There's no shortage of videos detailing the insurance companies willing to sell you a policy for just about any coverage you desire. However, what I do not see covered by Thai vloggers is discussing their experience with a claim. The value of an insurance company is not in the price of their policy, but rather the insured's experience trying to file a claim once disaster strikes.

I have an inpatient policy with AIA insurance. Recently I was hospitalised for a week with DVT and pulmonary embolism. The hospital wanted 50k THB upfront before they would admit me. I paid. The total bill in the end for was about 80k THB. AIA paid and my 50K was refunded by the hospital. I purchased the policy through an agent and she was very proactive in whole process. Even to the point of visiting me during during admission and discharge.

2005 my 5 day bill 100k Didn't ask for a dime No insurance Paid with my visa card Never been asked to pay first
I remember watching loads of these types of videos before I came to Thailand. They are useful to give you a ballpark figure but nothing is like actually being here. Additional expenses I didn't foresee, I hated an Airbnb I stayed at so cut that booking short moved to a more expensive Airbnb. Domestic flight fare to Chiang Mai rocketed up as it was the lantern festival, I needed to be in Chiang Mai for registration for my language course, hotel costs went up and was harder to book during that time. Rained when I went to Koh Samui in December so I stocked up on food from 7/11 as Grab kept cancelling my food orders. All expenses for a Thai Driving License (Medical certificate, Residency Certificate, photocopies of passport pages, passport pictures, transport to doctors, Immigration + driving class etc). I bought new clothes when I got here as I never wore shorts and tank tops in London (just not my style but very necessary here). Ongoing medication I need, I could only bring 3 months supply from the UK, thanks to the NHS that 1 prescription of 3 months worth of daily medication cost me 9 English Pounds.

Thanks for a great video. I'm moving with my family to Chiang Mai in July (currently living in Laos) and the Thailand Property site is great as it saves having to go through each real estate site one-by-one.

I live in AZ, my lowest energy bill was around $174 for the month and that was in Dec. when the AC never kicks on. My highest was nearly $600, I'd happily pay $143 a month.

With air con turned on every night and my condo room is 30sqm (but its floorplan is so great it looks wide with 1 br and even a jacuzzi in the bathroom, not shower only!), my electricity bill is 30US a month!

I just love this Chanel. I may able to switch back to the original plan since the government made a U-turn and let people coming without restrictions.. Ps: you can own a house, but you can’t own the land. If you married a Thai , the partner own 51% and you as foreigner 49% The other option register a legal company. and again you can own 49% and the company owns 51%..

10:00 To emphasize what you said. We have TOPS and Villa Market close to our condo in Bangkok. If you buy American groceries in those stores they are significantly more expensive than they are in the US. Big C is kind of a compromise store. American "type" groceries. Cheaper than Villa but still more expensive that the Thai markets.

That electric is not bad. I live in Midwest US and in the summer, my electric bill shoots up to around $250 or $300 and that’s with me trying NOT to keep A/C on all the time
Regarding elec, do you do a lot of (elec) cooking/kettle? That would be heavy draw on elec. Good breakdown thanks
