They were doing it on stage, so I think they looked serious because they were probably all for concentrating very hard on not making a mistake. I The video is French, so I don't suppose the women learned the dance in school or at camp, as it seems from other posts that all Americans do! I don't know the dance either and it looks quite complicated. I think this is a great video to watch for learning the dance steps. Like most people, I expect that the dancers had a lot of fun as they were rehearsing for their performance. 🙂

This brings back memories, I used to line dance as a kid here in the UK and I remember doing this dance to Cotton Eye Joe, and I'm sure it was a new song out so would have been 1995 when it was released - nearly 30 years ago now!! God I feel old

I’m actually born from the south and grew up in the south and I have been listening to Cotton Eye Joe on repeat lately so it’s only right learning how to dance it.

This just came on my Spotify and instantly brought me back to the kids doing Folk Fest. It is a dance festival the kids do at school. Every school in our district learns the dances, and they have a whole afternoon of dancing at one of the high schools.

I learned this when I was in high school, at a robotics competition probably 2007 or 2008 and this became my mascot dance seeing as I was mascot of my robotics team! I just learned it on the fly watching everyone else do the dance!
