Cost of Rent and Utilities in Portugal - See What I pay
🇵🇹💰Some of you have been curious about what I pay for my rental in Northern Portugal. It’s easy enough to go on the old interweb and look up cost of living statistics, but sometimes it’s nice to know in reality what people are paying and for what. So in this video I answer the question and break down my monthly rent and utility expenses. I also share examples of of what others are paying, giving you an insight into the cost of living here.
I hope it helps and you find it useful.

@@kathyhirsch379 In Portugal you can find less expensive living. You give up convenience. You will live in smaller towns. Further out from major hubs. Further from larger hospitals. The pace would be slower, but if you can cope with the country living, you can live lots cheaper.
Hello! I have been out of pocket for a bit. Thank you so much for all the info - you are an angel - the dogs are very lucky to have you in their lives. ❤❤
Im not even a pet person generally but dogs seem to like me and i can see your 2 dogs are greatly loved. Nice one 👍🏿 👍🏿 👍🏿
I am in Vila Franca da Beira, near Oliveira do Hospital. I have a lovely little T1 stone cottage with a garden, courtyard, patio and outbuilding for wood. It has been modernized inside and has a dishwasher and washing machine. I love it! I pay €550 per month including electric and water. No gas required. While I do have air conditioners in each room, I primarily heat with wood, which is very inexpensive and my landlord fills it up for €20 when I run out (but it's not a ton). Someday I would like to buy a little quinta with a hectare or so of land. Prices are crazy, though. I hope that someday I will find just the right place at the right price in the north of Portugal. In the meantime, I am content.

I pay €550 for a 3 bedroom apartment in a very good neighborhood in Lisbon. The apartments around me are €2000 upwards. Absolutely ridiculous. My apartment was through word of mouth, I've never used an agency in the decade that I have been living in Lisbon.

Looks like we need another reading done to see if anything is going to pop up in the future! Where did they go? Nice to see the boys are settled :) Have you sorted out what your ideal type of property and area? I don't mind spending hours on idealista and other site and you could try offering 50% of asking fee - you never know someone could snap up a cheeky offer especially if they have been hanging on waiting for some "rich" foreigner for years on the advice of their agent haha

Hi Louise thanks you for the numbers, very usefull💐💐You are so right, its depressing to see the prices on Idealista going up every month... Not only for foreigners, the young Portuguese are emigrating by larg numbers because they cant't afford to pay the rent; keep in mind that the income of the average Portugees is like half of our income! I am planning to buy my own property in Portugal and I am going to try and do it by word of mouth, forget the Idealistas and pay a fair price directly to the owners...

Thank you for sharing, very interesting info! What a lovely story for settling down to rescue your pups, much luck with them! Sounds like looking thru agents or via property sites lend itself to much higher rents mainly for foreigners in general... For those of you who found much better rents by word of mouth, I wonder what you would recommend for those of us completely new to Portugal, who do not have a local network yet, how to find these more reasonable rental options? Does your word of mouth include FB groups? or just friends? Would love any suggestions!

I live near Oliveira! We bought our quinta in 2008 for €25000. Our home is an off grid, renovated donkey stable, own wood, own water, solar electric. 3 gas bottles a year. Originally from UK , I've been here since 2015 full time.
I have been looking for a house for rent in Portugal, for me, my small dog and 3 cats. I could not find anything for a decent price, passed the spanish border and asked in the only bar of the first village I saw if there was a house for rent. And yes : I rent a tiny old house in the village, with patio for my animals, 165€, plus electricity and water. The house has good energy, nice surroundings for walks, but horrible mentality. As for now I stay here because of the low rent, but I would prefer going back to Portugal, in the region of Fundão.
