Thank you so much for making this video. My partner and I have recently decided to set our eyes on ireland. We live in Arizona USA, and the property values here are outrageous, and they won't stop. We are paying the average price for a 2 bedroom Phoenix apartment, which is 2000 USD. No Healthcare, because the cheapest plan would be 250 a month. Electricity is usually 50-120 a month, and there is no hope in buying a house, considering the median Arizona home is 390k. The school systems are trash, so raising a family would be horrendous. Also, surprisingly our minimum wage is 12 dollars, which is the highest of any red state. So basically, if we were to live in dublin, the most expensive city, we'd be paying more in taxes, but less in everything else. I've always thought about moving away from the US, but never made a plan. Im tired of America. I thought things would get better, but it's apparent that things are just getting worse. The nation's more divided than ever with no intentions of slowing. Prices are higher year over year, while wages stay the same, and if you want to go to college, you have to either take out a personal loan, or a credit line because 2 jobs are necessary here, and you can't work 60 hours a week and go to school full time. It's just insane.

Yeah, over the last few weeks, it got me thinking about the kind of major cities (be that large, or midsize), from the costs of living, and quality of life/standards of living points of view, one could encounter in Europe, and the United States (it's a personal assessment/observation, but one that can, factually, be verified): there are cities with (both) very high costs of living, as well as very high quality of life/standards of living (like Copenhagen, or Geneva); cities with very high costs of living, but only decent standards of living (like Dublin, or New York); and, then, there are various cities throughout the United States with decent costs of living, but nowhere near to being great cities to live in (like Detroit, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, or Phoenix). If it's feasible for you, it's definitely worth it to make the move out of Phoenix; I, certainly, would (here's the irony, though: record numbers of Americans continue to move to cities like Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, and Phoenix; that's quite counterintuitive, to put it mildly).

Our country has the 3rd highest GDP/cap in the world and as a result we have become VERY expensive BUT we have many Indian/Thai/China shops that can really save you money. Your real problem will be RENT. If you have this covered than Ireland for you is gold.

The Northwest of Ireland is the most affordable where rents are concerned. Donegal, Roscommon, Leitrim, Mayo. I had to leave Tralee because of the high rents in Tralee.

Hope you don't mind me asking this, but did you have an upgrade in terms of your savings when you started working in Tralee compared to how much you were able to save back in the Philippines? I'm from the Philippines and I'm currently contemplating whether seeking opportunities abroad will help me save more in the long-run, or staying here (perhaps with a little side hustle) would already help me achieve that. I understand it costs much more to live in european countries like Ireland, but will there be considerable difference in how much I can save if I take a risk and pursue a career abroad? The medical system in Ireland sounds like that the Govt has colluded with lobbying vested interests and stakeholders in the insurance industry to arrange a captive insurance market of the entire population for the benefit of the for-profit medical industry. Except for young children and over-70s. So, you are basically hostages to private medicine. In the rest of Europe nearly all citizens have true universal healthcare for a free and efficient health service.

There's not a huge difference buying between 1 or 2 people, the base cost of certain items is the same. €75 for a weekly grocery shop would be pretty average buying brand names in the normal supermarkets. You could definitely be way more frugal and get a minimal weekly shop for 1 person for €30 in the discount supermarkets if you were very conservative with your money. That's really scrimping though.

I had my braces back in the Philippines. You can continue your braces here, although when I did, my orthodontist did an x-ray and requested my documents from the PH so they can continue it. :)

I’m in my 60’s now and I have to say that Ireland is a much more interesting and a more exciting place since people started moving here from all over the world. Yes we have lots more irish people in poverty, homeless and addicted to drugs, while we bring in Africans, Chinese, Polish and everyone else, give them an education, jobs, rights, houses, cars and bankrupt our welfare system while muslim mothers and black Africans have 20 kids each. Current Inflation is being driven up mostly by fuel prices, If we switch to Nuclear power and give greater incentives to buy electric cars (including subsidising and prioritising lithium battery production) this problem will subside substantially over time. Also, many countries are going for the practical short term measures of taxing fossil fuel company profits to discourage extortionate profiteering.. Overall though, Society’s rejection of Nuclear power was a massive mistake, and the environment has payed dearly for it as we continue to rely on fossil fuels for our electricity.

Is the grocery/food expenses you mentioned is for one person or two persons

Hi Jennifer, I will be relocating to Cork in October and I would like to know if a credit card will come in handy while living in Ireland. Some articles I’ve read says it’s impractical. If it is helpful, can you share how transition is? I heard it’s easy to open a bank account but will take months to become eligible to apply for a credit card. Thanks in advance.

It depends what you are going to use it for. There's a company called Klarna that lets you make payments on their partner stores for 3 months. There's also one that's called Humm which allows you to purchase items and pay for 1-3 years. It's quite easy to get some credit here in Ireland if you have a monthly stable income. Well, when it comes to the costs of living, Dublin is in the same league with cities like Copenhagen, Geneva, or New York (and the main reasons that the costs of living in these cities stand out as "astronomical", are supply-side economics, and their status as World-class cities; conversely, there are reasons that the costs of living in the town & country of Denmark, Switzerland, Ireland, or the United States are significantly lower).

Very good video! Just one comment, the places you showed in daft in Dublin are more studio like than 1 bed, all kitchen and bed in the same room. The 1 bed, with separate room and kitchen are minimum of 1500

The cost of living here in my place is extremely expensive. There is No Tax but what you can see here couz for example: Rent can be anywhere between $1,300 and a whopping $3,300 per month, based on the apartment location and its features. Utilities and other monthly costs are also pretty expensive, including internet, and especially entertainment and eating out. Although food and essentials are relatively affordable, rental prices are typically exorbitant. Luckily, the Caymans’ average salaries are compatible with high prices, but sharing apartments with roommates is a common way of living for younger people here like me hahaha.

I got my apartment pre-covid. Also, the examples in this video were at the start of the pandemic so the effects are still not obvious. The prices now have gone so much higher! I'm making a video with an updated one :)

Hey Ellen! Congrats on landing the job 🥳 to be honest, it’s crazy expensive everywhere. I suggest you try these 2 things: 1. Check airbnb around cork and if you find something within budget, ask if they allow long term rentals. 2. Join FB groups (in Tralee, we have ‘Tralee Do You Know’), some people post available apartments there. Hope this helps!

Ireland is very very very expensive especially Dublin" there's a Housing crisis, accommodation is impossible To find health service is very poor unless you can afford private health care, energy costs Internet car insurance Drink n food is expensive, eating out cinema restaurants hotels you need lots of Euros, jobs are mostly low paid Unless you are lucky enough to get into high tech positions' outside of Dublin in Counties Waterford Kerry Wexford Limerick Clare Donegal Sligo prices are less, yet these Counties have very smaller Populations' if you are bringing up a small family in Ireland it's a very expensive its a challenge" if you are young And have good paying job its fine for now" its when you get ready go settle down as a family you find how difficult It's going to be, sure you get Goverment aid which is minimal as for owning a house you will wait for years and years

Your net salary will be around 2K (excluding any pension contribution). Medical is not free here, some companies have health care as part of your package.

There is one hospital in Dublin ( Saint Vincent hospital ) since August 2020 no history of death case in covid-19 patient, thousands of patient are healed in just 10days or 8days.. hope blogger or media personality will cover this and find out whats their secrets... if you have relatives or friends with covid-19 affected then its safe for them to bring on this hospital... goodluck and Godbless us all

Lord me there has been lots of deaths from covid in Vincent's hospital what are u talking about.ppl are not healed in 10 days there are lots if ppl in ICU in Vincent's with covid. Do your homework

There are six (6) big (really big) hospitals in different places right across the city of Dublin - St James’s Hospital, The Mater Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital, Beaumont Hospital, Blanchardstown Hospital and Tallaght Hospital. There are also two big hospitals dedicated only to children’s medicine and there are three more big hospitals in Dublin that only deal with maternity cases (where children are born). So I don’t know why you say there is “one hospital in Dublin”!!!

There’s a healthcare system that you pay into. Like every healthcare system they have some issues. Yes they have a public school system which is very good. It’s also a marginal tax rate meaning they were brackets that you pay different levels of taxes as you make more money. So she’s not paying 34% on her totality of her salary she doesn’t have this correct

Hey John, please check 3:26, I have the details of the marginal tax in there flashed in the video. Totally agree with you that there is a bracket and different portions of your income is taxed using a different %. 34% is the simplified % of my tax over my income. Hope that clears things up for you.

Hi if you are thinking of moving to Dingle it's the arse end of Ireland you will pay a least 100 euro a week just for shared accommodation and it's one of the most expensive towns in Ireland they ondley pay Mim wages and work is tourist dependant Ann Murphy Ireland

Oh no! But with the work from home set up for most companies, hopefully people start to move away from the city which will free up some space in Dublin and bring the costs down 🙂

I do admire a students opinion that's possibly in the Dublin for less than a year unfortunately we don't have rich parents well these young people or students don't know what's going on cos they've only stayed in the few months so they give opinion it's false
