Cottonmouths Chasing People?! Putting It To The Test!!!
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
A week ago I posted a Short on a cottonmouth we found in the swamp a few years back and how it reacted to my presence. Of course this led people to leave many comments defending their beliefs in defense of this footage.
One common tactic of “pro-chasers” are using the logical fallacy “Moving the Goal Post”. This is when despite providing evidence, it’s not good enough and greater evidence is required, often with more stipulations. In this case I “didn’t move enough”, “didn’t find it on land”, etc. in the Short.
Well, in this video we cater to the “pro-chasers” by scoring those “goals” too!

We have cottonmouths where I live and I have never heard of any of them chasing anyone, even when they feel threatened all I have ever seen them do is coil up and open their mouth as a warning, and musk......I think the urban myth of being chased came from someone standing in between the snake and where it wanted to go.
I tell people all time that snakes don't chase people because there's nothing in it for them other than death, and animals don't do things that are not to their advantage. It makes some people think, but still others are too thick-headed to understand what should be obvious facts.
This is great!
Found a cottonmouth yesterday, a chase took place, except it was me chasing him. I wanted to take a picture but he wouldn’t stay in one place, he kept running away from me. So I decided to leave him alone, he now lives in the pond on the property. His name is Cottonmouth Joe now.

Right! I’m also a photographer and this is exactly what I tell people! I want nothing more than to get more shots of them in situ in the swamp but NOOOO they haul tail every time!

Obviously you needed to get IN FRONT of the snake so it could chase you...😂
Great video
I'm Always told that I'm in the wrong area, that the cottonmouths in other areas are "meaner"

@@thatsnakeguy2074 The ones in NE Ohio are really bad, or so people tell me ;-)
Cottonmouths, like every other snake, are essential to the ecosystem.
My neighbors loves to kill any snake indiscriminately, I've told them many time to let me know and I'll come get it. Nope, just another story with a smile "chopped it's head right clean off!" They set up a chicken coop with too big of wire and too young of chickens and a Rat snake got in there and ate two of them. They were mad the snake ate the chickens. Mind boggling.

I've found that the first thing some do people when they find out you like snakes is to tell you about all the ones they've killed. I finally got fed up and told one guy "You know to me talking about killing a snake is the same as telling me you killed a puppy or a kitten". The guy looked dumbfounded.

@@Smokkedandslammed So? Snakes don't deserve to be killed for no reason any more than any other animal. So yes I look at snake killers the same I would dog and cat killers - they're scum.
Dumb stuff. I've never seen a snake chase anyone. If you get bit the you surprised the snake, most likely by stepping on it. That's why I think snake shot is the stupidest thing ever made. If you see a snake you are not going to be bit by it as you can just move away. If you are bit by the snake shooting it aint going to stop it from biting you. Really, you would have to shoot the snakes head and and your leg at the same time, and it will still probably be latched onto you.
