Cost and process of treating bamboo.
Ойын-сауық
Come along and take a tour of a local bamboo treatment facility as we decide on our bahay kubo design and installation. Is it worth the expense???

My girlfriend’s great uncle built the fence around his property in the Philippines using stones that were on the property and built almost the entire house using trees that were on the property as well. Yes, almost an entire giant house built using wood in the Philippines. The first floor is concrete, but the 2nd and 3rd floors are mostly wood. So far the place has withstood storms for the past 15+ years.

Large operation, they do good work. Thanks for watching.
Very good video 👍 Thanks for sharing ! But way OVERPRICED ! We are in a developping country... and that house built with native jungle bamboo cost almost 100 thousand dollars ? Come on , man ! ...for a lifespan of supposedly 50 years ?...but probably much less ! And how does it fare during a tropical typhoon with that simple tin roof ? 🤔

All good points. Not my cup of tea. The 5m included land as well, so a bit better. Definitely expensive as our concrete home only cost $60k (house only).
very nice house video

Great video Greg and Wilma. Thank you for sharing this with us. In the USA, a master bedroom is now known as the owner’s suite (fyi). Take care.

I think treating the bamboo properly is the way to go. Thanks for watching.
Hi Greg & Wilma. These are the nicest bamboo homes I have seen in the Philippines 🇵🇭. As you know, the treatment is critical, otherwise the bamboo will rot after 5-6 years. I’m Canadian living in Japan for over 12 years. I’ve done various outdoor construction projects with bamboo (but untreated) and everything only lasted about 5-6 years. Will this company build smaller homes? I’m wanting to buy a tiny, bamboo home perhaps 300~400 square feet. Also, will they deliver anywhere in the PHs? Thanks! 😊

They have their own architect on site to design just about any structure you want. I'm not sure about shipping the bamboo off this Island though. I put their phone number and email address in the description box of the video. Shoot them an email or give them a buzz to ask those specific questions.

We are still negotiating with them. They will be designing one off of our dimensions we have then. We will go from there.
There well nice ❤️

Thanks Andrew. Treated bamboo is the way to go.
Those bamboo homes were really nice actually. Could be built cheaply as an in law suite or accessory dwelling for visitors.

Rule #1, don't make visitor room too nice. They will never leave.
That's really great. But it's more than twice the price what you can build a larger concrete home for.

Lol, as you can see no script.
Be interested to see the cost difference between the treated and non treated cubo . I believe the concrete walls are a light wt. fiber cement. Quite strong. The houses seem expensive, but a good compromise for going full native vs conventional block. Beautiful and appear high quality. The "average" block house here after 50 years won't look too good either. 😆

I'm interested in cost comparison as well. Will share once I know. After 50 years, it won't matter to me at all. Lol.
Put a 3m x 6m Kubo pool house near your driveway for the swimming pool example: changing area, bathroom and sitting area

That's the plan, just not that big.
Any info on thermal efficientcy? Cost for bamboo vs. hollow block? Lead time vs. hollow block? Really like the look. Could they make it with the exterior bamboo exposed and still be "air tight" to keep our the mosquitoes?

Whats the chemical they use as the treatment is it toxic. How long has it been on the market and how do they know it will last 50 years? There seem to be a few unknown's there.

Google Solignum. Very common product here in the Philippines. Used for many years here to reduce wood rot.

Thanks Gregg I think I'll be giving that a miss. I haven't had any success with Solignum on several projects. After 6 months the termites are back munching away at the wood.
@buildingthephilippines

They also had a tank of borax. The Solignum can't be just painted on with a brush. It needs to be submerged. If bamboo need to drill through to allow liquid to penetrate the inside of bamboo.
5 million pesos is about 88,000 dollars. Seems kinda expensive for a nipa style home….
