and all that, so I doubt that the other Horcruxes would keep that body from fading eventually, specially if it's still tethered to the Diary itself. going from this, I believe that after obtaining his new body, young voldemort would have gone in search of Voldemort prime to help it regain his physical form, much like Wormtail would do later on.

I could see young Voldemort seeing old Voldemort as weak and as having failed, but also afraid to kill him for fear of what it would do to himself.

You need to remember that each time he was cutting his soul in two, therefore by the 7th time, it was only 1/128th of his soul. Therefore I believe due to the power diminishing per time, they were less and less capable Horcrauxes.

I don't think it's half. It's never said your soul rips in half when you kill someone, only that it gets torn. Chances are the main "body" of the soul remains intact, but it starts tearing off tiny fragments. I'd guess that all the horcruxes have roughly equal pieces, and if we have to assign a value, they're each less than 5% of a "whole soul."

Diary Tom might go hunting the other horcruxes to "conquer" and reabsorb them, had Harry not stopped him. If the soul is split in half each time, he was already more Voldemort than the disembodied Voldemort at that time. He could simply do the same hunt as Harry did later with the inevitable end goal of "absorbing" the original. Also, had he succeeded in killing Harry, that is when he would have "learned" how to do this, absorbing the tiniest piece of Voldemort that was no longer part of Voldemort from Harry and learning everything Voldemort knew when Harry defeated him as an infant, including what each of the other horcruxes were. What a tale of evil adventure that would be, ending with a terrible battle of Voldy vs. Voldy for dominance. Perhaps this happened in an alternate timeline...

Killing Harry wouldn't have let him absorb the part of his soul that Harry had. It would've just died the same way it later died when Voldemort cast the killing curse years later in the forest. The main difference being that Harry wouldn't return since his blood hadn't linked him to Voldy prime yet

Dumbledore explains this. Harry's wand recognizes Voldemort, not his wand. It managed to imbibe some of Voldemort's powers after the graveyard scene. And hence was exceptionally powerful against him.

We need a Harry Potter and Rick and Morty crossover specifically with the Mortplicity episode. Horcruxes creating horcruxes to the point that the horcruxes doesn't know how many horcruxes there are and who is who and who is the original non horcrux.

Morty Potter and the Rickoner of the Citadel, where Rick makes horcruxes of himself. The twist ending is that he was at blips and chitz playing one of those games that takes over your consciousness and awareness, and he ends up getting the high score.

I think If Diary Voldemort fully came back, Voldemort Prime would quickly become telepathically linked. Like how at one point Harry was seeing through Voldemort's (and Nagini's) eyes... I think this would actually be something like multiboxing in an RPG. Just one consciousness with two bodies. Voldemort would quickly realize how insanely OP that is, and probably figure out a way to create new bodies for more of his horcruxes. He'd still be immortal as long as they all weren't killed at the same time.

I personally think since it was the first horcrux he made it had the most "voldemort" in it. Since the whole cutting the soul in half thing is needed to create a horcrux, the diary would have 50% of voldemort in it

If the horcruxes did become tom riddle, I could see them become the version of Tom present when the horcrux was created. The diary was a young Tom with the rest of them becoming a more decrepid version of him as they went along, and that was why the thing in Kings Cross was so creepy and deformed.

Well, what if they’re supposed to be a corrupting force? If someone weak enough wears, say, the locket for long enough, they themselves become sort of a manifestation of Voldy? Even Harry, had he not been taken care of and given friends and been surrounded by teachers who are helping him resist the part of him that is Voldemort, could very likely have turned into a dark master. His entire story of being abused as a child could just as easily have been the backstory to a badass villain. With that childhood trauma, and the sudden realization that he had superpowers, why wouldn’t it be easy for him to decide to kill all muggles and be master of the wizarding world himself - thus making the voldy part of him achieve its goal through him. Maybe the ring wouldn’t kill someone if they were worthy enough to wear it. Okay, I’m drawing blanks on Nagini, but overall I think it could make sense.

If every time Voldemort makes a horcrux it splits his soul in half wouldn't the Diary Voldemort be the strongest Voldemort regardless of which is the 'original voldy' because it has the highest percentage of soul?

Doesn’t split in half. Never stated half. Just split. Could be 1 percent for all we know. Nature does it, not Voldemort. And could use infinitesimals which still would cause damage to a non complete soul, encouraging ppl to not murder, yet if they do, it’s very minimal to the amount of soul you have so the choice is yours to make. It makes sense this way. Everyone has free will and is responsible for their own choices. Therefore Voldemort would always have more soul than any other version of himself after. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t be him. He’d be someone else. So it has to be this way.

There's no reason to assume that souls obey math like cutting a piece of cake. This is metaphysics, not mathematics.

I think the only reason the diary was able to possibly transition into a new Voldemort is because as a horcrux and a diary not only did it have a portion of Voldie's soul but an imprint of his memories and personality. Of course this would only got him to where Tom Riddle was when he stopped writing in the diary. Of course he does know of some events from after that time from what Jenny and Harry put into the diary but those would not have the same weight in this new Tom Riddle because while they do pertain to his original they would not be something he experienced. To him they would be along the lines of having amnesia and someone trying to tell you about things you did in your missing time. The other Horcruxes did have those smaller and smaller fragments of Voldemort's soul but they did not have that imprint of memory and personality that Tom Riddle's diary did.

This could make sense though I think that with a more developed body and stronger soul I feel like it would be easier for the horcrux to gain new sensory input and essentially live beyond that

The diary was more than just a horcrux, though. It was also a record of his memory at that time of his life, and a weapon for possessing others to carry out his work for him. The combination of these things probably created the Tom Riddle manifestation.

If Tom had succeeded in stealing Ginny's lifeforce, Ginny's essence would be transferred into the diary, and Tom would have a physical form. At which case he would seek out what was left of his original body and merge with it; much like Voldemort attached itself to Quirrell.

Agree! Then, the two fragments of soul would be in the same being, but would not merge together again, because Riddle would not manifest any remorse.

@@DONK0 they would have merged. Riddle would of just sought out his original self to give his original self the most power possible. Lord Voldemort is the true Riddle, remember it was all riddles choices that led him to being Lord Voldemort. He fashioned the name himself! He believed in everything he became and no one forced thier will on Voldemort ever! So he definitely would have approved of his future self and done everything to make sure he never loses or dies.

Right. I don't think Riddle from the diary ever could have fully become Voldemort again by himself. There was no bone of the father, flesh of the servant, blood of the enemy involved in the diary/Ginny incident. He may well have gained enough power and "life force" to manifest a physical body, but he would then still need to do the full resurrection ritual to become Voldemort fully. And for that, he'd probably need that withered "baby" body.

They would not have merged did you not watch this video, the only way to rejoin soul fragments is by remorse, which voldemort is incapable of doing. And phil, the potion used to revive voldimort was only necessary because he didn't have a vessel. The diary method used ginny's life force to recreate tom's body and in turn killing ginny. The potion isnt the only way to revive. Voldemort said himself that he invented it.

I think Voldemort's soul fragment was transferring from the diary into the world so once that was completed the diary would have ceased to become a horcrux.

Dude the video as soon as he said, "buffering error," the video would not stop buffering! LOL

I think this fits well with the theory that the souls are not equal pieces Like the diary is 50% of Voldemort’s soul while Harry is only like 1.5% Voldemort

One small hole with what you're saying throughout this whole thing is that simply murdering somebody doesn't generate a horcrux. There's some kind of ritual involved, and the only reason why Harry was made into a horcrux was because of special circumstances. I don't think Ginny would have been turned into a horcrux

Would all the Voldemort’s work together or fight each other? I think he’s so narcissistic that, even though it IS himself, each Voldemort would only care for themselves and not about any other versions of himself. Maybe they wouldn’t fight right away, but it feels like they would eventually. Another question, what if you made a horcrux and accidentally felt complete and utter remorse? Would you just end up really mad that you fixed yourself by accident? Also, “he was like one buffering error away from existing” and “Voldemort prime” are hilarious Edit: oops you kinda answered the “would they fight” question

Imagine if there were multiple cauldrons and in the fourth movie Pettigrew threw all the horcruxes in the cauldrons and created multiple voldemorts.

8 Voldemorts, I think it would be possible (if not for the death curse on the ring) you explained the Diary the locket, if the trio had not passed it around and one of them had become more and more emotionally vulnerable, the piece of soul might have transferred over, than slowly taking over same would go for many others, except the diadem, which gives knowledge to the wearer. as a horcrux, it might pass on Voldemort's thoughts to the wearer. the wearer learns dark magic, goes power hungry, growl close to the diadem, the piece of soul enters them, Voldy takes over as for Harry, if he had been introduced to the use of dark magic and its uses,... like say; if he got sorted into Slytherin, being told over and over how noble Voldy's purpose was, maybe believing that, he would actually draw more strongly on that piece of Voldemort's soul, eventually having him take over.

@@deeperb3auty exactly, film theorists said the same thing, but differently because every time your soul is cut in half. Though this is assuming we can count on the explanation given being 100% accurate and not a dumbed down way of how one splits their soul. If murder just allows the soul to be split if you follow the secret horcrux creation guide then this is changed. Though it's been said that the act of killing rips the soul apart and from that soul fragment the creation process begins.

This whole thing is proof that she didn't know she was gonna write about Horcruxes back when she wrote the Chamber. Which is alright, nobody is perfect, no fictional universe can be perfect

She knew it at least as far back as Goblet of Fire, it seems. Maybe even during writing Prisoner of Azkaban, since Dumbledore referenced the prophecy there. I think that’s still impressive planning. However, the whole ‘Voldemort transferred some of his powers into Harry’ explanation in Chamber of Secrets still suggests she at least had a vague idea about why Voldemort could continue to live on. Actually, I think she had the horcruxes in mind from the very beginning but perhaps she hadn’t yet settled on what abilities the horcruxes should have beyond being preserved fragments of Voldemort.

Personally I think she had the "horcrux" in her head from the beginning, not just fleshed out in total (e.g. seven of them, rules and setups for it or how it will link things together), which she began to develop in the second book and then from the fourth book on, everything was already planned and layed out. Actually regarding the "horcrux" itself it wasn't really her idea. As for many other things she just borrowed from fantasy. Tolkien had the concept of splitting your soul and putting a part of it in a seperate object, which will then bind your existance to the living world as just an incorporeal form, preventing your death... long time before her. 😂 She just refined it with the magic of the HP world and gave it a name.

Hard to say as by the 6th, since he's starting with 50% of a soul he'd already be at less than 1%, theoretically there should be a minimum amount of your soul you need to split it. Even the original is below 2% just to get 7.

I think your assessment is spot on, based on my knowledge of a similar concept from DnD: the Lich. Specifically in Pathfinder, there are other types of Liches as well. The traditional Lich binds their soul to a phylactery, a magical item they prepare to house their soul through nebulously defined "dark rituals". If they die while their phylactery is intact, their body reforms after around a week. There is also a specific alternative kind of lich called a Psychic Lich that instead binds their soul as well as their consciousness to an object or location of significant value in their life, such as a diary or the location they defeated their greatest enemy. That version of a lich reforms so long as someone has significant memories or emotional ties to the Lich. Finally, there's a variant called a Familial lich that instead binds themselves to a specific bloodline or group of close friends. When they die, those Liches possess the body of of one of those people and slowly takes them over until the original person no longer remains. In all cases, destroying the lich does nothing as long as the phylactery (or horcrux or strong memory or member of the group) remains as the lich can still come back. On the other hand, if you manage to destroy the phylactery, it doesn't kill the lich unless it's still in the process of reforming. If the lich has fully reformed, it is basically a new person and has to be dealt with as normal.
