As a 3rd year History student... Jade THANK YOU!!!! It is so important that history is discussed and challenged and explored from the versions which we are selectively educated on. If you do anything today, look up any country in the world, pick a year, person, event etc. and do some research on the different historical perspectives on that topic. Challenge your own education!

hi jade! idk if you already notice but korea have so many study cafes / room (due to very competitive nature of student there) so most of the time students / people who study for uni / civil service exam / suneung 수능 (college entrance exam) etc, will spend so many hours in these type of cafes / room, if i'm not mistaken it's called 독서실 (direct translation : reading room) it used to looks like cubicles and very quiet space, but rn so many types of 독서실 including study cafes. these was quite new to me, when i was in korea bcs these type of room really designated for study after school hours and they have unique features too! sometimes in 독서실 we could rent the cubicle by day / month and some students actually forbid themselves to use their phone and temporary give it to the 독서실 staff until the done with their study of the day and etc! well it's just a little bit TMI from me tho, your video is great like usual, jade!

When I came to the UK I was genuinely shocked that you didn't learn more about your own colonization history at school, especially because it was such a huge reason for why the WW1 happened in the first place (and the UK seems to be obsessed with that). In Norway we learned about colonization from the UK, Germany and France (mostly) for almost a month in high school, and we didn't even have anything to do with it.

I feel like all history courses for the different countries are made to make that country look as good as possible. Japan doesn’t learn about comfort women, I don’t think America learns about the genocide of the native Americans. Don’t forget, these history courses are ultimately decided on by the government, and to maintain nationalism and perception of course they wouldn’t want their children looking at them in a bad light. It’s sad, but logical.

I decided to focus on the British Empire for my 2nd year A-Level History coursework. You can learn about it in school but the content will be mandated by the goverment. I used sources like Niall Ferguson's book on the empire which offered a different viewpoint to a textbook. My point is you have to seek it out but the information is there if you look.

Hi Jade! I'm from Spain and as you may know, just like the UK, Spain has a lot of colonial history. We cover the issue in secondary education but just like a thing that happened and that made Spain "gain power" but we rarely see what effects the colonization had in the countries Spain invaded. It is something that should be addressed because some of the nationalistic ideologies see that period as a glorious one and not the massacre it was. It is very important and I think you are doing so good at pointing it out. These videos give me the nicest vibes btw!! love

your monologue about history and how's been taught to us was very powerful. I just understood that this problem is international which is depressing. I'm from Russia and I'm finishing highschool in two month so our history lessons are mainly focused on Russia in 20th century and the amount of blunt lies that we're being told is shocking. our country still has an enormous Stalin cult which is so so sooo sad and a lot of people still don't know the truth about him and the soviet government in general just because they've been taught differently. so yeah, thank you for this video!!

My family is from Russia too and Ukraine . I live in Scotland now but oh my god, the way history is taught in schools in Ukraine is SHOCKING!! Children are taught that Stepan Bandera is a hero for Ukraine. He should never be considered a hero. He aligned with the Nazis, collaborated in the Holocaust and murdered 70,000 Jews and 100,000 ethnic Poles on his own command. I’ve seen LOADS of Ukrainians now turn to Nazism and turn into horrific anti-semites and Russophobes. They all tell me that I should die bc I speak Russian and I have family from Russia. It really is frightening to see children praise people - in SCHOOLS - somebody who organised the killing of hundreds of thousands of innocent people. The Ukrainian government banned books bc they talked about the atrocities Ukraine committed during the Second World War, and supposedly it’s a democracy!! It’s crazy how countries hide away from their past and choose not to properly address their history. Because, in the end, every country has done something bad and horrible, and we have grown from that and are still growing, and yet if we want to stop future atrocities like those in history we HAVE to learn about them and the effect they had in history and today.

For me, sometimes that window swings open and the rain comes crashing directly into me, but sometimes it's just a distant pitter patter. Jade, you would LOVE the Ted Talk, "The Danger of a Single Story" by Chimamanda Adichie (Author of Purple Hibiscus and others) it is extremely insightful and beautifully hits on similar points you made regarding history.

The first minute of your video made me cry, I haven’t seen my family and friends for over 15 months due to corona, and I’m feeling so homesick. 💔

Mannnn this video makes me so nostalgic. I visited South Korea in 2019 and I've wanted to go back ever since to spend at least a month in Seoul and Gyeongju and other places. Jade if you have the time (and if it is possible within covid regulations) I definitely recommend visiting Gyeongju, it is the historical capital of South Korea and it is so beautiful! I also want to wish you a very happy birthday filled with joy and good health!! Love from Amsterdam

I really enjoyed the party which you were explaining about the policies and basically the gist of what you are studying cause it was so educating and I really recommend to dedicate a part of your channel to this kinda topics cause it will help inform many people in really simple easy way due to many of your viewers are young and uniformed about this subjects. I know it will take time but the effect would worth it I guess. ily
