Hi, Linda! I am recently widowed, have decided to move, and just yesterday purchased an historic home built in the late 1800s. Your video inspired me to get creative, mix old and new and not be afraid to be eclectic. Thank you for all you do. You're fabulous! - Carla

@@LindaVater YES! Thank you! I will be following you for inspiration.
Hi Linda , your beautiful pieces of artwork on the white walls have the look of a lived in art gallery - it’s just beautiful.
Love that you have two kinds of rugs on your parlour.
Just so special to see the progress you have made. Your details are delightful! About your attic treasures; we recently closed out my father's home, my childhood home. There were so many special finds of our childhood and memories have been triggered daily as I delve into boxes and boxes of goodies and grubbies. 50 years of my family's life! Thank you for sharing these treasures. Isn't the unexpected exhillerating?
Linda I too am in the end process of moving to a new home. Just like you leaving a beloved home and gardens of 32 years. I, like you am in my 60’s. Your emotions of leaving your home paralleled with mine as we were moving same time as you. Love, love your blogs. You are a true inspiration and wealth of information. I also am a thrifter and avid gardener. I look forward to your work in progress in your new home and gardens. I will be working here in Wisconsin right along with you on my blank slate. Congratulations on your new venture.
Yes, vanity seat. Love all of your art work. Things are really beginning to take shape. I’m enjoying every minute. Thx for sharing your adventures.
Being Danish, I was intrigued by the bottle, as I have never seen that before in Denmark. Georg Bestle was a vintner and wine merchant born 1855-1933, although I believe the business continued after. I have yet to figure out the year these bottles were produced. The bottles came with the music box already built in, and apparently it played while you poured the drink! Lovely video, thank you

Your home is really coming along! It does look like a vanity chair. Perfect for your bathroom
I do believe it is a vanity seat! So sweet!
Blessings on your new home.. and prayers and blessing to you and your family. Your such an inspiration! 🙏
LOVE your new home, Linda! Thank you for showing us the “real world” move-in. 😊 It truly is exhausting & you’re a superwoman! Looking forward to following your exciting new journey & especially the landscape & gardens transformation. Have you ever considered a small hobby greenhouse? My husband and sons installed one for me last fall. It’s amazing! I have 80 red geranium seedlings coming up after 4 days. Blessings & enjoy your new home & gardens. 🌸🪴💕
You have great style, Linda!
I’ve moved into a smaller home and still have boxes unpacked. I use feeling bad because of it. I live alone and my best friend who helped me pack has been sick for the past year. So I’m doing it my self. I’m putting in a new kitchen because the cabinets are small and there was a unusable space that I’m going to put in a pantry. Seeing your home makes me feel better and not so unorganized. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Bathroom outlet that does not work: check to see if there is a tripped GFI it is in series with. The GFI outlet may be in some weird place (one of min was in the garage, about as far from the bathroom as it could get.). Love how you are getting nested in your brew home.

When we moved into a new house, it was interesting to discover where the gfi outlets were located.

Many GFCIs are now an actual breaker located in the panel. The reset is right on the breaker itself. It is not dangerous to reset this yourself, push off and then back on.
What a GREAT house, Linda!! The layout is just marvelous! And I so love all the "attic treasures" you have found! I think you are right about the bathroom chair being for a dressing table....I LOVE it and love your idea of putting a terrycloth cushion on top. Oh, how I remember the stenciling of our Subject folders for school! Wow, the advice I would give my "younger self"! LOL... Thanks for our first of many strolls at your new abode! Sending love and blessings your way...
Oh my God! The stencils! Loved them. They were so cool. Those school books look just like mine! Hahaha What a riot. I'd have a very nice fluffy cushion - pink or white - on that vanity stool. Super nice!!
Thank you for showing us chaos. It’s good to be real, like the Velveteen Rabbit.
Love the sweet bench in the bathroom!!!
I moved a little over a year ago…the nesting is certainly a labor of love!!
I have been following You Linda for long before the Story Book Cottage but have never commented. I am so enjoying your updates. I am in a different state and gardening zone, yet I feel I learn so much from You. I can not wait for the new garden updates!
Absolutely, that is a vanity bench. It's very nice. I looked for one forever. I finally decided to use an antique chair that needs painting and reupholstering.
I have been so looking forward to the next Linda update. I check every day!
Wow! You are really progressing with the house Linda! Just beautiful as always! Thank you and Stewart for bringing us along!! Looking forward to each video!
I love you sharing your new home and I’m so happy for you. Can’t wait to see how it all turns out. ❤
Wow Linda the lighting in the new house is super white, really a different vibe from your warm candle light off white interior of your previous set.
Thrifting the attic, yes indeed, beautiful curves on the vanity bench! Love how you are managing the initial chaos of moving in and everything is coming together so beautifully. Hubs made a real cameo, it would be very interesting to have a Q&A with the two of you.
My father bought a vanity seat like that for my mom when she was regnant with my little sister circa 1965 there was a big embroidered cushion and matched tassels on the handles.
Thank you both for this so entertaining and awesome video! Love the finds Linda, the house is welcoming you with all these gifts! Stuart I really love hearing you talk in the videos!!!! Your laundry is much bigger than your other home. Love the art you brought there. You guys are the perfect team.!!!!
The little bench you found in the attic is a gem! What a great find!
Great attic finds. As one with a paper crafting hobby, those old papers got my attention. That's the sort of thing people like me love to find in attics, thrift stores, anywhere really. That vanity bench looks right at home in your bathroom, your reward for servicing your furnace. ~ Lisa
I agree your attic find is a vanity stool and it had a cushion. I’ve seen them out of a floral fabric. Love everything you’re doing. Thanks for sharing.
So excellent to hear from you, Linda! I've been wondering how things have been going. I love the treasures you found in your attic! Things are looking great! All good things come in due time. You are wise in understanding this as you give yourself grace and time for your home to come together. Our homes are worth the time and effort to make them just like we want them. Looking forward to a thrifting trip with you, too!
What a great attic find, that vanity seat!! So glam looking & so perfect for you & your bathroom! All the pictures look nice where you hung, was wondering where you would hang that bull that was so perfect above the fireplace in your old home. I especially like the new wicker shades in your parlor between the fireplace. Tks for sharing progress of your new home! 🏡 Have fun putting it all together.
Your home is coming along and I am so glad you share it with us. So many would wait until they had everything in place and tidy, but I’m like you; it is what it is right now and will become what it should be.
I am thrilled that we get to go on this fun journey of creating new spaces with you (and Stewart) I love what you are doing inside and can't wait to see what you do on the outside- you inspire me so much Linda, thank you!
You should add the diamond pattern muttons on the windows in the living room (tv room). I think it would be beautiful
Fun update video! Many thanks for sharing! Love your new home. 🥰
Wow I LOVE the red lamp in the hallway beside the red painting ! The area looks beautiful
Yes it is a vanity bench, I have a similar one, love your bathroom Linda, you are doing a good job!!!!!!!!😊😊😊
One of the best things about moving is finding new uses and spaces for your stuff...like that little table. It makes you rethink and makes you even more creative. You're making great progress. So enjoying this.

Linda I’m loving following along on your decorating journey and I have to say I love the look of the blinds in your parlor. Where are they from?
Love the idea of little bowls and vintage butterpats as match holders!
Vanity seat, Linda! 🙌🙌😁
Your storybook cottage would be beautiful with outside brick painted white or cream or lime washed.
Linda, loving your new home. Fun to watch your decorating progress.
Love finding old things in old houses. House is looking so warm and inviting.
I am a new subscriber, and I do love and appreciate it when you update all new people on facts about your life. I found you by watching the video on your cottage. That led me to have SO MANY QUESTIONS like, who is Stewart?? 😂lol I have enjoyed watching the past videos and getting caught up. 😂 looking forward to your new adventures
Reference to the laundry room cabs….Lowes sells stocked Diamond brand shaker style cabinets. Affordable and look nicer then the off the shelf cabinets you usually find.
Loved the update from you and Stewart today. I do remember Peter Pan peanut butter and I laughed out loud when you showed how that old bottle once played, "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow". Your new place is shaping up to be so charming and colorful. The artwork in the kitchen is just breathtaking. You have so many wonderful pieces and its amazing how the light enhances everything. It made me especially happy when you said you love your new house. That's the best. ❤
😍❤😍LOVING What you have done thus far..Thank you for sharing..😍❤😍
Love the new house!
This was such a fun video ! That little “table “ that was next to hubs chair , the one in the hallway , might have been a fish tank stand . My brother had a 50 gallon fish tank on one and also a smaller stand in his bedroom. That looked just like it . Now that you have switched to a wood table in the dining area, l am relieved 😅. The designer that we are currently working with , talked me out of a glass top dining table or any glass top table in my empty nester home . She said that she has seen or heard of many awful accidents with both children or adults with glass top tables . Since l am a grandmother of young active boys , l decided against a glass top anything 😬 Your new home is coming together beautifully !!
I have really missed you. You are always so upbeat and cheerful. I’m loving the updates on the home and can’t wait to see the garden plans.
New to your channel and you and your husb and very relatable to my husband and I!! We moved from our large custom built home that we built on a beautiful one and a half acre treed lot that we live in for thirty years , to an uptown urban loft with a terrace. Talk about a change! But we haven't looked back!!! We both were ready for less work both in and outside the our home. Our tastes had changed from the time we built our home in '87, to a more clean line simpler design. We found our condo that had been converted from an old distillery to a modern high ceiling, floor to ceiling windows ( we lived in complete the shade at our home) Our terrace is 1000 sq ft but it's been filled with comfortable furniture and gas fireplace and trees and many kinds of plants that l couldn't have at our home because of the shade from the 80 ft heritage trees. We spend more time traveling visiting friends and treating our daughter, son in law and our darling 17month old granddaughter to Maui last February. We have made the right choice for ourselves, even though our neighbors thought we would have regrets, we have had none. Great channel!!!!
Linda, just listening to your soothing voice takes me away from the worries of the day and allows me to relax. I’m really enjoying the transformation of your darling home.
I think you might be wise to put in a utility sink and cupboard in your laundry room. So handy for hand washing and an excellent spot to soak things etc. Just a suggestion. Your new home is wonderful 🎉❤

Hi Linda, so good to see you back! Hope that you are recouping from the busy last few weeks! As much as we like change, at times it becomes a little much! We have all been with you and hubby and are enjoying the new adventure!
So happy to see this video come on tonight! Having a cup of tea and watching your lovely home come together. It's already wonderful...love the colors in the art work and how you're bringing it all in w/ the fabrics, etc.
Your old house may have someone different on the title now, but your aura will always be there. The property won't ever forget you.
Dear Linda, I know that all of your viewers are SO happy that YOU are SO happy!! Happiness for sure is contagious! Your new home sweet home is a dream come true. I'm counting the minutes to see your new landscape designs! 👏👏👏 Linda in Houston
Hola cómo están Linda y Stuar, siempre veo vuestro videos que me encantan. Soy de Uruguay Amércia del Sur
In your laundry room the washer & dryer should be stackable .😮 Then you can put a cabinet with shelving & hanging area!😊
Hey Linda, obviously you can call your rooms whatever you want to call them😀, but parlors were a thing of the past as Victorian architecture gave way to 20th century styles. In a true Victorian home, there were two parlors -- the front parlor and the back parlor. The former as a place that held the best of everything, that showed the erudition of the owner, the back was the family room -- holding less-expensive items for the family to use. The front parlor gave way to the living room, while the back the den. Love, love, love your home!!

Love this information. Thank you!
Linda, I sent you some information from EBay for the two items you found in your attic. I saw that mid century vanity bench for over $200.! And the peanut butter jar from $6. to $12! Great finds Linda 😊❤
OMG that Cherry Cordial bottle brought back so many childhood memories of an old bottle of BOLS liquor that we had that had a ballerina inside that danced to music. I would certainly contact Claus Dalby to ask him about that bottle. Love all of the finds and can't wait to see what else you uncover. Glad you and hubs are enjoying the house.
Have you posted a video of the person who bought your home? I don't want to miss it. I am looking forward to seeing everything you do with the new home and garden.
Your new rug looks great with your lamps and yes that is a vanity seat.
Love the blinds! At some point I want some for my windows.
Like other viewers, I’ve been checking daily to see updates❣️I can’t wait to see what you’re going to do in the gardens. It will be difficult - impossible to outdo the previous gardens ❤ so fun to see your home . . . I have those bar stools, those Roman shades, those seagrass rugs. Can’t wait to see what else you do!
Thank you for your video today, I have been looking everyday for one of your postings. I did realize you have been busy, but just couldn't wait on any update. All of the art work look wonderful!! I love all of the color and the placement of the art so far. Can't wait for the yard plans!! Very nice!!!
BATHTUB - Hi Linda. My last house had a really deep tub, like yours, and yes it was hard to fill with hot water. My issue was not the faucet, but the fact that the water tank was too small for the capacity of the tub. Before changing out your tub facuet, you may want to look at either increasing the temp of your hot water tank, or getting a dedicated tank for the tub, which is what I had to do. LAUNDRY ROOM - not sure where that door leads to? but if it's outside your laundry room might make a great mud room. You could stack your washer and dryer and have a cloest installed beside them, rather than having cabinets above W/D. Congrats on getting settled and having some trees planted too.... all so exciting for you and Jamie, and us - your fans!
Yes, it is a vanity seat, that did have a cushion. My first thought is that the cushion was covered in a solid, bright, colored silk like fabric.
So great to see this update. I know that you are very busy but I have been checking every day for updates. Love your artwork & yes I think that is a vanity bench also. A cushion on it will look lovely. Thanks so much, relax and enjoy this nesting time.
Great finds from the attic, especially the bench. Certainly looks like a vanity seat. Reminds of the seats depicted in ancient Greek vases. Artwork in the laundry room great idea. The Monument Valley painting in the dining area is a great focal point and really warms up the room.
Love all the brightly colored artwork on your white walls. Would love to know what key words you used when searching EBay for your rugs. ❤
Thanks for the tour! What a great journey you have started. It is so interesting how you place your things from the old house, and make them all new again in this house!
I really like how the parlor is turning out. I would love sitting in there and knitting or reading and visiting with a friend.

I love your pictures. The one in the dining area looks 3D! Stunning!!! Thank you for sharing your wonderful vintage finds in the attic. So fun!
When I retired and bought a home half the size I had to get rid of half of my furniture and dishes and most of my nick nacs. It felt so good . I have boxes of art work but have no room to hang them. It's so much harder to move when your older that's for sure. I also had to leave all my flower gardens I put in. I miss that the most. I had to put all new beds all around new home . There were no plants here. Like you I luv flower gardens. I luv your new home and it's exciting putting new beds in - can't wait to watch you. ❤️😘
You have accomplished so much in a short period of time! Thank you for sharing the update! I display some old Valentines and postcards in my holiday decor. I use old metal flower frogs to hold them up.
Hi Linda! Ahhhhh....such a nice tour. It's great to see the beginnings of your new home...love it! We are experiencing the coldest days of our winter here too! And we haven't had much snow...strange time!
Definitely vanity stool…..love it.
definitely a boudoir seat. i have one just like it.
The colorful artwork really pops off those white walls. Love it❤❤❤
I love how the Parlor is coming together and also all of your pictures. Oh and also the red that is showing up!😊😊
Hi Linda…just received your book and enjoying it so much.I am so enjoying watching you put your new home together and anxious to see your garden come to life..
Lovely to see the settling in process. Thanks for sharing it with us. No-one would judge you for the fact that some places are still a little chaotic, its very early days. It's going to be a beautiful home. It already is.
PS: LOVE LOVE LOVE today's episode! One comment: that gorgeous painting in the kitchen over the banquet -- fair warning, from experience, it's hanging a bit low in the event someone leans back while seated that could result in it dislodging and falling. Consider enough pillows to prevent them from leaning back and contacting the painting. LOVING the way you are creating your signature on your new home!
Love seeing things coming together! Beautiful
So nice seeing you again Linda . You’ve had your first bath , so does existing blind keep you safe from people walking by ?
Hi Linda! Love your new home and how it's coming together!! About the candles, I'm sure it might have been mentioned in the comments (they are so many so couldn't go through all of them!) - these are candles used in orthodox churches. When you walk into a typical greek church for example (I'm Greek), there are some huge, tall stands next to the doors where they stack them up and have a slot in the middle for the coins. You buy a few and then light them up in a table covered in a sort of sand pit, adorned with pictures etc. and stick them in the sand. If the cup came with the same purchase, it's very likely a communion cup! Is there a greek orthodox church nearby? How interesting! Anyway, love the parlour, as well as the old nursery photos! Take care!
So fun to see your ideas. I love your use of red colors. I love red too. Take your time. Looking forward to seeing your new garden this spring and summer.
I’m so happy to see that you’re getting rid of the red steps in front. It was not the right shade so close to the bricks. Isn’t it wonderful that the people who remodeled the house neglected the attic. What a joy to find all those wonderful things. The bench was an especially great find….and the music box bottle….great piece to hold a candle (perhaps on the parlor mantle). I hope there are more treasures to be uncovered up there. I never would’ve thought you’d have an attic adventure in a remodeled home. Oh joy! 😊💖🦋🕊
It was so good to see your update on the new home! You are such an inspiration and I look forward to seeing the gardens come alive! 😊
Love your office and bulletin board. I just have a suggestion. Since I was a pre-school teacher, I had bulletin boards I had to cover in my classroom. I saw your cork on the board and thought how beautiful it would be with a piece of material covering it. It could be a floral, patterned or neutral. And it can be changed by season or by holiday. You can still use pins. Just an idea. Happy decorating and God bless.

Hi Linda 😊 thank you for inviting us in. Take your time and little by little you’ll get there. I love coming along.
Linda I do remember peter pan peanut butter in the old jar.... also I am so glad you found wonderful treasures in the attic of your new house... when I bought my house there was a horse barn in the backyard that had been transformed into a garage for a car but it was really too small.... I found a license plate from 1941 and a horse shoe which is actually a pony shoe... finding treasures is so much fun and the bench vanity bench that you found is just beautiful and I bet it has been in that house for a long time.. glad to see you making progress don’t get into big hurry it’s an adventure🎶🎵💙🏘
