    Well, I am not going to like this video - because if you keep telling people how nice Ocala is, it's gonna get more crowded and expensive and I'll never be able to afford to move there 🤨🤠 Just kidding. I think I would have already moved there except my son needs an area that's walkable & has a good transportation system. If there's one thing Florida isn't good for it's public transit! Was a good video.

    I hear you there! I think about that sometimes - how I could be attracting more people than we want 😆 Agree on the transit. Ocala does utilize Suntran and if you live within city limits it’s an option. The heathbrook area has “walkability” in a sense. And of course the surrounding downtown areas.

    Hi Steve, thanks for live streaming. I’m fascinated by this topic having a home in Miami and recently living here in Ocala. In my opinion Ocala is extremely much cheaper.

    Hey Steve, love the video. I have been hearing that there’s a lot more rental houses in the market due to people leaving because of Desantis’ law.. When you do the next market update, can you mention if that is accurate? I’m curious. Thank you!

    I can’t speak for every market, but rentals don’t seem to be increasing too much in Ocala. Hard to say how many people and their reasoning behind leaving until some sort of data is obtained, but I can see what you’re saying.

    Hi, can you address the property tax increase and home insurance increase from 2022 to 2024? My understanding is home insurance has gone up due to the hurricane / weather. Also, can you talk in the impact the Hurricane had on Ocala… what area and if people are leaving because of these two factors Hurricanes bigger than normal Increase in Home insurance. - Thank you - Good videos

  • @StevenBillington

    The increases are all of Florida, unfortunately. More hurricanes than "normal" causing more claims. Flooding insurance is very expensive and a lot don't have it. If you don't have to use a home loan (most do, of course), insurance isn't as much of an issue since you would not have certain requirements. Cost of construction has also gone up, which means you're required to have more coverage. Ocala is an inland city, so the impact here is about as good as you can get for FL...in my opinion. Flooding would be one of the main issues here when hurricanes come, which you can keep in mind when looking for property - avoiding areas prone to flooding.

    Hey Steve, this question isn't real estate related, BUT I'm moving from Wyoming to the Ocala area and am worried about my dogs/cats safety and health. Any advice for someone with pets in the Rocky Mountains moving to Florida? Very different environments!

    Hi Alex, thanks for you comment. I have never received or considered this question before! I’ve also had many clients move cross-country without considering this that have pets. Running this by your veterinarian is your best option! Great question. Sorry I couldn’t be more help.

    The 275-290 you mentioned for utilities would include electric, water and garbage? And what company do you use? (Curious from Miami, FL) 😂

  • @StevenBillington

    @StevenBillington

    For City of Ocala electric (where I am), it would include electric, water and garbage. Other electric companies outside of the “city” is only for electric, but their water is included in that because it would most likely be on a well and they wouldn’t have garage service unless they paid for one separately. My city bill (electric, water, garbage) runs 250 (winter) to 375 (summer).

    Ocala is getting worse and expensive. Also if you got a kid don't come here, nothing to do, and the schools are not good.

    So much to do including free things to do! Still a very reasonably priced location that's 1 hour from big cities and the beach - a happy medium, for my family at least. We accept the added traffic for the added benefits!
