I love the chairs as they are, they already go with the black railing, your front door and mailbox. But, honestly I wouldn’t make a decision on them until you get the flagstone patio laid and the boxwoods planted and the window box planted. One step at a time. It’s all going to be beautiful

I love the idea of the patios and I’m sure the landscape plans are on paper before you do anything so if you love it go for it! You’ve done enough design to know what you like and it always is thoughtfully done! Enjoying the travel in your yard from situation to situation. I’ve learned so much and wish I had more time in my life to do something similar in my yard.

Glad you addressed all the issues of your evolving front patio gathering space to quell the concerns people apparently got so worked up about. I love that you WANT to feel connected to your neighborhood. My sister has a Tudor brick home in Stockton, CA and they also set up a patio set on their small front landing in order to also be able to visit with neighbors and passersby. They got to know so many people. Linda, I think you are a great role model in terms of inviting followers to perhaps think a little differently, Love everything you are designing, inside and outside. And, I love Eva Cassidy.

Our neighbors added a small deck in front of their house several years ago, and I love it! It was so nice to walk down to the mailbox and see that D & J were sitting out on their front deck and wander up to chat for a while. D died in September, and J has had to move to memory care, so the house is empty now. I hope that whoever buys it will sit out on their front deck, and I wish our house lent itself to a deck or patio in the front, but we have a bit too much of a slope. I think your seating area will be delightful!

I love the front patio idea. My comment on the color of the chairs is to paint the wooden chairs the same color as the metal chairs which would make the patio appear as an extension of the front porch. I like the graphite gray, but you do you Linda. I’m sure whatever you decide will be beautiful.

Keep them black, they make a gorgeous statement and will look amazing tucked into you're garden. They match the roof, shutters, some of you're planters , window box that will be installed, you're railings and front door and will add some weight to that side of the house. Just think of the greenery and colour that will surround it all. Perfect 🥰

I have a front yard patio and the love it. My husband and others thought it was a crazy idea but I had some extra bricks from another project and decided to do it. My back yard gets very hot on our patio in the summer during the afternoon and on my new patio in the front yard it is so nice and cool. It is located underneath some pine trees. I also have some black metal lawn furniture. I love your black patio furniture and would definitely have a umbrella. Like you said, the garden will soften everything when it’s in full bloom. I am sure it will be beautiful…

This weekend we had an 80th birthday party for my mom and I put together flower arrangements. The Shoprite by me has beautiful flowers. I used a large pitcher, a smaller pitcher, and a three piece set of small individual vases. All vessels were white and filled with shades of chartreuse, fushia pinks/light pinks, white, and dark purple. Some of what I used were hydrangeas, snapdragons, and mums. They are so beautiful and springy! These are some of my favorites I've ever done.

I was thinking the patio should be enlarged the width of one of the chairs for folks to walk around the chairs, moving from the front yard to the side and down your side steps. Not everyone scooches easily. :) Everything looks wonderful. Love the gallery wall. This is very exciting.

Love the updates! I would spray the chairs grey, but I also think when you’re surrounded by a collection of things you love, it all works! Wondering if you would also consider cushions to cool the chairs on a hot day. I love that you’re sitting in the front - similar to “stoop culture” in Brooklyn and other cities where neighbors enjoy sitting on their front steps to watch the neighborhood go by and to really be a part of the action. Interesting that you mentioned the roller cart and that use of the front closet was exactly what I was thinking- even to start seeds because it’s so sunny in there. Lastly (I could virtually brain storm with you all day!) wondered if you were to build out the back yard to a larger landing, you could transport food for outdoor dining more easily if you were to roll it out from the kitchen….

Hi Linda, I’d keep your chairs dark/black because, once the plants are in and begin to fill out, black recedes into the background and allows the plants to shine. Grey might create too much of a contrast. Even though I have a White House, I painted my pergola on my back deck a charcoal colour so that all my hanging baskets and surrounding trees (which have 4 season interest) are the clear stars.

I absolutely LOVE the idea of a patio in the front! As a child, many of the homes in our neighborhood had front yard patios, or very large front porches. My mother and her friends all had a similar flag they all made. In the morning if someone put out their flag, it meant the coffee pot was on and anyone wanting a cup and some coffee talk was welcome to come over. I also like the umbrella, one can take down or put up as one desires. A pergola one is stuck, no changes. But what ever you decide I am sure will be beautiful. Exciting to see what you are doing and learning about your choices.

Linda, so exciting, I favor the black. It’s classic 😊. Just make sure to leave enough room to get around the chairs and the table. I’m sure you will. It just looks tight from the video.

I love those chairs. The black is great, but I think if you decide to go with the greyish, they would look just as good. I am amazed at how quickly you have made your home feel so cozy and lived in. It is so welcoming and feels like it's been curated over years. Well done Linda 👌

Linda. I love your small front patio idea. In my previous home( before we too downsized 4 years ago) I created a similar idea, because we also lived in the ultimate walking neighborhood. It turned out to be a fantastic meeting place and the center of many neighborhood “happenings”. Sometimes we would come home and someone would be taking a break from their stroll under the tree where the patio was situated.

Yes to the graphite grey chairs. Where I live (central Texas)...especially during the early pandemic period...people were stealing garden plants/decor from front yards...so...placing things in our front yard is very questionable.

I love the idea of the front flagstone patio area. Someone mentioned that you put in a pergola, bad idea because it would block the beautiful front of house

I also love the chairs as they are, black, but what about painting them "Charleston Green" which is a very dark green, and therefore blend into the garden a little more. I have that green on my wooden chairs and swing, on a covered porch, and black on all my wrought iron. And I for one, LOVE your front yard patio, and all the socializing that will go on out there. And just have to say, that porch and the pots is just perfect, and very Linda! The gallery wall is absolutely gorgeous. And I also don't watch TV until night, so its perfect. All have a great day!

Go with the gray! It will definitely soften the looks and will be less imposing. And perhaps a soft gray umbrella also. The gray will complement your various shades of greenery.

I think having a front yard patio to engage with your neighborhood is great. Especially since you don't have a porch. I think people can't visualize how it will be a garden room. They will. The umbrella is sorely needed for shade. I vote for keeping the chairs black. They match your windows and wrought iron. They look more comfy than the wooden ones. The wooden ones are totally appropriate for a cottage stoop. I think you make very good design decisions. You do you! The peanut gallery (me included) doesn't really get a vote. It is really fun watching you develop your blank slate and you are being very gracious about all of our opinions.

I have a front yard sitting area. I love it. It's my spot every afternoon/evening in the warm weather. I can watch my son playing in the neighborhood, wave and talk to the neighbors, etc. I prefer it over sitting in the backyard any day!

Just go for the lovely front patio, Linda! We originally thought our deck facing the lake would be THE place to sit in the evening, a perfect place for grilling and cooking. Enter the WIND from the south, then the GUSTS from the west, and the absolute wind TERRORS from the north! After living here a month, we realized the 'sweet spot for sitting' was the entry of the house. More protected and just right for moving our grill from the garage to the garage overhang. No way we could grill on the lake-facing deck! Thank goodness, we decided on a decorative garage overhang with lovely cedar posts. Turns out that was a very good idea. After cooking, the grill goes back in the garage. Easy Peasy! Our house sits on a point, so we actually enjoy ANOTHER beautiful lake view from our entry, the FRONT of the house. We can actually see a wonderful lake view from our kitchen window as well. Plus, we can watch the deer in the evening as they trek through our neighborhood looking for treasures like our pansies! Also, our neighbors frequently drive by on golf carts and drop in for visits! We put two lightweight wicker chairs on our generous entry porch, and we often move them out to our large sidewalk/driveway to catch a fabulous just-right-southern breeze off the lake. Once you live somewhere for a while, you figure out what works! Enjoy that front yard garden, umbrella and all! Everyone must create his/her own space!

It gets my brain humming with creative juices for my own spaces. Also the black wrought iron is charming and an ever embracing canvas to showcase all your treasures in lovely elegance.
