I eat 3lbs+ of meat daily, and can get away with around $50-$60 a week feeding myself mostly chicken, brown rice and some veggies. Chicken is $1.99/lbs in my area. The average guy won't need more than 1lbs of meat daily, but I'm 250lbs, so surely $400 a month for a family of 4 is more than reasonable. 2 small kids won't eat much.

  • @bospivey8017

The meat alone at 3+ lbs a day is over $42 just in the meat per week. So the veggies and rice and other various things you consume only cost ~$8? Not bad I guess. But $400 a month for a family of 4 is pretty hard. I'm in the situation right now and put in about 3500 calories a day, so that probably doesn't help, but still.

You'd just have to get a couple freezers to hold it all. I don't think moving them around will be an issue in your household!

@Martin Luther the better benefit of doing that would be getting cows he knows, and having the farmer raise them on specific grains or whatever Shaw prefers, which farmers often will do if you list it. In that way, the cost could become less savings, but then Shaw would know exactly what goes into his meat and can have a more particular diet depending on the training season. The epitome/height of that I think is wagyu beef in Japan/Australia, in which the animals not only lead pretty much stress free lives, but you know the historical background of the animal and what they eat to the point you get a radically different tasting animal. That's definitely too far in costs for Shaw to do regularly, but you get the point of how a relationship with a farmer can lead to just flat out better/healthier meat; felt the need to bring up because everyones worried on cost and less on benefits.

If you count out the bones, skeleton, most of the fat, the skin, and all the inedible parts on a cow, Brian eats roughly 2 cows worth of meat a year. Brian has also said that when he is preparing for WSM or any other contest, he tries to eat more than he regularly does, so that number might actually be higher than 1000 KG. That's actually incredible.

22kg of rice, for my job we sometimes have to carry concrete slabs up ladders to roofs for satellite mounts. They're about 25kg, he picked that rice up like it was nothing haha. And that's one expensive food trip! But spending money to make money (as is part of their job)
